  • OK...First off, please be patient with my video. Of all the work I've done with this Camaro, I think this is the most complicated part. I couldn't find anything on line, so I'm literally taking this thing apart and have no idea what I'm doing. In the end, I finally figured it out, so please watch video first. In order to remove the top head cup of the steering column, DON'T jump into it and unscrew the three bolts in the blinker assembly. At the end of my video I show how it goes back together and you need to take it apart the same way. First get the wire harness lose from the column. Remove mounting bracket and plastic sleeve like I show and the clips that pin the wires down to the column. You need the wires to be able to feed up into the top of the column so you can pull the head section off. Once you got the wires lose, then remove the C clip at the top of the column that locks steering shaft to the bearing. Pull the shaft out. This will free up the top of the column cup that contains the top bearing and blinker assembly. The top assembly should now come off and wires should now be able to pull all the way out with the assembly. Hope this helps. I have a video of the assembly, but will have to wait until I upload more videos. Please post any questions. Thanks

Where did you find the top and bottom bearing parts?

The upper bearing is the original and the lower can be purchased from most restoration sites. Have not done any research on the upper, but I think after market bearings come with a new housing, can't just get there bearing.

I would first find out what GM part number they are. See if those parts used in other GM vehicles. Then can search for parts. May not be able just find the shaft, unless it's used. I think it only comes in a kit with other parts. Broaden your search too, don't just look for just the singular item. Looks for Rebuild kits to, May have to pay more and buy extra parts you don't need.

@@CamaroRestoration I actually found something frome the parts place the have a rebuilt one and you send yours the whole column and its like 100 bucks after you send in yours for a core charge I'm going to see if it's real or just some bs I've bought stuff from them before so I'm pretty confident fingers crossed and I was doing what you said and could only find a few things the bottom bushing and some springs

@Gesu_925 good, you got a start. Keep trucking. Ask around too. Even though a parts place doesn't have what you need, sometimes people are helpful, so chat them up and see if they know where to get parts.
