I acquired my Corsair just recently; a bit nervous about the maiden flight, I had one of the highly skilled 3D pilots at our club field maiden & trim it out for me, using the only 4S pack I had currently, with no issues. The only other batteries I had were 3S 2200’s, which it flew fine on with the pack pushed all the way forward up to the back of the firewall.
Biggest issue I had with mine was taking off & landing on my first flight on it due to relatively tall grass on the runway; unless I was REALLY careful with throttle & rudder management (opening the throttle VERY gradually), the grass would trip it up and cause it to flip upside down. 🙃 When I attempted my first landing with it, approaching the runway relatively steeply while using the landing flaps, it touched down gently on the main gear , but still snagged the grass enough to flip upside down again, this time cracking the tips of the rudder & vertical stabilizer (not severely, easily repaired back home).
When I tried it again this past weekend, the runway grass had been freshly cut; I had no problem either taking off or landing with it, although I used the takeoff flap setting for landing as well ( made for a shallower approach). All my flights this past weekend were done with the 3S packs; I had no problems with vertical or climb performance, and still plenty of speed. My Dad was a mechanic on the real ones in WW 2, so I want to keep this bird in nice shape!😊

Makes for an awesome display plane!

I got a calmato a while ago, with a 3S motor (thought it was made for 4S) and did some nice aerobatics with smoke! Had to dead stick land, luckily the esc didn’t burn 🔥

I recently bought a Volantex Phoenix which a 2s plane but people said they could fly on 3s. on the 2nd flight I had the same happen. Motor burnt out and ESC melted . I had done a static amp test which seemed ok but.... Anyway the plane survived and I put the motor and ESC in that I had always thought about. My old Parkzone Corsair was a much loved and battered flyer. For years I had an upgraded motor in it which had a tendency to spoil low C batteries. One day while accelerating along the strip the prop and motor pulled themself clean off the front of the plane and the Corsair smashed into the ground, sadly missed 😢

Sorry to hear about the unrepairable Corsair, indeed a great airplane!!
My take after my last flight is, that escs and motors of those „relatively cheap“ RC planes should better not be tested to their limits… or rather upgraded with better components.
