The boy mom, girl dad thing gets cringy when the parent wants to be obsessive with it. Like a mom being soooo obsessed with their boy to the point that they scare off girls when he is older. Like if he mom is above everyone else. That’s when is toxic.
Karina hit the nail on the head. I heard a Pastor speaking about the roles of men and women (specifically Mexico because that’s where he was) and he said the reason most women in Mexico are so toxic towards their son’s is because THE HUSBANDS aren’t stepping up into their role and this is why the women are so obsessed with their son’s and it’s so true.
Karina be very cautious with the cats around the baby when he/she comes home .

Thank you for talking about toxic mothers, I went no contact with my mom and it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.I’ve gotten judged so much for it, my sister is also no contact. My mom just has no respect towards nobody. After having my kids I realized so many things.the things she would tell me and do around me as a child I could never be like her. I have sooo much I wish I could say towards pple that judge but they don’t know what it’s like to grow up with a toxic mom, and that’s actually a good thing ! Good thing they don’t know ! And they have an amazing relationship with theirs
I must agree with you! I learned after I moved away for college. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to move out and see who she truly is. I don’t see her much, but have minimal contact with her because she can be toxic.
Yes girl preach! I have also gotten judged for having minimal contact and I even think twice about it, but then some BS comes out of her mouth and then I remember why I DONT have a true relationship with her and distance myself again.

Girl yess I completely get your situation. They live in the old days, like update yourself this is no longer your times! Like be more lovable, supportive, open minded, and understanding!! I don’t get why it is so hard for some mother’s to be better and listen more to us, and not judge! It’s their way or no way. 😏 is why I also keep away from mine now that I moved out and live with my fiance (whom she dislikes 😂)

Karina completely shut Mayra down with good reason. Despite the gender of what you have , there will always be a connection with your child. The gender does not matter. Cheers to Karina for having the right mindset, empowering girl moms, and embracing whatever god has planned. As Latinas we constantly face machismo, gender roles and continue the cycle of “boys are attached to moms more blah blah blah “. How about we wish for healthy babies opposed to boy babies. Each child is a gift, and there will be a connection. I have so much more respect for Karina for being so woke and righteous! Mayra, take notes #period

I own a cat and yes it’s true. My whole pregnancy I didn’t clean out the litter and if necessary it’s suggested to use gloves. Don’t know about staying away from cats completely but definitely avoid the litter box.

Ms Karina girl just make sure you are not cleaning the cat litter while pregnant, there is a chance of getting toxoplasmosis which is more prevalent in pregnant women

On the cat issue, it's upsetting how your brother just brought the cat and didn't even ask if it's ok nor he took care of them. Sorry Karina but it's your house and they need to respect cause it's not just your house it is also Raul's since he's your husband. I know you love your family but your health and tranquillity come first and God forbid you get sick from the cats cause you will resent your family or wish you would have done something about it but sometimes it will be too late.
Probably not, but sometimes I get the feeling your siblings that live with you take advantage of you giving them a home. A really nice home. They need to earn all that luxury and pick up their weight.

Btw I think Mayra will support you cause I can tell she was upset at the situation your siblings have put you in.
I think the problem also is that Karina doesn't view the house as HER house she views it as the family house. Which is fine coz she did say she bought a big house so it could fit all her family. I'm sure that's why her siblings are comfortable doing whatever that they want, they view it as them just being home.
But its still sad that she has to tiptop around them sometimes or make sacrifices that she doesn't have to because of all the people who live there. It's clear it frustrates her alot but she feels she can't speak up coz again, she feels it's their home just as much as it is Hers.

I would think her siblings would be more considerate after she got married cause now there is another person, Raul, who is not their brother and it's his house too. She's in a hard position for sure. On a separate but similar note, I hope her siblings don't bring to live their significant other unless there is a serious discussion. And possibility actually married, not a girlfriend or boyfriend.
Fyi...for some reason I feel this wouldn't apply to when Mayra lived there cause she is responsible and has a stable marraige. Plus their bond is just different.

My mom is always in competition with me. I felt this, my mom always compares herself to me. From weight, to clothes, to even work. Like mom, you should be empowering me not brining me down constantly.
as a person that has issues with their mother, every single thing that karina said is so real and makes so much sense!!!!!!!!!!! she spoke facts, people are so quick to judge the kid for cutting a parent off but never the parent!

My husband broke ties with his mom years ago. And it breaks my heart because he does not talk about his traumas at all and I tell him to talk to a therapist or someone about it but he is a very quiet serious man. On no there day she got upset at him because he didn’t even message her a happy Mother’s Day and he said he had forgotten but I know he didn’t because he got me something. I don’t know what he went through but it’s so sad. He is such a sweet, caring and loving man. I hope he opens up some day.

The conversation about Toxic moms got me because I wanted only boys and I have 1 boy and twin girls and I constantly day “i never wanted girls” and now I see how toxic that is I cant say that anymore and I wont. I love my beautiful girls so much and they love me so much. I would feel so guilty if they felt hurt about the way I word it.

I’m glad I’m not the only one. My dad raised me, and I’ve never had a close relationship with my mom. I felt like I was always in competition with her, even as a kid. I love her because she’s my mom, but I’ve learned to love her from afar. It sucks because I want to have children and I know she’s not going to be there like other mothers are there for their daughter. I’ve accepted it and I feel at ease.
speaking on the boy mom vs girl mom situation as a mom of both... some boy moms are so attached to their sons because they emotionally put the little boy in the place of their husband. their daughters most likely remind them of themselves and the things they struggle with and haven't faced. My husband is super present in my life and my kids live. so I could never put my son in the place of my husband emotionally. also, boys are considered easier to raise than daughters. but some boy moms are in love with their sons which is emotional incest which is so gross and such an ick...

I’m 30 I have a 4 year old, and I have no relationship with my mother. I hate when people tell me but she’s your mom, and that’s fine but she hurt me. It was my decision and I’m at peace with not speaking to her.
Same. I’m not a mother yet tho but I do hate when everyone tells me “but she’s you’re mom, talk to her” like NO. I tried my best having a great relationship with her, she’s the one who always talks bad behind my back making look like a horrible daughter.

Thank you for validating grown adults letting go of toxic parents, I grew up with a lot great friends who made my life so loving, and once you see a loving relationship it makes it so much easier to let go. Stay strong guys, real ones will understand.
I have 2 boys & 1 girl. Love all 3 of them the same just have different bonds with each. I think it’s toxic when the boy moms treat their son like their significant other. And get jealous of their sons one day having a relationship/marriage. That’s super weird 🥴

I have a girl and a boy. My daughter is 2 and my son just turned 9 months, and people would always tell me that boys are more attached & I would always brushed it off cause I love my daughter and I was like I am already experiencing what yall are talking about, but I can confirm that it is wayyy different!! My boy is super attached to me and wants to be with me 24/7, whereas my daughter is definitely more of a daddy’s girl! lol doesn’t mean you love them any less tho!!

With all due respect, I wouldn’t call it “old ways” but more conservative ways. I also don’t think they did wrong with putting those expectations on you as I think it helps to form character and morals but with a good balance. Not calling Karina a h*e but instead being able to put themselves in your shoes and understand what made your child make that choice. At least that’s how I think as a mom to 2 kids. Have good expectations for them but also remind them that I’ll always love them no matter what❤
i never liked thinking that my moms toxic because she is the only parent i have in my life and she’s done so much for me but this made me look at things differently. she always talked about how we clash because i “look and act like my father” and how “moms don’t get close with their daughters” but now i don’t feel too bad about who i am because it’s really not my fault. love you guys❤
So, as a "crazy cat lady" as they like to call me lol, Kittens can get pregnant when they're about 2 - 3 months old. Make sure they're ALL fixed.

I've been with bf/ fiance for 10 years. What gets me is that my younger brother moved out with his gf and my parents were OK with it. The double standards in latino culture make me so upset :(

Girl I developed allergies to cats and dogs while pregnant. I AM NOW 21 months postpartum and they never went away!!! 😭😭😭😭
I saw the 48 minutes and was sad and then realized it’s 1:48 and I’m living for it! ❤😂
I have a 7 yr old son. He’s very much doing chores here at the house and helping me around 🙏🏻 I will continue to enforce that in him and I’ve told him you need to learn how to cook for when your older and have your own home. I know he’s small but I feel like it’s something that’s important. My 3 year old daughter helps me put away clean dishes and puts the bag in the trash cans, vacuum. Do they do it perfect NO. Do I care to have to do it again? NO! They just need to start learning basic things in the home. Why? Because some of my husbands teenage nieces & nephews don’t even know how to wash dishes, take out trash, or cook an egg. My in laws live with them and it all falls on her. She picks up 3 teenage kids mess + her daughters + her son in law as well!!!

I just have to say that your siblings were so sweet for rescuing the cats and offering their home!!! karina if you so strongly feel this way about the cats and don’t want them in your home or maybe not all of them. Definitely have a talk with your sibling and get in contact with shelters!! ❤ they did an amazing thing by taking in a stray cat!!! as long as the loop doesn’t repeat ! definitely call shelters !

It’s an allergy due to the small kittens fur, their fur is much thinner than older cats. We had the same situation and now the allergy is gone since we rehoused the kittens.
Omg Karina please be careful with the cats while pregnant, I had to get rid of my cat when I was preggo because the cat pee is very dangerous for the baby and I didn’t want to take any chances. Especially if the cats are outdoors catching mice etc, that’s not very safe for you to be around that. 😢

Just as there are toxic and narcissistic parents, there are kids who carry these same bad tendencies, so it’s not always the parents, it goes both ways. Remember the circumstances of situations.
I have two boys and just found out I’m having a girl for my third! I feel like the feeling I’ve gotten is amazing with all three I would say I still haven’t had her but my heart got very happy because I know the relationship I have my mom! Makes me feel like I’m creating my best friend forever! My boys are all about me too so I do see the boys love their momma!

Girl if you’re gonna keep all 6 cats get all of them fixed asap. Cats can have babies as soon as 4 months old. Usually they go into heat around 5-6 months old but some do mature faster.

Mom of both here and I always wanted to be a “boy mom” but I got 2 girls first and then 2 boys and I love it! But yes the bond with boys is different as my son is super attached to me but I could never make my daughters feel any less bc of a gender!
