      Fischer had the highest rating gap between n1 and n2 than any player in history with 121 points, it is important to talk about this not about the actual rating. The best player in the newest era will almost always having the highest rating of all time. But just as magnus said discussing the goat of all time, rating gap between n1 and n2 is important and Fischer has 121 points in a era of Mikhail Tal, Petrosian, spassky, geller, larsen, keres, benko and many more. 2781 in 1972 is probably 2900-2950 today or even more. Fischer had a higher rating than Anand, Karpov had in 1980, 1990, and the 2000s, even with the inflation

      I think Fischer in 1970-1972 was better than carlsen. Highest rating gap between n1 and n2 with 120 points in history, official chess record. Magnus had 60 points as most. 20 win streak, 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2,5 against former WC and 2 top players, imagine ir Carlsen won for example 6-0 vs Giri/Nepo and then 6-0 vs Maxime/Grischuk and then 6-2,5 vs Kramnik. And then beating Spassky being down 0-2. Also Fischers rating of 2781 in 1972 would be around 2900-2950 today with the inflation. Fischer had a higher rating in 1972 than Karpov had 30yrs later and what anand had 40yrs later, still had higher with rating inflation.
      I think Carlsen has many feats by his own, as being n1 at 19 yrs old. Longest undefeated streak in history, defended his WC crown 2 times, winning almost every big tournament every year, having highest rating of all time(but this is probably irrelevant, the best player in any era that will come will almost always having the highest rating of all time due to rating inflation).
      In the end its hard to compare eras, both magnus, fischer and kasparov was the best in their own eras. But for me Fischer is the best player in his prime of all time, while kasparov had the greatest career due to his long reign, and magnus probably taking over kasparovs spot in a couple of years.

Even if they gather and work together, he would still be better since he is better than the best of them (quite logical, right?). Besides, Spassky had his own tactics and own way of playing and input from outside/other players would just distract him too much from his playing. And there are many other things to consider. The point which Magnus made is true
    We shouldn't have any idols instead we should idolize people’s qualities

    • @football_ix_lovee
      @football_ix_lovee Před 2 lety

      That's not true, we should idolize people. Idolizing qualities is arrogance. If you say so, then you shouldn't idolize Jesus but his qualities.

      @@football_ix_lovee I can't agree. Perfect example is Fischer here given by Caruana. We should all admire his incredible chess abilities and genius, but as a person, he wasn't that great. Plenty of incredible people who aren't really decent human beings.

    Magnus is big on himself because he's just an objective and truthful person. If he were the worst he'd say he is the worst. But he's literally the best, and he's calling it how he sees it. That's my speculation anyway. I speculate that because his attitude doesn't come off as conceit, it comes off as honesty somehow.

    What really bugs me about this video is that the crowd laughed after he said "myself" before hearing his follow up. It makes me feel like they laugh because they think he is being arrogant, naming himself as the player he most admires. When in reality he is talking about himself at a specific age. These kind of moments are what really make me love magnus more as player and as a man.
