  • The Bonang festival in Nesang happens every 12 years when Chandika Devi, residing in the Moorang village is taken on a pilgrimage to her ancestral home in the mountains above the Ropa valley.
    Chabdika Devi is joined by the Ormic Shu Devta from the Moorang village and the Shangche Kyum and Mela Kyum Devtas from the Nesang village.
    Together they go to the Pangrang Mata temple above the Nesang village. Where the priests perform sacred rituals which open a portal to the Ropa Valley across the Sutlej river.

      @indiainmotion  Před 6 lety +3

      Absolutely. The best thing about the festival for me was seeing the camaraderie between the people. On the downside the new generation doesn't seem to be as interested in the proceedings as the older people. All the young kids were bummed when they heard that the orchestra on the second evening was cancelled.

    I want to add that I visited Nessang in 1980 to attend this unique festival- The Fulaych ( Ukhyaang) of Kinnaur at my friend sh. ST Negi and his wife Mrs Anita Negi, who is village Pardhan from last more than 15 years and a renowned personality. I attended this festival right from its start to the last moment. It is an awesome festival and people who are employed outside Kinnaur try to be part of this festival and manage their presence.
    It has revived my old memories. At that time Satluj used to be crossed through "JHOOLA" bridge system and road was very narrow and troublesome.
    Thanks for your contribution in preserving our National heritage.

    how much time it took to reach the temple and then come back? It is such a rough way.. were you able to walk at ease like the locals? There's lots of similarities between the culture of Kinnaur and chamoli of Uttrakhan . We also celebrate nanda Devi raj jaat after every 12 years . I wish you could come to chamoli for jaat
