_The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air_ had so many episodes that were so much deeper than you'd think a show like it would go. It may just be an honerable mention here, but it's at least a top one for sure.
The Golden girls tackled many serious issues like Aids, single parenting, substance abuse, gay relationships and a lot of stuff that was quite daring during that period
"Boy Meets World" was a great series. It never shied away from any topic. It covered relationship issues, child abuse, teenage substance abuse, death and much more. The writers didn't cower when it came to the subject matter. That's why it aged so well.
I grew up watching Boy Meets World. It taught me a lot of lessons about the subject and life.
Every iteration of Degrassi did/does such a great job of tackling tough, or controversial subjects.
Agree, just a shame about most of the acting. Could have continued to be a great show if they cast better actors as the years went on.
from de show it hurt to see them kill de best member on dat show JT Yorke
Golden Girls should have been an honorable mention. Every episode was a very special episode.
100% agree with this. Even though it ended 31 years ago it’s still so relevant. It’s a show you can show any generation and they’ll learn something. Betty White, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty were the perfect matchup to take on such a generation defying series. And let’s not forget about Designing Women. Practically the same show, but from a younger perspective. Both shows ran for seven years, and just one year apart.
I think Bluey is heading up there in terms of handling sensitive and tough subjects, such as infertility, a possible miscarriage, and even death.
Totally agreed!!
How can Family Matters not be on this list? That show raised a ton of awareness of serious issues such as mental health, racism, gun safety, underage drinking etc. Family Matters will always hold a special place in my heart.
It is on one of the other videos about shows that deal with serious issues.
For anyone who didn't catch A Million Little Things during its run, find it and take it all in!!! One of the most honest, beautifully done dramas I've ever seen.
I only watch the frist season of it; it was to make for me to keep watching the other season.
Okay, I'll give it a watch. Thank you.
I believe that Buffy was also a great tv show to talk about death, sexuality, PTSD, and becoming an adult
Yes! I think it really dives deep into the characters complexity and insecurities which in turn shines a light on things like mental health, addiction, confidence, sacrifice, acceptance- but most of all, growing up
i clicked on this video praying crazy ex girlfriend would be here, but doubtful because it's so often overlooked... when the first thing that plays is josh groban singing beside rebecca i literally had to pause it and out loud say YES
cxg changed me as a person and really helped me come to terms with my neurodiversity. it was so exciting to see someone like me on screen for the first time, a weird, delusional, depressed, manic theatre kid. rebecca bunch helped me accept myself for who i am and my "differences".
I was also here to make sure this show was on the list. I love she was the representation you were looking for & helped you accept your perfectly imperfect self 💛
Boy meets world was one of my favorite shows growing up one of my favorite things about it was angela and seans relationshipe there was hardly any mixed race couples on tv in the 90s so i found it really amazing as a kid in fact half the time i didnt think about there races much i just loved them as a couple it was only as i got older that i noticed how uncommen that was back then
The writers were brave to do an episode on underage drinking.
@@Father_of_Death yes very good storyline
You've forgot about why Jessica Jones struggles from PTSD because of gaslighting, abduction, manipulation and sexual abuse by Kilgrave.
Loved Degrassi couldn’t agree more with them Being #1
One day at a time is so underrated!! If anyone hasn’t watched it yet, do it, you will not be disappointed
zoes extraordonary playlist handling of losing a person with a degenerative disease was amazing
Also buffy the vampire slayer had lots of brilliant things, like attemped suicide, rape, post traumatoc stress,
Also scrubs, greys anatomy, er, all the chicago series done doing some stuff on racisim, sexual abuse, ptsd, and lots of other things
if animated shows count, Bojack Horseman probably handled a variety of mental and societal issues really well.
Speechless was an amazing show and it portrayed a family with a disabled child properly. It tackled so many issues that people like me face on a day to day basis, and with the main character being played by an actor with the disability... It ended way too soon.
13 Reasons Why should also b here, as it tackles so many layers of troubled teens. It has also helped to raise awareness in order to help our kids (teen family members and friends) to lessen teen suicide and other things that affects them in such bad ways.
I read about the criticism the show received, so I must respectfully disagree. However, it *does* make for a good debate essay topic.
@Jeremiah Rivers have you had a chance to watch it? Very tough going but ultimately rewarding. I hoped it would be on this list😊
@@IndigosMumI did, and the novel was way better.
@Jeremiah Rivers I haven't read the novel yet but I will. Do you think 4 seasons was stretching the story out?
i agree and as a teen who self harms and has thought of committing suicide before it is horrible. you just have the pressure of school and yourself to be perfect when in fact we're not. none of us are
Degrassi: TNG was definitely the first thought I had as it tackled seemingly every issue. Good choice.
Honorable Mentions:
-Virgin River: It seems like an idyllic town, but the show really explores how many people suffer in silence. PTSD, alcoholism, abuse, infertility, death and dealing with illness and aging are all peeled away as you learn more about the characters.
-Bel Air: Fresh Prince got a shout out, but I think Bel Air heightens the kind of issues Fresh Prince hit on. A exploration on classism, racism, sexuality, substance abuse, authenticity among the Banks/Smith family and also among their peers.
-Friday Night Lights: Jason Katims other show, Parenthood, was here and it has a more multi-generational approach. But FNL was affecting and unflinching in exploring dementia, disability, infidelity, loyalty, abuse, teen pregnancy, sexual activeness, performance enhancing drugs and a town full of distant and disappointing parents that find a family with the Taylors.
The last dance episode of Full House. It should've been on the list because it dealing with grief and sadness of losing a loved one.
The video wasn’t about episodes. It was about shows that tackled serious topics-as in the whole point of the shows. Many of ABC's TGIF line-up had great episodes that covered serious topics, but only 2 of them did it regularly…and “Boy Meets World” was the one they chose. “Dinosaurs” was the other.
@@jinakayeFull House has multiple episodes that tackled serous issues
agreed
full house episodes were
Last Dance-papolli dying
Shape up-DJ dealing wit eating disorder
silence is not golden-Stephanie finding out Charles dad abusing him
Michelle rides again-Michelle losing her memories
Comet running away
Aftershock-Stephanie dealing wit anxiety after de earthquake
Just say no way-DJ dealing wit nobody but Steph believing shes not drinking
Nerd for a day-Walter n Steph dealing wit bullying
Fast Friends- Stephanie dealing wit smoking
Stephanies wild ride-wreckless driving
Stephanie dealing wit middle child sydrome
Under de influence-drunk driving
to name a few
#1 Six Feet Under
#2 Bojack Horseman
#3 The Leftovers
Degrassi deserves to be #1. I've learned so many things from this show that I still watch it 20 years later.
I really hope MsMojo would do a video on Top 10 Times Bojack Horseman Tackled Serious Issues since the show did a great job tackling serious topics such as gun debates/mass shootings, abortion, asexuality, sexual harassment, drug and alcohol addictions, childhood abuse and most importantly mental health!
so happy to see Parenthood on this list! that show rarely gets the recognition it deserves
So true. I think of it as the spiritual parent of This Is Us.
The Monk episode with the nudist, mr.Monk and the the naked man, dealt with prejudice better than 100 others like it.
The Problem With the Monk episode in which Adrian Monk had to Solve A Murder while dealing with his own Naturist Nudist issue's is it was a one-off and more importantly a one-off with no spin-off.
Oz delt with the complexities of mass incarceration and what the ultimate end of that incarceration should be years before those became hot button issues. While also dealing with issues like
Relgion, Racism, Drug and Alcahol addiction and holding onto one's humanity in an dehumanizing environment that you may never escape.
I would also say Full House as well
I would agree but not all episodes are that serious.
Degrassi well deserved #1 spot! Every damn episode is tackling serious issues
Degrassi the next generation was a great show
Seen every episode of AMLT, TIS, Fresh Prince, Boy Meets World, and Parenthood!
I'm so glad that Jessica jones is on this list the show is so great at dealing with serious issues
I came up watching alot of these shows. I literally just finished watching Brothers & Sisters last week. All are amazingly moving shows.
You had forgotten Bluey
That kids show did it really great too
I would have lot to have ER on this list, it's quite underrated in list videos like this one, but for this subject, it would have been perfect.
Wait… how is Law and Order SVU not on here?
Damn The Fosters not being here is kinda crazy to me
I feel like This Is Us should be higher but I do agree with Degrassi The Next Generation being the number one pick as it dealt with Death multiple times a school shooting bullying abuse rape and many other serious topics.
you forgot Skins, Modern Family, and the first two seasons of Battlestar Galactica
I watched and love the 10-5 on this list . Whenever I'm in a werid mood I watch One Day at a time. When Jessica Jones came out on Netflix my dad and I would watch every episode
a million little things is such an amazing show!! ❤
She talks about one day at a time like George Lopez didn’t tackle a teen pregnancy a decade earlier
Killgrave as played by David Tennent is frightening and brilliant.
If any of the Star Trek shows don’t appear on this list, it will be the biggest crime Watchmojo has committed.
Hi Ms. mojo, can you guys please do a video about how family matters tackled serious issues cause you haven’t done a serious issues video for that show yet? Thank you.
Please do top 20 times My Little Pony Friendship is Magic & Equestria Girls tackled serious can I have to do it sooner or later
How is Shameless and Bojack Horseman not on this list?
Wow, Rebecca's monologue at the therapy appointment still makes me cry.
Boston legal, Criminal minds, Black mirror, Marvel's Daredevil
This is us totally belongs on this list 💯
I love both Amilleon Little Things, and This is us, I was so sad to see them both go, nice to see Josh Groban this video, wich reminds me, I know I've said this before, but it would be really nice if WatchMojo, or MsMojo could make top 10 Josh Groban songs, I would like to see that very much.
This is Us also dealt with The Big 3 realizing that their beloved mother had early onset Alzheimer’s
I'm shocked Mandy Moore hasn't gotten more awards/recognition for her portrayal as Rebecca in This Is Us. Love that show!
Make part 2 to this
That so raven wow crazy they was one of the first one to take on a topic like this that it not on here
Sex Education would be a great add to this list too!
A list without Grey's Anatomy? Totally agree with shows like Parenthood and This is Us, although Brothers & Sisters deserved to be more than just a honorable mention.
this is another list that You’re The Worst should be on yet it’s too underrated
I knew I shouldn’t trust Ms Mojo to put Bojack Horseman on this list, but I got my hopes up anyway.
I definitely live under a rock because of majority of these and I mean a good majority these I have not seen. I focus on a lot of animated shows though.
so cool maN
I was thinking about Daredevil. A blind man, who loses his dad. Fighting for his life and the lives of those around him
Switched At Birth is one of the best! I mean there is no show that deals with Deaf and hearing relationships. I love watching Boy Meets World!
Six Feet Under dealt with the ultimate issue of life, death, in a profound, funny, graceful, irreverent, respectful, spiritual, insightful way.
My crazy ex-girlfriend and bojack horseman are excellent at tackled sensitive subjects, they do so well that sometimes is even confrontation with the audience
One show that is super underrated and that is better than the Fosters for me: Good Trouble
What do all of these shows have in common? All the good, decent shows get prematurely canceled.
Some of these work really well if theres a mean spirited bully to bully people with these serious issues like ableism or racism so it can make us viewers side with the victims well
Where’s Euphoria on this list?
Terribly written show
Number one 😌
The Greatest Show that touches on serious issues is a Naturist Nudist Show that touches on Naturist Nudist issues that doesn't exist.
TED lasso and 13 reasons why is missed on this list
13 reasons why is the last thing that should be on this list. It handled the topic horribly and glorified suicide as a means to get back at the people you felt wronged you.
Nip/tuck is the best show that handles sencative issues
No The Fosters/Good Trouble?! o.O.
All I see is: Emmy, Emmy, Emmy, Emmy, Emmy!!😅😂
i knew degrassi would be 1st ! it’s such a good show !!
What about Ted Lasso?!!!
As a person who was diagnosed with BPD I enjoyed Crazy ex girlfriend. ❤
A million little things at #10 with all of the sensitive topics it covers? That's absurd
13 Reasons Why should be here. And so should South Park!
maybe i shouldve watch SAB so i could learn more ASL
Dang! Im depressed that ATLA (aka: Avatar The Last Airbender) is not in here
Why isn't Skins or Euphoria on here!?
Jessica Jones was so real that I had to stop watching. Kilgrave wasn't terrifying just because of his powers. The emotional and psychological abuse, which was demonstrated with and without powers, was terrifying.
Being Mary Jane
Modern Family, 13 Reasons Why and Sex Education didn't even make it to the honourable mention??
my mad fat diary, skins...
Judging Amy with Tyne Daily.
No 13 reasons why? Family matters? It's probably cause, it's like all shows in the past that dealt with these and so it's time to show the updated shows from this current generation. That's imo.
What about Mom ?
where is the fosters
What about life goes on. Downs syndrome aides
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
What’s Latinx it’s Latino or latina
On e day at a time for a bad show. the mother was the only person who could act
Secret Life of rhe American Teenager.
First!!
Criminal minds should of been #1
I have never seen it but I want to yet have you seen Degrassi.
The amount of Black shows that could have been added to this but yet of course not 🙄
