The Tiniest Pure 24K Gold Cuban Link We've EVER Made!

- This is the first 24K Cuban link chain we've ever made AND the smallest too! Oh, and it was also such a pain to finish, that we probably won't make another one ever again LOL!
You can also use our calculator (link below) to configure your perfect gold chain.
www.crmjewelers.com/cuban-lin...
This particular chain was made from an assortment of pure gold bars, including five 1-oz bars, two 10-gram bars, and one 50-gram bar. There was 1-oz bar that we had already flattened out for another project to engrave a QR code on it. All in all, the gold bars added up to 225.2 grams of gold, but by the end of the video, after the extra gold weight was filed off, the final chain weighed 105.5 grams and was 6.5 mm wide.
Making gold Cuban chains by hand take a lot of time, work and dedication, but at the end of the day, the quality of the end product is much better than that of machine made chains, as you'll see on the video.
Here are the main steps to making the chain:
00:00 Pure gold bars used to make the chain.
00:14 Melting gold with torch and pouring into ingot mold to make bar.
00:59 Stretching gold bar with rolling mill to form wire of proper gauge (includes annealing).
02:17 Forming and cutting the links for the Cuban link chain.
04:26 Connecting and soldering the solid gold links.
05:30 Twisting chain to flatten and align the links.
06:43 Gluing chain with Shellac glue to board, then filing down to give the chain the characteristic flattened look of a Miami Cuban link.
8:22 Polishing the chain, welding the two end links together, and applying finishing touches.
10:15 Final chain weigh in.
10:22 Betty gets to try on the finished chain. How does she look?!
Let us know what's the tiniest gold chain you'll ever wear in the comments below.

Maybe there aren't enough Cubans there 🤷

I had the pleasure of messaging with Sandra a week ago. I told her My wife and I will be in Palm Beach a week from Monday (tomorrow) . We are making a day trip to Miami to come and see you all and look at chains, watches and buy some t-shirts!! Love the channel/content and looking forward to meeting the CRM team. Best watch dealers in the business (in my opinion).
@@michaelcastellano2318 wow Michael, that's sooo awesome! This is Dan by the way, Sandra's husband. Sandra's official 1st day at CRM is tomorrow (Monday). Will you be here this week or the week of the 27th? Just want to be ready to get some footage during your visit, since our videographer is out on vacation this week. Meeting fans when they come down is the most rewarding part of CRM Life!
Best therapy at home for depressed people is watching this beauty making, hope I own someday one.
Thank you Vertti. Amen to that. 🙏
The smaller they get the more difficult they are to make but you guys made that look easy!
Thanks man. Appearances can be deceiving. 😜
I love watching the Cuban link chain creation process. It's a true art to me and the craftsmanship in this video is amazing. 22k/18k Micro Cuban links might be the new trend, especially those that like to subtle flex. Much easier for every day wear and to travel with. Never say never about creating another one. Y'all might've created a new market for ladies who don't want all that weight on their neck with a 8mm or bigger but want to rock one daily. Heck, I'm interested in one for my son now, instead of ordering something similar to rose gold cross. Love it!
Thank you for watching Robert. We'll try to offer these after our ecommerce website is ready. Keeping our fingers crossed.
@@Crmjewelers sounds good! I definitely use the website from time to time for quotes.
Yeah, our current website sucks. LOL
I wonder what a 90% au & 10% iridium chain would look like.
Never realised how much work went into making a chain, a complete art work, amazing process, whalllllllllllllll
Thanks so much for watching 🙇
I love how their smallest ever Cuban link is what most people normally make. Don’t get my wrong that is very hard to make and they make it look easy but this just goes to show you how large they normally go when making these Cuban links. I only work with silver right now but would love to make a 24k Cuban link. That is a beautiful chain
They're easier to make when it's not 24K. That's for sure.
Right? This should be the standard for smallest chain, why bother wearing such tiny thin chains that will snap and break over anything and so tiny that the links don't matter from being so thin and dainty that you can't even see what type of link it is unless you got a jewelers loop.
I didn't know 30mg oxys go in to a Cuban chain no wonder they are so expensive.
HAHAHA, good eye.
Best comment here...I was wondering what those things were ... I thought they were either blues or mentos lol... What were those things if they werent oxys? 😂
Wax
If you’re getting oxy’s that are blue, your probably getting fentanyl
Nice to see the different processes, from start to finish. Thank you
Thanks for watching man. Our best Cuban link video is yet to come. Coming soon! 😉
Pure therapy! Thanks CRM crew,👏👏. I have a 24k necklace myself and let me tell you, the color is beautiful! Will never go back to anything else.
Thank you Derrick. You're right. There's nothing like the color of pure gold.
Love it! I’ll be driving over tomorrow from Naples just to visit your store. It’s been on my bucket list all year. I can’t wait to see the store and team!!
Thanks Chris. Looking forward to meeting you in person!

great job! the process is captivating)) I really want to make a chain in one of my projects too)
Thanks man. It's A LOT of work making one of these chains, but the quality is way better than machine made chains, despite what naysayers say.
I'm a first year apprentice and this channel is allways captivating keep up the great work
Thank you so much Jake. What jewelry do you make?
@@Crmjewelers been hand making opal rings and pendants as well as repairs from soldering chains back together resizing rings started as a hobbie cutting opal and now I work in a small shop as a first year apprentice jewler I also go to lightning ridge and mine as part of my job haha I hope to one day make a chain like this by hand for myself haha

I thought you guys only went up to 18k for your Cuban link chains, but I’m glad to see I can get a custom 24k piece down. Another reason to make CRM my one and only.
We'll be adding the 24K chains after we launch ecommerce.
Great job! That was cool.

Buen trabajo muy linda cadena
Glad to see you guys will work with 24K gold. Your website seems to cap at 18K. I bought from Mene before, but what I would really like one day is get a 24K cuban chain link from you folks. Soon I hope :-) .... PS - that blue plastic pail needs to be put out of its misery !
Ditto about the pail Frank LOL. Once we launch our e-commerce site and figure stuff out, we're seriously going to look into selling 24K Cubans on the website. For the time being, we'll keep our fingers crossed.
That looks amazing 🤩 👍🏼 I would love to have this as a Christmas present 🎁 from my Wife
Thanks Jesse. You still got time. 😜
Worth to watch
Thanks
very interesting process.. 👍
Thank you!
Love it great job
I always wanted a chain like that in real 24K
So Nice! For what is the temper in the pan of the links after cutting? Before cutting you tempered them already or did I miss something?
King regards!!
Beautiful
More 24k videos 👍👍
Thanks. That's the plan!

Amazing 😎🔥🔥🔥
Thanks!!
This is a awesome video. I'm no jeweler or gold smith but I feel I could make a Cuban link chain with a little practice. Making the clasps is something I would need to be shown how to do for sure. Also the shalack can it be substituted for wax instead? Someday I might try to make a chain out of copper or silver just to see if I can do it, looks like a fun process. Anyways thanks for the great video, hope all is well with yall.
What is the machine that twists the entire chain?? Where do you get one of those machines??
so cool !
what type of metal mixture do you use to solder a 24k gold?
What machine did you use to twist Cuban ?
I need a 24 karat Cuban. The color is so perfect. I have one similar but it’s only 14k so the color is lighter. I have a question tho how is the quality better on a hand crafted Cuban link chain as compared to a machine made chain?
The handmade ones are always better quality Tito. The finishing is better too.
How do you figure out how big the the space in between the links need to be for the gauged of the wire
That’s awesome
Thanks Darren.
Awesome
Thank you for watching Rene.
Congratulations on your beautiful work. Please can you give me the diameter of the wire and the gauge of the links, thanks
i have been a professional jewellery repair man for 55 years. I am now retired. I have made a medic alert braclet using the Cuban chain pattern. We call it Curb chain. The big difference was we had to use a manual roller, pull the wire through the draw plates using physical strength and twist the chain by hand in a vice with vice grips on the opern end. Other than that it was a very similar process. M
we did not do too much manufacturing but did a lot of repairs, alterrations ,diamond seting and stone setting and complete rebuilds of engagement rings which were very old and worn out. I was wondering what karet of solder you used and what was the hardness of the solder [easy.medium or hard] on the 24K chain..
Tom, Nova scotia ,Canada
I am curious aswell
I've seen that there's actually a difference between Cuban and Curb per fashion designers - Cubans are generally thicker/heavier with less room inbetween links than a standard curb. I'm doing a lot of researching because... Well, my brain went "what's the difference?" and that is the answer I found.
What were you pulling out of the strainer with a magnet 🧲?
i only wear 24k, which is the gold standard for many southeast asian countries and china, but i am envious of the mirror polish that 18k and 14k gold can take. with 24k gold you can never get a mirror polish like you can with 18k and 14k because 24k is not hard enough to be able to take mirror polish.
Yes, you're right Mina, but a lot of people love the richer color of 24k, which you can't get with 18k 🤷
Have you tried 19- 22 k gold?
@@roringusanda2837 22k comes very close to 24k in deep gold color look, and it takes higher polish than 24k, which Indian jewelries are using 22k.
@@minavamp2811 yes, I'm hoping to get a 22k snake chain someday. Either a flat snake chain or a box snake chain...
Incredible work. How much of the gold is lost when the chain is being filed down?
Quite a bit of gold is filed down, but it's reused to make other chains.
Nice! Do more cuban vids, what mm was that goldsmith's bracelets ty
Thank you. This chain was about 6.5 mm.
What kind of saw you using
Good morning what is the name of the motor tool doing the twisting of the chain
Nice video. It makes you want to buy or make jewelry lol
I know the feeling 😉
What was the torch and metal powder trick he used to clean it
What dose the wax help with?
Whats your trick to getting it off an oval rod? Anytime I use oval instead of round, its a pain sliding it off.
Excelente.
Muchísimas gracias 👍👍
Goddamn that was fascinating to watch. Crazy talented artists there. I am also amazed at how you need to start with more than double the raw material to end up with the final product. I knew there'd be some waste but I didn't think it was over 50%.
Thank you my friend. There's really no waste. All the gold that is filed off is used to make other chains.
How do you remove the shellack?
Whats the style called before the chain is twisted?
Watched the whole thing real quality craftsmanship... I wish I could make them ...I wouldnt sell them I'd make myself somthing unique to wear 🙂
Hi great video, very intriguing on how you do it and all the different steps you need to take to get the results, how much does something like that cost?
Thanks man. That chain will be around $8,000 today.
Very nice.
Thank you!
what kind of solder is that?
I watched a video where you made a chain weighing a kilo. It was impressive and all, but this one, shows class. I would much rather own this one than the huge one.
You gotta watch our most recent 2-kilo chain video that explains everything!
A lot of gold for the Cuban
Nah, not really. A lot of the gold is shaved off to give the chain it's characteristic flat look. Then the gold is reused on other chains.
What is the diameter of the wire for the production of this chain. ?
Amazing. 600mm length?
Given the purity of this beautiful 24k chain will more care be needed as compared to 14k or 18k?
I didn’t know 24k chains were possible.
If its like that thick no problem here in asia they do 23k and 24k but 18k is standard
It's closer to 660mm in length. We prefer 18k for durability.
Amazing craftsmanship. But they have to have machines that can do this more economically?
The quality is not the same.
If it's pure 24k gold wouldn't the chain be really soft and loose shape or bend very easily? The chain and video is beautiful, just curious because I usually only see chains in 14k or 18k .
It bends a bit easier, yes, but it doesn't mean it's like clay or anything. The smaller ones tend to get damaged easier as well.
So the 6.5mm is really tough to make... then is the 7mm much easier than a 6.5mm or are they both pretty difficult?
If his is a 24k chain, what were those turquoise colored pastilles that you put into the ingot mold @ 0:30 ? And what temp is than insane torch you used?
That's wax. It makes the gold flow out into the form better
Hello, quick question please, Why you melt 225 grams and the chain has just 105 grams ?
Much of it is filed off. But the shavings are swept up and used to make other things. There's so much filing down to make this shape of links, that it ends up about half of what you start with.
Very nice l like it
Thank you!
Whats the power tool they use to cut the links?
Yes would like to know as well
To me thats the perfect size cuban to where something meaningful and dont want to be flashy like a cross or a memorial piece or like i used to have a dog tag with my sons name amd Bday i wore everyday for like 5 years until it was no longer wearable as it was not gold. Id love tk have that cuban
so did you lose 120 grams of gold ? how much did you recover ?would be very interested to see what you lose in total.awesome skills by the way.
How much will you sell this for?
We're currently not selling 24k chains, but we have a calculator in the description you can use to configure any other chain. In the near future, after our ecommerce website is finished, we might start offering 24k chains. 👍
@@Crmjewelers Please do because I love 24k and with so many different options in sizes and lengths I truly think that would be great
I'd love that size for a bracelet ❤
3:30 forbidden fried rice
When people get pissed that the chain costs twice as much as it's gram weight.. show them this video lol
Exactly
so what happened to the 119.7g of gold? was it recovered for another project?
Yes, exactly. All the dust is recovered to be used for other chains and projects.
How much are we look at for something like that
Wow no clasp 💪🏾 How many inches?
