  • This is a short video on how to check the sunroof drains that might have popped off. Most vehicles just get clogged but alot of the VW and Audi cars, the tubes pop off the collectors.

excellent video about a super common German problem... on Benz as well!
Two failure modes for these high maintenance princesses:
1- cheap conduit pipe shrinks short then disconnects itself
2- bottom outlet rubber plugs itself like a chewing-gum
While working around your sunroof liner... lube the tilting motor, gearings and track before the light lubricant is all evaporated out. Prefer *silicon* lube instead pretroleum grease.
    👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks for this.....have a 2003 A4 wagon and water pooling in the wheel well.....couldn't figure out if it was the boot seal, roof, light etc but the sunroof sounds like the culprit......what a PITA for something I never use!

in the water leakage department, *check* your *trunk* spaces (center and both sides) for evidence of trunk lid and tail lights foam trunk seals swamping *priceless* control electronics...

Is this the same for B8 A4 Avants, I have water in the rear drivers side fender, but the drain does dribble some water.

The lessons in removing the trim to get to see the drain tubes are priceless! Wish I could see you actually do it too, instead of talking about it after, but I still get it. The pop-off of the drain tube happens as frequently as being clogged, from what I've learned. Pop-offs are bizarre! Some damn little gremlin running around in there at night pulling off the drain tubes? You said "removing the rear view mirror" but you are removing the passenger visor that has a mirror in it.

Haha, thanks. Yes, I did mean to say vanity mirror, not rear view. I tend to try and do a single take and minimal editing.

I have a question about the battery drain due to the fan , it keeps running for hours after I turn off the car , I got many opinions on that 🏟🌋 , some says it could be the fan controller , some says the sensor and some says it is thermostat, which do you think might be the problem ?

Does that apply to 2009 Q7? I have a leakage problem, I cleaned the drain vent down by the passenger side, It was leaking from the roof and also got water on footwell.

The Q7 has similar drains at the 4 corners of the sunroof. It's always a good idea to pull the headliner down and see if they are disconnected. Also check to see if they are making a good seal where they are attached at. I've also seen cases where the hose is attached and clear but still leaks at the roof and onto the headliner because the seal was poor. Just run some water into the tray and it should run down the rail and into the drain. If it leaks at the hose connection, you can just apply some clear silicone sealant and let it dry. Make sure it's free of water and moisture before attempting to put sealant though.

@@SkyhookStudios I took the roof off , the rails were so clogged with sand and grease together, cleared the four trails , poured water and it went through after cleaning . Then sprayed it with W40 , all perfect now 👍👍👍👍
