    Any Germans here? Shwarze Mann translates- Bogeyman? or Boogeyman? So the song is about (essentially) the Unknown? Or threats that America BELIEVES is around every corner? Yes?

    • @jdubbs8242
      @jdubbs8242 Před rokem

      Not even close.... Schwarzer Mann is literally the "Black Man". The song is about the political right wing using the threat of immigrating black/ brown skinned people (in this case refugees and political exiles) to scare people into following their racist ideology.

      It's an old German myth that parents would threaten their children with if they didn't behave, and now it's morphed into a fear for adults as told by a madman's message coming into our homes, to BE afraid.

    Why is it reading Bogeyman when it’s clearly Black Man that he’s saying?

    • @educatedmarine
      @educatedmarine  Před 2 lety +29

      The names are interchangeable. While Black Man is a more direct translation, the name Bogeyman fits the lyrics and ideals of the lyrics a bit more suitably in my opinion. Primarily that the Bogeyman in modern legend doesn't exist and is known to be made up by the people it's used against where as the Black Man is presented as a more real character in most tales. The song presents the Schwarzen Mann as more of an idea being pushed rather than an actual thing that exists. So I chose Bogeyman

    • @Robocline
      @Robocline Před 2 lety +9

      @@educatedmarine ok it makes sense. I’m just trying to understand the song. It’s a great song but I know there’s a political message and I really want to get it right. I don’t speak German fluently but I understand enough that it was confusing me.

      @@Robocline I speak some German. It's all about context. Much like in English, some words/phrases have dual meanings. This is intentional in this song to show the stupidity of being afraid of someone of different colour. This kind of wordplay is a signature Rammstein style lyric.

      @Alecfisher01 Před 2 lety +9

      “Everyone is afraid of the Blackman” doesn’t sound right, at first glance it sounds like he’s talking about African people
