  • Here’s a quick hack to loosening your wheel studs or bolts if your car is already jacked up and you can’t apply the brakes.
Can’t undo your wheel bolt, forget to loosen them before jacking up, follow this simple tip.
It’s easy to forget to undo your wheel bolts ready for work or you have jacked your car up and now you need to remove your wheels. If you can’t apply the brakes or you’re working on your own, this is a great trick to loosen your wheel bolts. You can also do this to tighten your bolts or studs but be sure to check them afterwards with a torque wrench.
In some easy steps, firstly remember which way your bolts or studs need to turn to undo them. All bolts are generally right hand thread. That means we turn the right or clockwise to tighten them and anti-clockwise or left to loosen them. Remember the phase righty tighty , loosey lefty..
So, it’s best to position yourself so you will be forcing downwards with your bar to undo the bolt. In a swift movement, move the wheel upwards or clockwise and then quickly jolt downwards anti-clockwise. You may need to repeat this several times until the stud or bolt is fully loose.

Good tip :-) I found myself in that very situation a few weeks back but I was lucky enough to have an Impact Driver to hand lol...

Basically, same principle as an impact wrench.
