    Welding is a great skill to have. It's so cool to see you use it frequently to fix your stuff. I appreciate this type of build, where someone actually fixes something instead of just buying all new parts, because to me, that really requires skill. Anyone can swap parts, but you FIX things. Great job. BTW, I am a proud owner of qty2 - 3dmachines beanies!

      I would also relocate the battery for sure. And I would get the smallest one possible. It just needs to be able to run the starter for 30 sec. I bet a 4ah would be fine, and it is small enough you could relocate it somewhere better. I can't imagine what yamaha was thinking when they designed it that way!

    Dalton, you might not have known this but you really should not put your hands in the ultrasonic cleaner while it is on. The ultrasonic waves can burst your cells causing blood vessel and joint damage. I have an ultrasonic cleaner myself and it cleans parts up spick and span. I'm really liking the content, getting to see you fix every component. Keep it up man!

    Permatex paint stripper is amazing. I have an 86 Honda 350 and it was painted camo when I got it but I wanted it back Honda red. That stuff took the paint off like nothing and didn’t hurt the plastics at all. The stuff is kinda hard to find but some Napa stores carry it or can order it. It’s well worth what it cost

    I've heard that a 50/50 mix of acetone and atf makes a really good penetrating/releasing fluid. Also, heavy varnish on brass carb parts can be removed really quickly with cellulose thinners. Acetone would probably work here too.

    Two items about the battery:
    1) A couple of model years before or after this one, the battery was mounted high up in the space between the taillight and the rear of the air filter box. Might be worth a try here.
    2) You mentioned something about a strap to hold the battery in place. The bracket you have essentially supports the rear, bottom and left end of the battery. The front, top and right end were supported by another piece of formed steel, not a flexible strap. This support had a tab that slid into the rectangular hole just below the hook on your bracket, the hook that looks like it should have the D-ring of a strap in it. This support was then held in place with a fourth bolt that went through a hole in the support and was then screwed into the threaded hole visible on your bracket to the right, or rear, end of the battery. • @harrisb43
      @harrisb43 Před 4 lety +1

      I thought that as well, but the wiring diagram for this machine shows only a single conductor coming from the negative battery terminal. The ring terminal could, however, be the remains of a "bonding" conductor between the battery box and the chassis frame, designed to provide a path around the painted surfaces brought together by mounting bolts. Best practise is not to trust threads and scratched-off paint to provide ground paths. Especially on new assemblies. Did the ring terminal have teeth?
