- The new Leica APO 35mm Summicron f2 lens for M-mount Leica cameras is probably the most versatile lens that Leica have ever made for the M rangefinder cameras. It also has been completely redesigned to maximise contrast and render detailed ideally suited for the current high megapixel sensors and future ones such as the rumoured M11 due for release late 2021.
In this video I unbox the lens and marvel at the quality and design.

Looks great. I hope mine arrives soon.
Fingers crossed!
hi ! :) I got mine just about a week ago :) great lens !
Fantastic, enjoy. My 1st shoot video will be out in the next week or two. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I love that hood. I wish they made that for my asph cron v2.
yes, great concept. It will be interesting if any unbranded versions start to appear on the internet.
@@Adventure8 Well, both lenses are E39 and screw on filter… I wonder if it will screw in and fit properly?
Hi, I follow your account for a few years now. I love your channel.
Wanted to ask you if you’d have to choose one Leica lens which one would it be? I know it’s a repeated 😅 question. I am really interested to hear what you have to say now with all these leica lenses.
If I only had one M lens and only one M camera, it would be the close focus (0.45m) 35mm Summilux f1.4. I have the one that focuses down to 0.7m. The 35mm APO Summicron is a close second for me because of its close focus ability. Needless to say, the close focus is only useful if you use the EVF or back screen of the M camera. What is you choice?
@@Adventure8 Thank you for your reply. Interesting. I thought you’d pick the apo cron 35. I never owned a 35 before. Had various 50s Lux, Apo, and Noct 0.95. Sold all my gear last year. Regret it :/ Planning to buy M11-P with one lens. There is no Apo 50 close-focus yet.
Considering your choices, I will go try the new Lux35. I did try the apo 35. Then decide between Lux and Apo 35.
Congrats on your new lens, hope it serves you well.
All the best.
Yep, looking forward to putting it through its paces. Test the extremes etc. Thanks for watching.
I own a 1994 M6 Classic and a 2002 M6 TTL with Summicrons 28, 35, 50 & 90mm, none APO or Asph. I plan to have them encoded to use with digital Ms. Am I missing anything if I shoot those fantastic lenses from a M11 ? Thanks for your review btw.
I’ve found I’ve had to relearn photography moving from film to digital. It’s an ongoing process. All your Summicron lenses will work wonderfully with the M11. If the desire and budget is there, the APO 35 Summicron and the new 35mm Summilux also offer close focus down to about 30cm, as opposed to the normal 70cm close focus. Something to consider for the future. Will the M11 be your first digital M?
@@Adventure8 no but my X1 is not match. I’m familiar with menus though. I was advised to wait until next month as there may be a M11 Monochrome launched…
Great lens! But I have a question: seen also an analog M camera, is it possible to focus up to 0.3 (or minor than 0.7) with the rangefinder in analog? The optional esternal finder might be work? Or this minimun distance works only with digital bodies? Thanks
My understanding is that the range finder on Leica film and digital camera bodies are all designed to operate in a focus range from 0.7m to infinity only. Other focusing methods need to be used for any focus distance closer than 0.7m. eg. for digital, Live View, Electronic View Finder.
Did you purchase from Leica online or the Mayfair?
I'm based in Australia, so most new purchases (during Covid times) has been online via Leica Australia.
Would love to see your images taken with 35mm apo
There are a few videos that I have done on the APO. Here is one to get started with. czcams.com/video/2VGzjh2S2PE/video.html
Hi there, love you video. I was just wondering, does the APO works on your M4 from (0.7 - ♾)?
Yes it does!
@@Adventure8 Mine didn’t work on my MP 0.72. Gotta take it to the store now. Thanks a bunch and keep up the great work.
I had another look with my M4. Interestingly, I stand corrected. Answer is yes and no. The APO 35mm worked the range finder correctly from♾ to about 0.9m then stopped. So you need to guess the distances between 0.3m and 0.9m. I also tested on the M3. Similar results, but stopped operating the range finder at 1.0m. The MP worked correctly down to 0.7m.
@@eangmanith : Unusual. My MP 0.72 works correct from ♾ to 0.7m . My M4 is OK down to 0.9m and the M3 down to 1.0m. Interesting.
No the excellent Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical Lens which have outstanding optical image quality ! You can use the (US)$8000 you save on a lot of other things, so the Voigtländer are the most versatile Lens !!!
👍
we will wait for ver2 from cosina to have the close focus fuction.
@@swcblad I do no think it will be an advantage to have closer focusing.
Has all this gear and still can't take a well composed photo. These type of dopes are all over the internet...Far too much money and no skill at all
Cheers
So true! I cannot disagree. I wonder where I can farm out body parts for funding too!
