No one is going to disabuse me of the FACT that Gazza was the most gifted English player ever. He may not have been the most decorated...but he was the best. And all he gets is an honourable mention. Mojo can do one.
Alex Ferguson said Gazza was the most talented English player since Bobby Charlton. Hard to argue with that. Ferguson tried to sign him for Man Utd. What a midfield that would have made. Gazza & Robson.
Not even close, this is only an opinion because it makes a good fall from grace story. The majority of todays England players are twice as gifted as that alcoholic.

You've been caught up in the fairytale hype. There is a reason he never played for a top club in his career. Lazio was the closest he ever came.

In terms of natural talent, Gazza is number 1 by a mile. Never seen a more gifted England player

Kane, Lineker,Shearer and Rooney ahead of Jimmy Greaves? He was the greatest English striker ever. A genius. Very similar to Messi. The other 4 are great players but Greavesie was a genius.
I agree Jimmy was brilliant.
International players should ultimately be judged on how successful they were in the big tournaments. Players like Gerrard, Beckham, Rooney etc. never got England past a quarter final and Engalnd's performances during that era were generally dire. Meanwhile Gazza, who was an instrumental player when England reached two semi-finals that they lost on penalties and played brilliantly in both those matches, only gets an honourable mention. Ridiculous. he was far better than any of them.

David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard were unstoppable in their peak for England, scoring goal after goal for the three lions.

David Beckham was unstoppable. I think you've bought into the media hype that he generates. He was a good player, an outstanding player but when he needed to step up in important games against top international opponents he was absent. If have had Gazza and Waddle ahead of him as England players, which this video is about (not what they did for their club). The same is true about Rooney.

Surely someone like David Seaman deserves to be on this list, plus some of the great centre backs that we've had through the years. Just because they don't score the flashy goals doesn't mean they weren't some of the best players in the world, perhaps even the history of the world.

Ridiculous list. No Jimmy Greaves the greatest goalscorer ever in English football with a goals per game way ahead of most of the competition. Not even in the honourable mentions ? Agree with Bobby Charlton at No.1 but to put some of those more recent players in ahead of Greaves devalues the exercise.

Defender: Tony Adams, Rio Ferdinand, Terry
Midfielder: Gascoigne, Gerard, Scholes
Attacker: Shearer, Rooney, Kane
Dixie dean and tommy Lawton are way ahead of all these

Shearer, easily top 3. Shearer should be higher than Gerrard, I mean Gerrard shouldn’t be in the top 5. Rooney may be in the top 5, but not in the top 3.

Stretch it out to 20 and Gaza, Frank Lampard, Alan Ball, Martin Peters & Stuart Pearce would all be in my pick. Strange thing is our current crop are experiencing more success than these guys, with the obvious exceptions of Moore, Charlton & Banks.
Matthews and Banks and 10 and 8. I’d put both higher. Both revolutionaries of their time and that is why they both have status at Stoke City.
Also, you mentioned Lineker never had a yellow or red card Over his career. Matthews didn’t either.
Don't get me wrong, Stan was a player who would never commit a foul or do anything untoward (intentionally) - but do remember that in his day, yellow cards didn't exist.

I remember getting up at 6am to watch Frankie Lampard, my best player by a mile. Loved him at West Ham my team, loved him at Chelsea my second team. Proper UK Gentleman. He finished his career at arguably one of the best teams of all time the mighty New York City FC. It’s a pity he never got to win a Worlds Cup for Team Great Britain Men.

This is one of the worst lists I've ever seen. So many omissions. With the title being England players not English players, the list should really only take into account major international tournament performances. In which case, Geoff Hurst, Michael Owen, Billy Wright, Gazza, and even Maguire should all be contenders
