I am here on the last day of 2020. And I love looking back at the beginning of the year and seeing how hopeful we all were before the world fell into chaos. It brings back memories of better times, I guess. But here's to hoping that 2021 will be as good as we all hope it will be.

I personally don't think of new year's resolutions as sth I have to do or wait for. For me it's more like an excuse and extra motivation. Like "ok I didn't manage to do this thing last year so this year I'm gonna try harder to achieve it". It's more like a clean slate, a fresh start of sorts. Leave all the disappointment and baggage in the past and start a new chapter. I agree that you can start sth anytime but it feels a little bit more special right after new year starts.

Although I personally practice that the wiccan new year is Samhain, I do agree that the "new year" in January is very powerful because of the collective intention setting that you mentioned. I also had to get myself a spell a day book/calendar :)
I do a New Year jar spell
I use rose for my goals to come sweetly. Using the high vibrations of roses
my pendulum told me I wouldn't achieve my new year goals so guess who's gonna prove it wrong!!!!!!!

Instead of waiting to make a change on new years, I think of it as a time to sit and reflect on if I want change things, what goals I want to set, what I desire.
You can get so caught up in life, new years is a great time to schedule reflection. Of course I also use it to schedule a deep cleanse of my magickal tools for a nice clean slate and I re-enforce my protection spells and amulets to make sure they do not go stagnant.

Happy New Year! Personally, I follow one of the non-Western new year (Nōrūz) and will be doing all this kind of stuff then. I will probably take a lot of advice from this video for it. About 300 million people will be dong new year then so you might want to consider catching a bit of the wave of that energy too if it strikes your fancy. Just a thought. Good luck. (:

A lot of prep work and I'm with ya, new year might not matter much but you can make it matter with your intentions! And I've felt for days changes are coming - even if it's just a self fulfilling prophecy, l will take it 😊 I got Jessi's planner from her patreon for spiritual practice and I'm ready to leave stagnation in the last century.

Year of the Rat begins on Jan. 25th (Chinese New Year). If you're looking up your Chinese astrology sign and you were born before the Chinese New Year, then your sign is the one for the previous year. Chinese New Year is normally somewhere between Mid-January and Mid-February so if you're a January or February baby you may want to look up when Chinese New Year was for the year you were born.
