I really love it. Somehow I feel like our professor had too much burden on him and no one except Gellert could understand him and love him as a human with a lot of darkness. Even Harry sees him as an idol to look up, they only see a powerful and wise wizard with a little bit witty and warmth. But only Gellert was the one who loved him when he was nothing, a country boy who stood alone in the darkness, who has a tragic family to take care of and a young soul who desired to fly high but had to burry his youth in a hopeless situation. That’s why he could not stop falling in love with Gellert, that’s why he has to accept the fact that they could never be a couple who would have a beautiful life together like others

But the fact is that they only ever loved each other and never loved anyone else or felt loved by anyone else the way that they did each other and just as you said that's what's truly heartbreaking about their love story that they could never be together in spite of all that.
We can only hope and imagine that they found each other again in eternal peace.
@@knowledgegathererdraftsave1979 I hope it's somehow retconned in a future movie so the book version of Grindelwald is shown when he's murdered by Voldemort (he doesn't betray Dumbledore) and it's made clear that Harry was given a false version of events in that vision. and then, as you say, they find peace with each other because Dumbledore may know what truly happened and Grindelwald did indeed love him to the end ;-)

I don't know why (likely just similar dialogue but also the whole family thing and loving someone you cannot be with for some reason), but that reminds me of the scene in The Originals (my favourite show) where Klaus says to Kol "You are a Mikaelson. I love Aberforth Dumbledore questioning Harry like he did as he wanted to protect him. To help Harry sort out his thinking going forwards. He could not protect his son from being Gellert's pawn; but he could protect Harry from being his brother's pawn on his brothers power trip by asking Harry; why are you blindly following my dead brother? It is worth poiting out that Albus and Aberforth could not have asked for Aurelius Dumbledore to live with them at the time as Albus had just come of age, his brother was still at Hogwarts and they had just buried there little sister who they were caring for and lost Gellert.
