Fz1 rough idle and stuttering at low rpm ( when warm )

  • My Fz1 started to have a rough idle only when its warm and at a low rpm its really jerky. After a week or 2 it was back to normal but now a month are so later it starts doing it again.
    I checked the coils ( when cold ) and they where in spec. The spark plugs should only have about 6000 km on them and should be 2 years old.
    Does anyone know whats wrong with my bike ?

    Just got the same issue. I didn’t wash the bike as many assume, since water goes to the coils. I thought maybe bad fuel might cause this, but I think you’re right. It’s the coils. Although was I give gas , rpm’s go up naturally and the bike moves fine. Only on idle there is this issue.

      Hey man sorry to hear that you have the same problem. The only thing i did was changing the ignition coils to a different place ( the 1st coil on cylinder 4, the 4th coil on cylinder 3 and so on). And until now the problem has not returned for me yet.
      I hope this helps you to

    The engine idling rpm is too low. Book says it needs to be between 1100-1300 r/min for a 2008+ Yamaha FZ1. Had the same issue on my 2013. RPM was idling right around 900 r/min creating shuttering at idle or within friction zone. Adjusted to around 1200 r/min via the idle adjusting screw located left side center just below the tank. Now she's smooth as butter and purrs like a kitten.

      @@mobleyMobley I don't have the book for a 2006 but the mfg recommendations should be similar. 1200...1250-1300 r/min at operating temp (warmed up). Never hurts to have the service manual for any bike you own. For me, always comes in handy.

      Nope listen to that stutter it’s the ignition coils. FZ1s are notorious for Ignition coil problems

    Does your engine stall when you ride and idle at traffic lights bro? Currently having the same problem.. but engine cuts off sometimes too.

      Hey man sorry to hear it.
      No mine never stalled. The idle at traffic lights was like in the video and when i started to go it was really rough but once i reached between 4000 and 5000 rpm it was fine. The only thing i did was changing my coils 1 position over ( pull all the coils out and put them back on a different cylinder ) and mine has bin running fine now for almost 1 year. (ps its doable without removing the radiator you only have to unbolt it )

      Hey have you figured out the problem!? Mine as been doing the same latley will sometimes stall at al light. And have a short stutter when starting to give throttle. And also when warming up sometimes it’ll die and starting it back up it’ll just cut right out

      @sannick11 it's cause u pulled coils off plug threads, it scrapped the crusty metal and now makes good contact metal to metal.

      Sorry to hear. I only changed the ignition coils to an other cylinder ( put the 1st coil in the 2nd cylinder, the 2nd coil in the 3rd cylinder, ....) thats the only thing i did and mine hasn't had the problem anymore ( its been 2 years now ). And maybe spray some contact cleaner in the coils and on the connections.

  • @cyberkiller83
    @cyberkiller83 Před 2 lety +5

    This is clearly a ignition coil issue. Maybe your coils are wet or they broke, so you have spark energy leak.
    If you change them of place, maybe it can help a little, but this is a clear indication that you need to change one of them.
    The problem is to know wich one....

    • @Doodlejump61
      @Doodlejump61 Před 2 lety +2

      It cant be the ignition coil as i have the same issue i have replaced the whole ignition coil and spark plug but still having the same problem

    • @cyberkiller83
      @cyberkiller83 Před 2 lety +2

      @@Doodlejump61 Well maybe on your problem wasn't ignition coil, but it could be for the user posting the video. Now, ignition coil is just one of many possibilities, it could be failing TPS, fuel inyector, spark plug, low pressure from fuel pump... there is a lot of possibilities, is just that FZ1 is known to fail the ignition coil.
