    I don't even think the "real" box discovered 6 years ago is all that it appears to be. The whole box thing may be a hoax to get $30,000 out of a $3,000 game..

      While true, it could be the same producer selling in the background. Not sure if you ever read The 2600 Connection, but someone in the very early 90's wrote how the box opened like a book.

      +ZapOnlineOrg The first box found, the guy found it in his attic after reading a list of the rarest video games and once the description said blue T shaped handle he knew he had it. It had an early 80's Tuesday Morning store price sticker in the corner.
      The second box found, this one with the manual was from a man who in the 80's worked in a phamacy which also sold games. A Men-A-Vision rep came with the game and gave him it to see if he was interested in stocking the game. He took it home and didn't like the game. He called the guy and said he wasn't interested and said he can come into the store to get his sample back. The salesman said to just keep it and how not many were interested in stocking. The man paid the store a few dollars for it since it was given to the store. He had storage cases for his games so all his games were still in their boxes when he got his old display cases out of storage after he heard about the last Air Raid sale and remembering he had the game. This one was sticker free.
      There are videos about both men on youtube. Both are real.

    There has been a seller also in Australia selling fakes of Red Sea Crossing and Gauntlet on Atari 2600 over the last few months for thousands of dollars. Red Sea is so rare they estimate only 100 were made and maybe 10 have been found and this person has sold maybe 4 in the last 3 months for on average $1000 each...

      +krull1981 Exactly what I was thinking, if in fact the daughter didn't know it was fake and the father fabricated it, she doesn't like people saying her father would try to scam people either. She think's its an insult to her dad that they would accuse such a thing. But in the end it doesn't matter since its obviously fake and has now been "broken".

  • @stevai6732

    Check their feedback. She sold two cars for around 20 grand as well as plenty of other expensive items. The only negative feedback is on a Monte Carlo going for 6 grand, and she apparently backed out of the deal because the buyer was a "compulsive liar". It's possible we're honestly just dealing with an older woman who literally doesn't know any better. Seriously. You can see her in the pictures of the car that sold for 20g, by the way. I think people are being way too hard on her, but I guess the damn thing's fake. I don't know enough about the game to say. No need to send her any more shit than she's already received. What a clusterfuck, I actually feel sorry for her.

    • @gozinta82
      @gozinta82 Před 8 lety +7

      +stevai6732 Whatever the case, sellers need to learn. If she is truly naive, then how did she jump to conclusions and attempt to sell the game for it's full price? You don't give sympathy to these people, you teach them in a way that they will never do it again. Does she realize that if that cart sold and the buyer wanted to, they could report her and she could do major prison time? Breaking the law is breaking the law.

    • @neoasura
      @neoasura Před 8 lety

      +gozinta82 Thats half the problem right there.Ebay has focused so much on catering to the Sellers that it forgot the buyers aspect. It sounds like this broad is a scammer and knows the system...and somehow Ebay caters to her ilk?

      The thing is, she knows how old these things are, and if she is an ebay seller, she better damn well know that there are things out there worth collecting. Worth paying lots of money for. She should also know that there are scammers, shady people or just stupid people and she needs to take responsibility. If she learns anything from this (assuming she didn't know), she needs to do 5 seconds of research on her items before posting them (especially if they're 20+ years old). I just don't see how she could be a seller and know so little.

    • @rogersherman3546
      @rogersherman3546 Před 8 lety +6

      +stevai6732 some of her positives are actually negative feedback if you read them, its just as a seller you need to leave positive even if you are leaving negative feedback

    • @stevai6732
      @stevai6732 Před 8 lety +3

      +gozinta82 No one is doing prison time for selling ONE fake game on ebay. Nothing would happen. The law doesn't care to that extent over an older woman accidentally selling a fake game on ebay. It's perfectly reasonable as to why she wouldn't know it's fake. Seriously, how the hell is that so hard to understand? You think an ignorant non-gamer is going to give two shits about inspecting every single aspect of the game like finding FAKE CREASES?! Hell no, they're gonna see that they have a rare game, get real happy about the upcoming profits, AND POST IT! This has been ridiculous, I can't believe people are so shocked over this shit. Even her reactions are understandable because of all the shit people are throwing at her. The 4chan level virgin rage in her inbox is probably awe-inspiring.

    Someone else has probably posted this but Cash Converters is a chain of pawn shops with ridiculous prices. their online store currently has a loose Super Mario Bros for $39 plus $3.50 postage AUD. While the prices on NES games are significantly higher in Australia, I think I paid $60-$70 for all three Super Mario Bros games and about $130 for Castlevania 3, I use this as a demonstration of their ridiculous pricing as I'd say $15-$25 each plus postage would be the standard for Super Mario Bros 1-3. It'd be great if at some point you guys talked about retro gaming outside the US, though I can appreciate that you might not know much about these markets.

    • @totallyterrificpants6226
      @totallyterrificpants6226 Před 8 lety +2

      +Nicholas McCaskie Cash Converters are okay rarely but almost every time their prices blow. One time I did get about 15 Atari games for $3 each and last weekend I got a Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie vinyl box set still factory sealed for $180 when on average that box is $300ish.
      But yeah, with Cash Converters these are one good deal every 4-5 years.

    This is the same type of thing scam artist Charles Band did/still does with old rare big box Wizard Video VHS tapes. He reprints the boxes and with a trained eye you can see sticker residue, crease marks, etc. from scanning the original boxes to make replicas. Then he sits there and swears they are original stock recently unearthed from a warehouse. These sorts of lowlifes affect all hobbies. They never get their stories straight and foul up eventually. Collectors know these details like their hand. We will find the truth.

      @slipknotboy555 Před 8 lety

      +Mr Fathead Yep, she obviously does, it's funny that a couple people commenting seem to have bought her bullshit. And that thing about the c64 is just another piece of evidence that she's not only a scammer, but a horrible one. I sincerely doubt (hope) no one would honestly think a gold one existed and buy it (and also that they wouldn't be able to tell it was spray painted). Still, really adds to her shittiness in my eyes; I've recently gotten really interested in early 80s computers, and I think the c64 is my personal favorite.

    "Someone on the internet said something mean about me, take them to jail!"
    People are so stupid nowadays. When you go to sell something, you have to know what it is you're selling. Not JUST for the sake of the buyer, but for your own sake as well, you don't want to let some worth thousands of dollars go for $20 and people don't want to spend $100 on an Oculus Rift only to find out that it's just a pair of safety glasses duct taped to earmuffs.
    If she looked up the game and saw how much it was worth, she should've looked closely at the cartridge and looked up pictures to make sure they matched up and make sure nothing on the cartridge looks out of place...like that T-handle.
    When the SNES-CD prototype was found, many were skeptical that it was legit (myself included) and why did we? Because of shit like this. Something "rare" comes up and it turns out to be some douche bag trying to make a quick grand off of the gullibility of others.

I believe it was menivision. either way sounds like they are now trying to claim ignorance of this fake

    I have one question has anyone seen a gameplay or a video of Air Raid because I wanted to know if people have the real game. Since people can say they have Air Raid but they actually don't have it or claim to have it.

    I'm a bit rusty as far as Atari goes, but wasn't Air Raid re-released on any of the Atari 2600 Anniversary discs/carts or flashback console?

    • @pxlsicle
      @pxlsicle Před 8 lety

      +Chris Wilson (Fantom979) I'm going to guess you mean River Raid, a very popular activision title for the 2600, 5200, and probably more. I'm fairly certain Air Raid wasn't even known to exist until this century.

      +Chris Wilson (Fantom979) Just trying to clear it up since it has Raid in the title and River Raid definitely appeared on the activision packs. It wasn't to be condescending.

      +Ian Ferguson I understand, don't get me wrong. I'm just disappointed that there doesn't seem to be a legal way to play this without spending an arm and a leg. (Then again, I looked up a video of the gameplay and it looks like a Space Invaders clone, so I guess I'm not missing much...)

    • @totallyterrificpants6226
      @totallyterrificpants6226 Před 8 lety

      +Chris Wilson (Fantom979) It's said to be a bad game. There is a news report on here of a guy who sold his boxed copy for $31,600 and he said as a kid it was one of his least favorite games and none of his friends liked it, either.
      It's another example of a no name company releasing a bad game to get on the video game craze but they made barely a dozen, hence why collectors want it. Plus the odd shaped cart makes it an interesting display.

    "My deceased father-in-law just instructed me to paint and glue together this video game and slap a printed scan of the box on the front before selling it in his will.
    I didn't know that it's fake!"
    I do disagree on one point though,
    if the seller immediately apologized and delisted the item after someone told them it was fake,
    that would be fine in my eyes. Accidents happen. It's like if I bought a figure from some scumbag at a convention and was informed that it was fake once I tried putting it up for sale. And then i would proceed to throw the thing in the trash where it belongs. Of course, their self-destructive temper tantrum removes all doubt of their standpoint in this mess.

    This is absolutely amazing... I know what they're talking about in terms of "Cash Converters" and "EB Games". Cash Converters is a pawn shop and EB Games is GameStop for AUS.
    There are basically NO Old-School game stores in Australia. Getting it "Authenticated" is basically impossible here. They are idiotic.

    I had a very helpful guy come over to have a look at the cartridge and I allowed him to pull it apart , The Handle Broke tho. He pointed out there is a silver sticker it says menavision , on the reverse side there is a P label which he said its pal .
