    The groups are impressive but that seems to be the standard with your builds. The SD how ever on both was a little lack lustre. I’d be interested in seeing data over a 50 shot string from both

    Ill have to try this in my Anshutz Match 54. I used to shoot matches with .... chuckle.. Winchester Wildcats, and generally win either 1/2/3 place in every match, against guys shooting TenX. The firing line would be pop..pop..pop POP!... and everbody knew when I fired a round. It actually didnt care for TenX ammo....

    An interesting test of the new Long Range Lapua 22 Long Rifle.
    The long range 22 LR match I participate in has five steel targets from 165 to 400 yards so I'm always interested in any actual field testing of 22 LR's.
    Average velocity in this test was measured at 1072 fps. Lapua's website claims average MV of 1106 out of a 26 inch barrel. Your barrel is 24 inches. They provide no information on the SD of the MV. They show all their 22 - 40 grain bullets have the same BC of .172. The testing Bryan Litz did of 400 rounds of various Lapua offerings had an average BC of .150 with a SD of BC of .006.
    So far I haven't found any information from either Lapua''s website or anywhere else that explains why this ammo is better than than their other offerings at long range.
    It will be interesting to see how it shoots at 300 yards.

    Wow that's pretty nice. I used to live in Arizona. Phoenix, Glendale and Peoria for 3 till 27 but decided to move out to the boonies of U.P. of Michigan. I have plenty of space to shoot and hunt. What part of Arizona are you?
    Hey man I've been asking this question lately to people and was wondering if you could give me a brief summary of your opinion. I'm a really good shot but I'm not really that into the specifics of long range shooting. I've been trying to decide what would be the best rifle for practical use to put in my 60 liter backpack or strapped to it. Maybe that's not your thing but curious if you have ever tested any of those takedown barrel .22 rifles? I mean test for the limit of their accuracy. I was considering getting a Tactical solutions .920 barrel to put on a takedown Ruger 10/22 and get a BX trigger or maybe even a PRP trigger kit. I liked the idea of a Magpul X 22 backpacker stock. So lightweight and tucks away nice.
    I realize sport shooting is different than what my focus is but I'd like to get as accurate a rifle I can that's also packable ( or at least something I can securely strap to my 60 liter pack ). I'd want it to be as close to a target rifle as possible not considering human error. Keep in mind I'm not super into guns as a sport but just trying to do a lot of research on what tool will perform considering I'm skilled enough. I have 20/15 vision that runs in the family and my grandfather was a sniper in WW2. People say I inherited his depth perception. I've been a better shot than most people all my life without really trying that hard. I want to hone that natural gift a bit more but I'm pretty good. As an example I have harvested 2 to 4 white tail deer from 50 yards and in almost every year for the last decade with just some good 40 grain hollow point .22 LR ammo like Aguila, mini mags and stingers. Neck shot everytime lights out or a quick follow up shot just in case.
    Anyway those CZ 457 varmint guns I've heard are pretty accurate for not being a build. The ones with the heavier 16 inch barrels. 7 lbs is a bit heavier than the 3.9 lb Tactical solutions set up. I'm willing to put some money into whatever performs best. I'm hoping to find something I could stay within 1 or 2 inches at 100 yards. Also I'm noticing it seems 100 yards is the limit most people test .22 rifles but I've seen some people shooting rabbits, and even deer or coyotes, from 2 to 300 yards away. How is that possible? I'd think it would be too inconsistent but like I said I haven't gotten into long range tech and ammo just more familiar with 100 yards and in with rifles, shotguns and handguns.
    Anyway I know this description is long but I've just been asking as many people as possible the same questions. People that have spent more time in this area of expertise. If you could share your opinion I'd appreciate it or at least lead me in the right direction to people that are more refined in their understanding of this field. Thanks.

    • @EagleEyeShooting
      @EagleEyeShooting  Před rokem

      Abbreviation for standard deviation. Its a statistical calculation the chrono gives you based off the number count of shots. SD in regards to Chronograph speeds calculate your current handloads/factory ammo ability to stay within a certain velocity parameter. E.G: 1076 FPS with an SD of 6 means the rifle and ammo will shoot anywhere from 1070-1082 FPS. Lower SD's = more consistent velocity shot for shot

    I shoot ARA benchrest. At fifty yards and more the wind impacts the shot more than the shooter. You shooting with out wind flags between you and the target does not give a true measure of the potential of the ammo or the gun. The shots are not repeatable unless you know the winds the bullet will see. You can see the fliers at longer distances are almost always made when the wind is ruffling the target.

    • @EagleEyeShooting

      I guess us PRS shooters better go to Kmart and buy up all the lawn wind chimes, trinkets and flamingos and set them up every 10 yards in each stage.

    • @brucethecurmudgeon8538
      @brucethecurmudgeon8538 Před rokem +1

      @@EagleEyeShooting It is better to use wind chimes trinkets and flamingos than no wind indicators at all. You can not shoot in variable and gusting winds and determine the accuracy potential of the rifle or the ammo.

      @@EagleEyeShooting I do appreciate your gunsmithing skills. What you teach is import and and the care you take in your firearm construction is obvious. Since we learn from you maybe, just maybe, you can learn something from us to make you a better shooter. Understanding wind direction and its impact upon your shots might even prove you build a better rifle than you think and prove it with wind flags.

    • @deanrickvalsky7586
      @deanrickvalsky7586 Před rokem

      I think you are missing the point in that he shoot PRS and you don’t get to wait on the same wind. You have to shoot quickly. There for he is testing in a more realistic condition not a lab condition. Better to know what your ammo will do when the atmosphere has a hold of it. Beside the wind changes multiple times between you and 100 target. So how many spots along the way to you watch and how long before all of them repeat exactly as they did last shot. I’m betting that close to impossible. One may get close but one can’t really replicate quite the way presented it. Identical condition shot to shot is not wry achievable.
