    As someone that was born and raised in Brooklyn we have a similar rule for finding an authentic new york pizza: if the slice isn't dripping with oil from the melted cheese and the paper plate isn't see through then its just an imitation. Personal recommendations is Di fara on avenue J in Midwood, not sure about the other locations but this one is the original shop and they make amazing pizza, if you're a tourist who doesn't like the idea of going deep in Brooklyn cause of that "one bad experience a friend of a friend had" passing through the area then my other suggestion is Lombardi's on spring street in soho or Grimaldi's, they're both too touristy for me to frequent too often but they've been around for over a hundred years with Lombardi being officially the first pizzeria in America and Grimaldi being considered the best pizza in the city, I've been to both place quite a few times and they've earned their reputations. Remember if it ain't a brick oven its not new york style no matter how they market it

    • @roderickstockdale1678
      @roderickstockdale1678 Před 2 lety

      Di fara’s is the original what? And most New York pizza isn’t brick oven style, what are YOU talking about? The average slice comes from a high heated metal pizza oven of about 550 degrees and has not one piece of brick inside! And have you heard of Bertucci’s, they’re brick oven themselves and they’re up and down the coast and they’re not from New York either, as well the New Haven brick oven places are getting notice too. There’s one in DC that’s got lots of rave if you check it out you’ll probably think it tastes just like up north so don’t speculate guess that all brick oven pizza’s in New York, brick oven’s across the country. REAL New York style pizza’s in New York!

      @@roderickstockdale1678 reread what i said lil buddy: authentic new york style pizza is made with a brick oven, if its not brick oven its not true to nyc style, Di Fara has expanded to three locations and i stated that the one on Avenue J is the original and I have no personal experience with the other 3 locations.... I never stated Di fara was a original pizzeria, I never said that the *ONLY* thing unique to new york style pizza was a brick oven only that if you're going to be true to the style a brick oven is a must just like the tree pizzeria's I mentioned, I also never said that new york is the *ONLY* place to get authentic new york style pizza, anything else I can clear up for you before you start another nonsensical rant?

      @@roderickstockdale1678 you really need to chill and take time out to read what people are saying before responding. I prefer the old fashioned way when cooking and I only go to places I know keep to tradition, trust me when I tell you that traditional Italian restaurants and yes even pizzeria's use brick ovens, if they do not keep the traditions that their grandparents held on to then I don't have interest in eating there. My grandmother is originally from Florence and my grandfather is from Madrid, I learned the same recipes that they learned from their grandparents, I don't buy a can of tomato sauce and a back of Spaghetti or buy a plastic container of Sofrito, I make my own from scratch and trust me when I say you can taste the difference so when I go out to eat I expect the same care and love in their cooking as I do when I'm at home.

      @@emanuelmartinez7267 I hear you on the authenticity. Florence is northern Italy though! As we all know, pasta and pizza come from southern Italy(the Mezzogiorno). There’s not enough heat or climate in northern Italy to produce the kind of ripe tomato you need to make the best sauce, plus pasta and pizza were seen as southern food which was categorized as peasant food, cause though they eventually made allies here in America, the two regions never got along back in the old world, due to the north snubbing the rural south. The only dish they shared was macaroni which was accepted by the northerners I guess because it was small and could fit inside a bowl. The northerners ate starch and most of their dishes from bowls. The southerners used plates because they ate dishes that had to go on plates…don’t forget they serve a whole heap of food. Northerners were portion conscious, they ate dishes that could easily be placed in bowls. She must have grown up after the war.
