Hey, Puerto Rican here! Traditionally we make a "tea" that we add to the coquito, meaning "little coconut". This tea is made using about 2 cups of water, we add fresh ginger, cloves, star anise and some cinnamon sticks. All this is boiled down until it's 1 cup and the water has turned into a golden color. It is cooled down /strained and then added to the coquito. We also marinate raisins in rum for about an hour and you can add that as well,At the end we usually add pitoro , DQ or Palo Viejo white rum. Sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon, n nutmeg powder , always shake before serving (because the coconut thickens, cogulates. ects) pour in glass bottles ,use tiny cups to drink it from, last up to 6months with no eggs
Merry Christmas!... I just made this and just want to let everyone know that youre going to need that big bottle to store it in. It fit perfect with 1 &1/2 cups of Don q rum!😊 I added a tiny dash of nutmeg too..cant wait to have some later..thank you 💗💗💗
This is what I just had at home at the time, but when I buy the stuff to make it.. I use white 🙂 In this video, I use white to make it czcams.com/video/xvu3Iz2d1kY/video.html
It’s probably the cream of coconut making it thick. If you want it smoother, make the “tea” for it. Boil a cup of water with a cinnamon stick, 2 star anise and a few clovers
Hi 👋🏽 not claiming for this recipe to be a traditional, but a quick/ easy version. My family and I enjoy the cream of coconut. Makes it thicker and creamier 😋
None of us puertorriqueños make it 100% traditional so idk what you even mean. I’ve seen my fam use coconut cream all my life and to be honest leaving that out would suck. My fam also uses 1 egg yolk because… “puerto rican eggnog” right?! I don’t get it?!? if you say it’s not traditional lol why are you up in here watching the video? Make your own “traditional” coquito.

If I added food coloring for a themed party, would it mess the recipe up?? 😬
I’m honestly not sure 🤔 I would imagine if you didn’t put a lot it should be fine. Let me know how it works out!
Preferably Don Q*
Don Q and brandy for that extra kick

Why is that a mistake ?
Show us YOUR video, Sandra Perez
Thats what many use when doing an eggless recipe.
