Really love this tune, seems like you gave the tune a bluegrass kind of feel which really works. Amazing fiddle player, I’m currently learning this one at the moment. Hope I can be as good as you someday.
That's an interesting point of view, certainly a good one to throw into the ring of a fiddle forum, would generate quite a few responses, I would hazard a guess.
During the famine, a lot of the Irish came to Northumberland and County Durham. And some songs were mixed together with Irish songs. Though, The Morpeth Rant is older than that.
@@marvinthemaniac7698 Morpeth is a town in Northumberland. It's original name in Old English was Morð-Pæð, pronounced Morthpaeth; which means "Murder Path".
Well done. One of first fiddle tunes I learned 40 years ago, still one of my favorites. :)
It's a fantastic tune and certainly a good one to learn at the beginning.
Great playing, I want to hear it with a full band behind you!
That's a great, foot-tapping tune Chris! Well played!
I’m learning this on the whistle and using your video to learn it as I love the energy you play it with. It’s just the right tempo too!
That's great to hear, so glad the video is useful for you.
I’m learning this song in my violin class, and it was really nice to hear it played this nicely so I could know what it was supposed to sound like!
That's good news, thank you for letting me know, all the best with your violin class.
@@peakfiddler thank you!
A spirited rendition...I love playing along with this, just the right tempo.
I've heard it played quicker, but for me this speed seems just about right, glad you like it as well.

Where do you find the sheet music for this tune? i tried the link you provided in the description but it doesn't work.
Sounds similar to shetlandic folk music
Northumbrian fiddle tunes sound identical to Irish fiddle tunes, almost as if they were two sides of the same coin!

@@peakfiddler the same applies for Scottish and Cornish music since they're all Celtic in origin.

Hmm. Morpeth rant. I expected something a little angrier sounding I guess.
A "rant" is a dance step. It's particularly a northern English step.
@@timpillinger7549 And not a good one if you are waiting for a knee replacement!
