I have a feeling thugs in Arkham sign a waiver for their whole skeleton when they become a thug. You’re just asking for it in that case.
That's why I always wait for them to make first moves on my playthrough, from what I've seen, the ones just playing around will be the ones that run rather than fight.

The conversations are just as diverse and have alternate ways their voice change mid conversation when you interrupt them.
One of the most famous is when a goon says "What if I just turned around right now and saw-" and sees batman and his voice pitches up as he says "-BATMAN!"
It's really funny and gives so much life to the game which is why the Batman Arkham series is one of my favorites.

I've never played this game before, but when I play it, and inevitably hear this dialogue from a thug, I'll make sure to pick off all of his buddies in stealth, and just leave him. Keep his luck intact, but still let my presence be very known.

Rocksteady has some great attention to detail
I have noticed Arkham Knight's enemy AI is eons better new gen games like Spider man 2, thug in Arkham Knight help each other out while fighting Batman more of all they grab weapons, try to back up a fallen fellow thug, share weapons etc also the attention to detail is amazing I really hoped to see these kinds of things in Spider man 2 but the game only ran on hype, except for the traversal system Spiderman 2's traversal is amazing.

Rocksteady justified suicide squad feeling empty and dull because everyone in the city is either dead or escaped. In this game it's a similar setting with most of Gotham being evacuated but they still managed to make the city feel alive.
