I have owned my BMW 640d for just over a year and I felt it’s time to give an honest one year ownership review on the car!
In this video, I will be taking my BMW 640d to the garage and talk about the money I have spent on the car and the bills involved.
Overall the BMW 640d is an excellent car and I won’t be selling it anytime soon.
However if you are looking to buy a BMW 640d, I’d suggest you watch this honest one year ownership review, so you can see how much it will be to own/run, what sort of bills to expect and general common faults within the car!

@@Kevin-iw1xc Hey! Unfortunately I haven’t replaced the light. Instead, just living with it. They’re too expensive to replace! I did have a mechanic take the light apart, to see if there was any loose wires but he couldn’t spot any issues. Please let me know if you find a solution. P.S put the lights in manual mode and the issue will happen less often.

Honest review after 5 years..
Its an amazing car , after remap it’s enough powerful to enjoy driving.
Sporty and as well good mpg if on motorway.
Nice interior design qnd good overall look.
But.. nappa leather inside is to fragile, even small hit will make hole.
Run flats from factory are to harsh but non run flat are to soft in my opinion, car loosing to much sharpness.
Pilot sport 4 non run flat and car is unstable when more than 90-100mph.
Cost of tyres UK 20inch 245/275 £320 for one .. so huge cost about this as well .
I loved that’s car but I sold it and bought 370z ;D

I bought a Gran Coupe 640d this year, my first BMW and the best car I’ve ever had. I have the window issue, I’ll be lubing them thanks to your video. My seatbelts don’t retract into the seat smoothly, apparently a quick spray with silicon lubricant will fix that easy. Enjoy the car, they’re amazing machines.
Hey, thanks for the comment. Has the lube around the window worked for you? Mine just needs re-lubing every 3-4 months (not the end of the world) glad you like your GC, they are absolutely fabulous cars! I’ve just had a baby, so will most likely be selling this and will be getting a GC like yours. My seatbelt retracts smoothly, however it needs a good tug to pull it out. Not as smooth as the passengers side 🤔
@@BobbyDrivesHave a 1 year old and the 640d GC is perfect. U most certainly do NOT need an estate. Trust me, the boot is more than big enough, just have to show your wife that cause she won't believe u 😂
Guys, dont lube your windows, justlube your engine and change your crankshaft bearings if you are over 150.000 km, or prepare 10-15k€ for new engine.
Haha thanks. Wife’s changing her car to a more practical car for our baby. So I’m okay for a while in the coupe. But will be changing it in the next 6 months. The boot on both GC and coupe are very generous!
Yep, definitely lube the engine too! And do it regularly. The more you do, the better it will be in the long run
Get yourself bimmerlink. You could have cleared the parking camera error yourself. It's handy to have as the sensors on the 6 are very sensitive and something silly that needs clearing will come along soon. SOS failure is another. That can be coded out with bimmercode rather than replacing the module in the boot.
Also changing the oil every 8 to 10k is essential to avoid stretched timing chains and bottom end failure. The recommended intervals are far too long
Thanks for the tips! I have this Carly adapter and I’ve been clearing fault codes with that. They still come up time to time. But yes, glad you agree with the more frequent oil change 😊
Beautiful car and still looks like it’s worth 60-70k. Defo prefer this over a new shape a7 or cls. Buying myself a facelift 640i gran coupe as soon as I find the right spec

FYI - The cameras are under the wing mirrors and badge at the rear which give the surround view

Bloody hell not a lot has changed then! I've got a 2004 previous shape 6 series (645Ci) and oh my days there's been so much go wrong with the electrics on that, half the issues like the window and the seat thing I've also experienced! Good video man and I must admit the F series 640 does look really nice 👌

Driver seat is the white Bush under the seat on the cross beam. It will require a bit of packing

Hey Bill, great car for the money! Only catch is, if you get a diesel (640d) before 2016, you’ll have to pay the extended ULEZ charge, if you’re within the M25. After 2016, they are compliant. Petrol is fine of course, regardless of the year. Hope that helps 👍🏼
@@BobbyDrives I was looking at a 2012 model with 75k for 12899. Jist the spec and performance for that money seems mental. A 520d comes in more expensive. Was looking to see if they have any crazy issues like the gear box or something. It seems like a winner.
Been also looking at these and been surprised by the prices. A lot of low mileage examples about in very nice condition for prices which seem too good to be true (even 2016+ (euro6 ulez compliant). For all the car you get, to pay in the range of 18k for a car that's done less than 60k miles seems way too good. Been wondering if there's issues with them or what. Eyeing up either a 640d or CLS350d, 640d is winning on many fronts
I wonder if it's a lower demand thing especially comparing to the 5 series point above.
@@ismail548 it's odd. I suppose they not the most practical either. The ulez issue kicks in in glasgow in June which rules out any diesel older than 2016 petrol is fine from 2007 however.

I have the choice between a 2015 and a 2017, both have pretty much the same option that I like, but one is 30 000 and the 2017 33 000€.
Would you recommend going for a 2017? Both have done 90 000 kilometers

Lol, every SINGLE thing you mentioned in this video I have in my old 2012 6 series 😮 very common issues! Even the seat did the same and the seat use to wiggle… ps where is your front lip from
Haha thanks and sorry for the late reply. Definitely sounds like common issue, based on other comments on this video too. BMW should have offered recalls for this. The front lip is from Maxton Design 👍🏼
1:27 how did you do speakers covers on silver I want it as well on mine f12
If you have the Bang & Olufsen sound system, then you get this silver trimming on the speakers. It an optional extra 👍🏼
what's the bodykit fitted on this bad boy? do you know if it's compatible with the 2015 LCI version (post-facelift?) great car!
Hey Jacob, thanks for the comment! It’s a kit from Maxton Design. In my opinion, it transforms the car, makes it look a little more aggressive but not stupidly over done if that makes sense. And yes totally compatible with the facelift. Let me know how you get on! 🙌🏼

I don't think the windows are a fault, it just offers more control over them without needing to constantly touch the button to have the windows ajar
No, the windows are definitely a fault. They shouldn’t keep coming down like this.

@@steve_1313 just some general lubrication around the window. Don’t use wd40 though.
Great car the 640d, performance and fuel economy is fantastic, very pleased with my 2015 F13 model.
I agree with the more frequent oil servicing too.
Why does he keep taking both hands off the steering wheel as he's driving though.

Hi Biki, no the steering wheel is very light in this car. It has a bit of weight to it, which is a nice feeling. But overall, light and pleasant feel 👍🏼

Yep, sound like common issues. However, the passenger seat thing is a killer! Got my mother in law trapped in there once 😂

you have an amazing car ! bmw makes some of the best engines, however, the electronic issues are a real pain in the butt, and its all due to the use of biodegradable plastics used in many of its components. thanks to climate activists.
Hey Salah, thank you so much! Appreciate it. Yep, I couldn’t agree with you more. Cheap plastics! I also own an old 1990 Mercedes 500SEL which was built to last. Everything still works in the car, due to using better and more durable materials.

Hey bro, I’d still say it’s comfortable compared to its competitors in the same range. I’ve driven quite a few others brands of cars similar to this and I’d say the 6 series was the smoothest. Even more than a e class Mercedes coupe. Haha sounds like we have similar cars! I’ve also changed my steering wheel to the new lci one. Upgrades the interior instantly!
