I have always loved this song, haven’t seen this version by Billy, I have seen his 2021 cover of Wharf Rat, at the Columbus Theater dozens of times, it was the first BMFS song I finally clicked on it & wanted to see this version. I get chills when I hear this song. The GD album I have with this on, is Europe 72.

I guess I can see how someone might see and hear Jerry (or Page, Bonamassa, Tommy E., whoever), and think, well, if they can do it, then it is possible, and I can do it. But ... BUT ... wherever did Billy find the gumption to decide he was going to wail as hard as Jerry did on electric, yet he would do so while playing acoustic, still with all the speed and bends, and tone. I was told that Billy is no longer playing Dead covers because he was being booked as a Dead cover band. Is this true? His fans are overlapping because of his amazing guitar talent but I just saw him and zero dead covers. Great show either way, but I would have cum in my pants if he played Wharf Rat.
I've seen him 44 times since 2021. He was playing one or two Dead songs every gig or so.. then one day he played with Bobby and it all just stopped. Fact!

He had all these dead heads coming to shows and yelling gd requests and it pissed him off a bit. He decided he didn’t want to be known for that. But he absolutely covered dead better than anyone I have ever heard by far.
