I could listen to this guy all day. Knows what he’s talking about. Proper professional.
Love these last 2 fit videos with riders that are “crooked”. Struggled for years. Pain, tears, stagnated performance, sores, pelvic tilt, back pain, even a bit of disability. Narrow stance, arch support, cleats back, 7mm shim on left. Finding incredible power and symmetry ive never experienced. Still out of shape, but moving forward finally.
which type of back pain did u have? one sided? and hip pain too? Im in the same problem and dont know what to do moore. My right leg feel totally asymetrical and left one is totally ok. And have right hip pain :) it would be perfect if you could answer me here.
@@hudydas single sided left lower back, which progressed to SI joint pain.
@@joelsoto1849 similar experience, in the end i just had my saddle slightly too high. I was dropping my hip to compensate.
@@abedfo88 great to hear. I spent a long time in pain. One side turned off, and the compensation got extreme. Even when i appeared symmetrical, strength was so poor on 1 side, foot would wiggle on climbs, resulting in body heavily lean on other. More pain. Months of work off bike and shimming, and short rides. Finally have strength bilaterally.
@Joel Soto great news for you also. Luckily I had practically last year off due to having a baby so my cycling muscles kind had time to rest.
In the end to figure out it was my saddle height I kept a journal of incremental changes and their effect.
I've also done some of the bike work stretching etc.
It was real pleasure to see a professional at work. Especially: I love the way how you communicate what you see, what and why you are changing the things👍
There's absolutely nothing better than watching a master at work. No wasted movement, instant ability to diagnose anatomical issue, formulate the appropriate solutions and see instant improvements.
Love the real bike fits. It shows the real clinical reasoning behind the process. It stops people just stabbing in the dark to fix their issues.
I have had bike fits in the past. But they never accounted for my asymmetry stemming from a slight leg length difference stating the difference is in the normal range. However, I know that I drop my left hip, my left knee almost touches the top tube and I always have saddle discomfort on the left. If Neill wasn't literally on the other side of the globe, I'd certainly book a session with him.
Same... I also walk with the difference in knee angle/leg length. It's the main reason I don't enjoy running, because it feels totally off. My left leg has really strong plantarflexion due to the shorter leg while my right leg has weak plantarflexion(shows on the bike too), so running uphill my right leg is like a noodle while it takes the brunt in other scenarios.
This guy speaking is perfect to listen and understand a bit of the bikefit world. He embed his actions with real knowledge as he speaks. Really a joy to see him working.
These videos are absolutely awesome! Seeing all the things that Neill picks up and adjusts for is pretty cool.
another brilliant video!!!!!!!!!!! thanks mate. i learnt heaps of this video
Loved you narrating the process. Thanks.
I would love to see a long term evaluation, from initial fit to a season later. How long ago did you switch Cam from 172.5 to 165 cranks - I would like to see where he is now on the bike if he’s not as restricted at the hip. This case is another interesting one because of all of the asymmetry. Over the next season or two we could see if skeletal alignment changes muscle development.
We'll make it happen. Cheers for the suggestion Ed
Follow-ups are the most neglected uncovered thing anywhere - you're not alone.
Another fantastic and highly informational video. Thank you and please keep them coming.
Just fantastic video. I feel like I need another fit now. Bravo team.
Thank you. Your videos are very enlightening.
Incredibly interesting. So generous in the advice here. Thanks for letting us see this.
Wonderful video. I've seen all there is with Neill on Cam's channel but there's always something new and beneficial to pick up.
Great video as usual. Really like the attention you give to the rider and the explanation why you do what you do. It makes so much sense!
I'm riding an SQ Labs saddle because of a previous video with Neill. It did the trick for me. Thanks so much. Enjoyed this video as well.
Neill your expertise is legendary and this video has been HUGELY informative for me. Thanks!
Hey this is really interesting and informative, thanks! It would be great to see a follow up and to hear from Alicia about her experience in the days and weeks following these changes.
Heck of a job Neill. So many would benefit from one of your comprehensive fits.
Thanks for bringing us along. The changes you implemented, made a lot of sense.
I am quite certain this woman could drop me. 😊 Her position now looks dialed.👍
The latest specialized torch s- works road shoes are great for dialing in foot position, with a built-in lateral wedge and different sized arch insoles, for a molded feel and zero discomfort. I was a Sidi guy since the 90's but tried these out and what a world of difference.
Awesome to watch. I wish there were more bike fitters with such an amount of competence and experience out there. Watching a master craftsman at work is just so rewarding. I was expecting you to suggest a SMP saddle tho 😂😂.
Keep up the great work 👍
Thanx to you Neill I am sitting better on my bike I got me a selle smp saddle. It's great. Less problems with shoulders and neck and I got me a variable stem. For the first time since I had 3 car crashes on the hiway I am able to cycle more than 50km without getting sick afterworth. So I am happy. And it's all because of all your great bike fitting video's. Thank you Neill‼️
I had a fit done 27 years ago but my GP was present which was a great help as he knew a lot about my health .
Bloody amazing, 1 hour to fix. 20 years experience to working out what to fix. If I won the lottery the first thing I'd do would be to book my flight from the UK! I've got one leg at least 10mm longer than the other.
the way neil tells you what he is doing to you as he does it is so good.
Fantastic how much we can learn from you Neill and RCA it shows 90% of cyclists should have a bike fit before any damage is done Thank you.
Great video Neill! If you see this rider again in the near future, I would love to see the body adaptations, if any, after all these changes.
Great content. Thanks!
i have watched so many bike fit videos that i was able to give myself an almost exact fit on my peloton, to the point when i did my pro Peloton bike fit i barely had to change anything. I would love to see a channel like this do an indoor cycling fit video.
More of this style video! Excellent
I really like your videos Neill. Really good information that we all can use to be better educated when we work with our own "Bike Position Physicians"! Cheers from Canada Mate
Brilliant--keep this content coming!
Neil is the man !!! Congrats mate
Very informative without any chit chat.
This is brilliant content.
Fantastic content as usual, Neill. Thanks for sharing! +1 to your point towards the end regarding soft tissue adjustment - I recently learned this the hard way. Hard to believe that after many many years of cycling that there's any virgin tissue left down there, but damn is there ever!
Lol I thought I was imbalanced damn! The funny thing is the body compensates and still gets it done. I really love how he is so professional and able to communicate what changes and why.
Brilliant Neill. Yes, i can actually see what you are achieving now. She looks brilliant, like you say.
I would recommend everyone come to see you - world class impact on the athlete
Great video, tnx Neil ! I have basically the same physical difference as she has. 12mm shorter left leg, 47/53 % left-right power distribution even with the equivalent of a 6.4 ml shim under my left foot.
48/52% for me, 7mm shim under left foot. No idea if i was born or my habits cause the asymmetry. Waiting for 12 month update on this fit by Neil.
Neil is a bike fitting wizard.
Great video and great bike fit. Would be nice to see if the changes have worked.
I am having major issues at the moment with having to constantly adjust on the saddle like my butt is walking around the surface, I was a seasoned cyclist, 8000+ miles per year for a decade and never had any notable issues but took just over a year off and have just come back and it is obvious something is really off. I had my leg length checked and the right is shorter by about 9mm as the crow flies, also feeling like I am twisted so the my right sit bone is sitting forward. Just going through the motion to see what works, have some shims coming later today.
Bike fit is a obvious option but locally they are booked up for weeks, hopefully I can get close before a pro looks at me and then get back to being able to get my hours and mileage up. Looking back it was also why I would love to trail run but hated running on the road, off road you are never on a flat surface and it confirms why I was getting left leg pain on tarmac. Sadly I am finding this out at middle age!!!!...
Neil when are you coming ou tour around Europe to get some fittings for forlks over here?
Great work. Thx for sharing. I'd also like to see a follow-up in 12mths.
This makes me want a bike fit
Well done Neill 👍
Neill is one of the most willing and knowledgeable fixtures in YT. The other is in England
Subscribed! Awesome video…wow ….he’s good
Damn … that is a pretty incredible work over
That was beautiful to watch Neil. I would be a fun full week project I'd reckon. Old, fat, full of arthritis, dodgy left shoulder from collarbone break, dodgy ankle, dodgy knee and lots of other fun stuff. I'd love to ride more comfortably but I'm just happy to get out and ride when i can.
Excellent
Great job, nice to look.
Have a question: why arch is so important? Why it needs to be with preasure?
I always thinking about foot like a bride, it works like that isnt it? Wen we walk or run arch never touch the grond its working more like bride, or like spring. So why its need to be supported in cycling?
When I first saw this dude, It's like you know when you know. So when I look for bike fit stuff. I look, but, judge it by Neill. The guy is spot on. I now don't bother to look for another opinion at all. If I need to now something, I find it on his channel. simple.
Nice video Neil. I am struggling with my knicks wearing out due to them rubbing on the seat clamp on my Merida Reacto. Is there anything you suggest I should do?
Great vid.
Is it me or @9:11 the rear wheel isnt dished properly in the frame and sits more to the right seat stay?
same. I was curious if the frame has some asym design or something??
N, love your vids. I'm about the same sit bone width... Whats the width of the SQLab saddle?
As a long time user of the Sq-Lab saddle I've now swapped to a SMP due to my soft tissue never having gotten properly used to the very localised pressure distribution of the SQ-lab design. First couple hours feel always perfect but especially on multi-day events the tissue over the sitbones just becomes a total mush and agony to ride on. I would be interested to know if other experience the same issues?
Love Neill !! Id love a bike fit from him! Bit too far away tho :D
Would love to add some ideas from point of view of a neuro physio, specially regards muscle recruitment in the trunk and looking at the variance in muscle bulk of medialis and gastroc..
Impressive analysis and fit, wish more bike fitters could provide such a quality fit but it's like the Wild West out there.
Which method(s) do you recommend to validate id there is a leg length discrepancy?
Other than taking a radiography. My friends case, I believe one leg is shorter since when laying down on the back knees bent, just alike the Girl in the video there is a drop, and a scoliosis as well. But on the bike it's impossible to gauge anything wrong. Also when laying down, both legs extended... Both legs look now the same size.
My legs are definitely off in where the muscle is building. I have had two knee surgeries and my bad knee is much stronger on the inner quad. How to adjust to activate the outer quad?
I’ve gotten several bike fits. Never felt like I got this level of service. Always feel like I’m gotten a decent fit, but not nearly as comprehensive. Not much has ever changed but stem length and height.
I’m having an issue with my left quad. I ruptured my right Achilles in 2016. I have been riding in groups for a year and general/serious riding for 3 years. Can you help me determine what is the cause of my cramps. It usually occurs at that 28 mile point on group rides.
Neill, how would you compensate for a 1cm leg length difference that's in the femur? I'd love to do a fitting with you, but I'm in the US. Thanks for any help and feedback!
Question to Neill. After a series of your videos, I purchased the G8 insoles and can't seem to adjust it. The G8 says to move the arches further forward to get "springiness", but in this video you move arches as far back as possible. Could you explain how to adjust it and what to look for. Any advice would be very helpful. Thank you.
I look for a full spread of upwards pressure from the rear of the arch to the front. The module should finish just behind the first metatarsal and conform steadily to the arch the whole way along. - N
@@roadcyclingacademy6476 Thank you!
Hi, please update how the bike fit affected on her riding. Hopefully all the discomfort was fixed.
Great video! Which sqlab saddle model are you using? Is it the 612 active 2.1 ? I am riding the 612 active but the first model, do you reckon the 2.1 is better/improved?
Yeah the new 2.1 - it's not significantly different so don't stress - N
Looking forward to a follow-up to see the progress after 6 months or so. Really enjoyed the before and after job on Abdullah Zeinab!
Great video. I was engaged the entire time.
maybe first visit to chiro too and then some bikefit (if person never been to chiro). Pro riders possibly go to visit them regularly.
I would love to find someone with this level of bike fitting skill in the CT, MA, RI area of the United States. Lots of bike shops that do fittings, but not proper phisio's. As someone with disc damage in my lower spine, it would be amazing to have a fit of this quality/level!

@@tsd4609 Unfortunately, Austin is about 1900 miles (3000km) from me, so not much of an option. I do appreciate the assist, though!
Why have a seat post with set back and then push the saddle right forward?
Can you please share some data about her height and inseam ? Thanks
Nice video. Good to see how G8 fitted.
But which saddle and saddle width were prescribed?
SQLab 612 Ergowave active 150mm or 160mm?
Video thumbnail says +7mm so 143mm to 150mm?
The 7mm probably refers to the shim stack height. I imagine that the saddle is 150 because the previous one is 143 and thus not wide enough.
We trialled a 13cm and a 14cm SQ labs 612 Active and in the end settled on the 14cm model I believe. So far so good - Alisha is no longer in pain there at least! - N
Oh thanks for your reply!
Original saddle was 143mm (I think Specialized Mimic?) then SQLab 14cm
Interesting that the width was reduced but provides better support by the shape.
@@BarePotato This is because the saddle profile (wavy vs flat) can provide more or less sitting area.
Where can I buy those arch supports? I have the same problem as Alisha... Ok never mind. I found them but they are damn expensive.
Pro at Work.
Did you change the fore and aft on the cleats?
Can't recall - perhaps slightly? -N
I assume this was before bay crits and nationals where she had some nice results
Yes, it was Matthew. Good pick up.
I wonder what was it that made you decide to shorten the reach/stem and drop the height of the handlebar?
It was mainly because the reach was too long and there wasn't enough drop to the bars - N
Neill Sir, ive started to assist riders here in Israel, to set them self on the bike, by your methods. I wish to thank you!
Could you link to the bolts you are using for the shims? Currently struggling to find a good solution for myself
Go in build market and do it choice
@@pravyj huh?
@@rhysashpole Go to a hardware store and buy 7mm bolts with a 3mm wrench
If I can ask a question:
Isnt that bike frame too big and the stem too short for her?
Cheers and thank you!
The bike is a 52cm Factor O2 with a 110mm -17deg stem. For the next season, we asked for a 49cm frame (next size down) so she can run the integrated cockpit they come with at 120mm. The drop ends up almost identical and so does the reach, and the sponsors are happy because she's using the supplied gear - win/win situation! -N
@@roadcyclingacademy6476 Tremendously Spot On !

7mm!!!!
Neil is the best. I have a client that I’m going to see if they are ever coming down under. If so…
This bloke really knows his shit, my only regret is that he's up in QLD. Neill I bet you'll get tons of demand if you 'tour' through Straya!
This bike was really easy to assemble czcams.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.
I feel like I have the same problem (((
Is there anyone like this in Melbourne?
Tommy Nankervis. You'll find him on Instagram. instagram.com/tommynankervis/?hl=en he does it on the side
glad you mentioned the bars. looks too wide for her
1:14 - " the right arch is higher than the left one"
2:22 - "your right arch is lower than your left"
please, can you decide which one is higher/lower? :-)
thanks & regards,
Mircea
I'm dyslexic so I mix them up. Plus most of the time I'm just guessing randomly anyway :-) - N
A lateral pelvic tilt will present these exact symptoms without there being any physical asymetries in the body. Strengthening the right glute max and left adductor will actually square the pelvis, even out the arches. the leg length shim is suddenly no longer necessary. The shim will act as a crutch and not allow the body to learn to function in the correct muscle pattern. Also the stem is too long.
How can someone be a semi-pro?
A shame you live in Australia. I could do with a pro like you in Spain.
Wide feet = wide seat bones??? Skeletal question???
Are you talking about the rider or the bike
Hello. You are doing it wrong with shims. Upper leg length difference should be solved with different crank lengths L to R and no shims. Shims only artificially rise one side and do not change the pedaling dynamics L to R
