Wowowow this version sounds like a single tracked Brian lead and it's, just wow, stunning. Brian sometimes, even though it's crazy to consider, doesn't get his due as a singer. He's literally one of the GREATEST of all time.

This came out in early 1965, so it must have been written in 1964, listen to the harmonies and chord-changes, Brian´s composing was far ahead of his time!

@@oldiesgeek454 yes, it was a B-side, but I was correcting OP in saying that it came out in early 1965 when it was actually released as the B-side to When I Grow Up a year prior, meaning that it was most likely both written and released in 1964

Yeah it was recorded on the 5th & 8th of August 1964 and released as a B side to When I Grow Up to Be a Man on the 24th of August, fast work!
Favorite beach boys song, I’ll never get tired of it…just pure beauty
Pretty crazy to hear this. The final produced version of this song covers up a lot of the vocal work by the guys. Quite amazing harmonizing that you don't really get to hear the full effect on the final track.

I have been a Beach Boys fan since I was 15 yrs.And this song is one of my all time favorite love songs by Brian Wilson . His Falsetto voice was so incredible.And this was one of the songs I sang to a girl that I went out on a date with .And she was so touched ,when I sang this song to her .She kissed me and hugged me a lot that night . Brian Wilson is extremely Talented,and is a Genius .Tim.

Eerie-sounding yet soulful--in this song, Brian has the voice of an angel! (Back in 1964, he could still hit the high notes.)
As Brian observed in a December 1976 interview in New York City:
"Songs are the most honest form of human being there is--there's nothing that lies about a song." That's timelessly true. At last, I'm privileged to hear the undubbed, "raw" version of this classic BB tune.

Brian was still hitting the high notes in the 90's and 00's, they just did not sound like the voice of his youth.

Without Mike’s part this song would be lacking, I love his baritone. Don’t argue with me.
Mike's leads are hit and miss for me, but his bass/baritone parts are ace.
Brian used to be a great falsetto singer in his youth, and his falsetto played a major role in the Beach Boys' early success.

@@jmeshel1 I just listened to the four songs. Words really cannot explain the internal joy I experienced listening to these renditions. As a young boy, I poured myself out listening to side B of The Beach Boys TODAY lp. A 10 year old, in love with the girl who wasn’t interested in him. Brian’s vocal yearning and the Boys execution of his harmonic chords sent me to a beautiful place that is understood by you. Your want and need to keep these particular BRIAN classics alive tells me so. Thank you for your dream and giving us all a fresh breath of yesterday’s dream.
