    Just bought a Twin yesterday.. For a lot of us coming from a developing economy, owning a Fender to start with is a dream. I imagine myself in my 60s when I finally put my feet up and retire, still playing the Twin just at a lower volume 😀

    I just purchased the Vintage ‘65 Twin Reverb, and I love this amp. I have two strats, a ‘98 left handed strung right handed, my favorite by the way and a Hendrix artist series. They both sound great through the Marshall’s but the Twin and Stratocasters together? Heavenly!
    The’65 Twin Reverb improved my sound by ten billion percent.
    Let me tell you, this baby packs a punch, a little on the heavy side, nonetheless a quality product in construction, sound and design. I would have preferred an option for handles on the side though.
    A Vox V846 handwired wah, a univibe and sometimes Fuzz Face lets me zero in on my own unique sound. I’m looking forward to experimenting with other pedals in the near future because this amp is so user friendly with pedals.
    Just talking about it got me itching to plug in! Fender, you have a great amp! Keep up the amazing work!

I remember the Twin and the Dual Showman tube amps back then. Greg Howe played a HM Strat trough a Dual Showman stack. Robin Trower played Dual Showmans too. Once you get it to 5 or 6 you're hitting 110 to 112 dB peaks in the immediate vicinity. It's not that loud under 3, I certainly believe Paulo when he said a sound tech wouldn't let him turn it up past 2, because some sound techs are like that, but that's asinine in my opinion, a Twin on 3 is not that loud. Long story short, gig volume on a Twin is typically between 3 and 4.

    • @paulojrg
      @paulojrg Před 3 lety +1

      @@johnballantyne3458 Yes you're right some are a quite asinine as you put it, I used to practice at home around 1¾, 2 during the day and 3, 4 in a band environment without miking of drums, but the space in which you play also has much influence in the volume you're allowed to reach, this was because I was fortunate enough to be able to rehearse at an old church converted into a theatre and the place was huge there was almost no need for the inboard reverb, but you can never have too much reverb nor too slow of a tremolo.
      One day I had a friend sound technician at a gig in an old theatre where we reach an agreement to only have drums and voice coming through the sound system and my Twin was on 11 with the 6,6,6 eq. The owners of the venue said that they never heard anything so loud but I assure you it was glorious, the place seemed like a acoustic guitar body where everything resonated - they didn't allow me to play at that volume for the gig though.
      Somewhere down there is a description of what I've did to my Twin to tame it now that I don't play anymore outside the house, the sound still great.

    My '65 BF Twin serial number is AC039420 so it was born in March 1990. First run of the Reissue series. I got it in 2010. I'm the second (and last) owner of the amp. I think I know this amp really well. I changed a lot of tubes and tried different combinations, I did the "1 speaker half power" mod and other reversible mods. I recorded songs in studio with it. I can litteraly disassemble and rebuild this amp. This is a good demo don't get me wrong but...
    ..tell me how could you stand so close to a '65 Twin and use it at "volume 8.5, treble at 6.5 and treble switch on" without earplugs or other kind of protection. I'm serious.

    I've never figured out the Twins are incredibly loud thing. LIke many of you, I"ve had a slew of 50-100 watt amps (with various speakers) and they're almost ALL loud, and 2-12 tube combos from any make are heavy. I used to play with a pair of Super Twins (180 watts), so 320 watts into a pair of 4x12 cabs. Loved the sound but sucked toting all that stuff around. Now I use a pair of Fender PRRI's in stereo which sound wonderful, but not like the Twins were. Load in/out is much easier though.

    They are an amplifier of distinction and high, rich top end tone ~ especially for melody/single note playing, a lead guitarist's amp par excellence. They are also a very heavy amp to lift and shift around. My band mate has one, I recall it weighed more than my blues deville (50 lbs/23kgs). I would estimate his amplifier being a post 1976 version, it felt like it weighed 60lbs/30kg. He now has a slipped disc in his back and was getting around in a wheelchair immediately after the injury.

      @@JeserNoob The injury occurred due to lifting the amp in and out of vehicles (along with an accordion + guitars) and perhaps also due to lack of overall fitness and general health.

    🤔 If only for the sake of your lumbar disks Fender did this amp in head and speaker format with just the "vibrato" channel an attenuator in the back (half the power would also be a viable option) and a 2x12" separate speaker cabinet. I wouldn't part with mine though but could add this new version.
    I play mine with only two power valves and tried to disconnect on speaker to match the impedance but it's not the same. My attenuator are my pre amp tubes swapping the 12AX7's for AT's, AU's it sounds great and best of all you can crank it without getting ear damage. It still weights a ton tough.

      Just play it at 1 or 2 and don’t use boost pedals for long periods of time and you will be fine. Just got one and haven’t had one noise complaint so far in my apartment.
      When you play with a band just turn up to 3 to 5 and everything still sounds the same at home just louder

    What's happening with Fuse? Is everything getting taken offline like the presets and all? I really hope not. I just bought a Mustang II. I know I can use Remuda but without all the custom presets, it's not as useful I would think.

    • @JS-nf1sn
      @JS-nf1sn Před 4 lety

      I don't think so. I have one, and I'm still able to download presets. If that Mustang is new, make sure you wait to judge it until the speaker is broken in. I did not like most of the stock presents, but you there are tons of options with the editor.

      @@JS-nf1sn I just looked and fuse preset website is gone. 🤷‍♂️ They're not online anymore. That sucks. I can't get the bonus amp models and fx pedals now. Nor can I get any custom made presets.
      fuse.fender.com/mustang/presets/?sort=title&limit=15&page=731
      It takes you to support instead of presets.
      Once you see this, you need to email Fender and complain. Tell them how badly they screwed up. Especially right now when people aren't gonna go out and replace their amp because Fender killed their Mustang 1-5 amp. The country is at a standstill and they thought the best thing to do was kill thousands of amps without a 2nd thought. It's bs.
      I'm sure that's why they killed the forum, too. They didn't want to deal with the backlash from everyone complaining that their amp lost all of its functionality because they killed Fuse. So they killed the forum.
      I already emailed customer service to complain. As a first time fender owner, I doubt I'll ever buy another one after this. Not if this is the type of 'support' I can, expect. Imagine if Ford stopped supporting a car 3 years after they stop production. The auto industry would tear them a new one. But Fender thinks it's ok. LOL!
