George Benson on the Fender GB Twin Reverb | Fender
/ fender - Hudba
I met Mr. Benson in his studio in Hawaii shortly before it opened, and I can tell you that the room contained only Fender amps. He doesn't need the money - Fender is fortunate to have his endorsement.
I just wish Mr. Benson would share his talent with the public more often; George - if you are reading this - please do a tour of jazz clubs and theaters and go back to your roots!
he's only worth a max of $5 million. and that's not liquid. he's remarkably poor when it comes to renown musicians. i'd say he could use the money and it's that and pride why he's doing this.
@@carl-ok9gn only 5 million lol. Funny how that's poor from a certain perspective lol
I used to use a Fender Twin Reverb. They're heavy--about one pound per watt output (80). A good 100-watt output alternative amp is Fender's Tonemaster Twin, less than 40 lbs.
Reverb is not a gimick it's a necessity"
I am with ya George
Ya tru dat.
Ive been playing many years I heard Benson before I heard Wes, Pass and others. Even all these years later I'm still amazed at Benson's ability. He seems so genuine and real. He never disrespects other musicians regardless of the talent difference. You can tell he loves the guitar and still have the passion for it after all these years. He's my all time favorite player, the way he phrases, the speed, the creativity it's all there for us to learn from and to admire. What an iconic figure, a true living legend.
He's sort of the Eddie Van Halen of the contemporary jazz genre; such a joy to listen to and his amiable persona just makes the music better.
@@recklessrocker1096 Agreed.
that jacket goes all the way to 11
And it can’t be touched
This video should be an hour long.
you bet
+ALT3REDB3AST Fender, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase!!!! Do this!
Agree.
Could fall asleep with my back against the speaker, with George's voice coming out of it :-)
2 hours long!
This guy is awesome. Pure class.
When George speaks, people listen. Always mesmerizing.
I love hearing him talk!
His voice is so relaxing...
Jazz guitar Icon. Bar none. Blew me away when I first heard Breezin' as a kid. And after all these years, GB still inspires me today with his smooth, fluid playing. Great to see him with signature amps now. Well deserved!
This man is a living legend... Grateful to hear the man speak
What a national treasure. We are blessed to have Mr, Benson.
George Benson has to be THE youngest 74 year old dude I've ever seen. He looks barely over 40.
OMG he really does look way younger then he is!
Nah he looks 70
Not that it matters, but he did have plastic surgery some years back and got a nose job. If you look at his pics from earlier years before the 1990s, his nose was totally different, which means he probably opted for a face lift at some point, but he does still look great and plays even better still. Great musician that folks don't realize outside of die hard fans of his genre of music. Absolutely amazing talent.
I noticed plastic surgery years ago, I always wondered why he did that. Nose jobs are common among celebrities.
no alcohol, no drugs and i think he is very religious (jehova witness)
What a charismatic gentleman. Humble and grateful, not despite his artistry but because of it. The mark of every master.
So effortlessly! What a legend!
Great little spotlight on George. Loved listening to him play and talk.
God bless you Mr. Benson, the gift you have has been an inspiration to millions upon millions sir.. I have always loved your music, you are still a critical element to my inner ear I play towards Each and every time I play my own guitars. I just purchased a twin reverb tone Master last week, and I know what you are saying about playing your acoustic and expecting it to sound the same when amplified. I want my electric instruments to deliver that same tone of natural beauty that rings warm & true and also full of those natural emotional elements. Stay blessed Mr. Benson, and thank you for your signature series and collaboration with the Fender organizations sir.
I met George once in 1992 when he toured to Argentina and got his signature; he is a very very humble guy, not to mention his technique. He played 10 times better in live situation than his studio recording CDs that time
really enjoy his tone and the passion and love he has and what he does
Wow,what a brilliant and highly talented entertainer.George I’s the one jazz player I never tire of listening too
Awesome, wish I had one. Mr. Benson is one of the very great guitarists of our time for sure.
A true gentleman, fantastic musician, playing through the most versatile amp in the world.
I was just thinking of Geo Benson ... wondering where he was ... Love seeing him and especially hearing him ... God Blees G.B.
What he says at 3:53 should serve as a reminder to all guitarist about going from acoustic to electric. Couldn't have heard a truer statement.
I just bought the Twin Reverb TM amp last night. It is an upgrade from my Princeton 60w 12" speaker. All I can say is WOW - it is so loud and clean and no distortion. I can't wait to play with it more tonite! And I got it off Craig's L. for $650 in pristine condition!
A total master and humble to boot!!!!
Brother Lpgoog..you're correct..when i met George in Singapore..him & i sang Moody'sMood together and because it was about 3am in the morning we could sing loud with that glorious Hall Reverb working for us and we've been good friends ever since especially his half brother "Sir Dany Evans" who live in France. Also became great friends with his Bassist from Philly (Sir Stanley Banks)
Wow! Thanks for sharing this amazing story! Many of us Benson fans would die to get an autograph let alone sing Moody's Mood with him! LOL Not only is he a master guitarist that all guitarists love, but his singing is also incredible. (Love his rendition of that classic!) Thanks again.
I could listen to this guy talk all day, as well as sing and play. A Marvellous human being 😎
This is the nicest looking and sounding Fender amp of all times
Preach, Mr Benson!!! Preach! ❤️
It is such a pleasure to watch this.
George is a true guitar hero! Just meet him at NAMM. True gentleman as well.
I've owned twins for many years , it was the older ones sounded best . amazing how Leo Fender knew from the start that all the things George speaks about makes it such a great amp for guitarists still unrivaled to this day
Love to hear a legend & a National treasure give his take on the Holy Grail of amps.
GB was the first person I ever saw/heard play guitar and thought: that's amazing, and I want to play guitar.
Really good...nice to listen this story
Man, this guy's all about playing the guitar for what it is, he's used to working with the original sound of his wooden stick with strings, he's modest on his effects to ADD to the sound quality, not to spawn it from a huge pedalboard like a lot of guitarists today, even though I value pedals too much, this video should be shared with todays guitarists to share this different and original way of playing, cause this guy keeps it REALLY simple, which gives me something to think about.
Finally a worthwhile interviewee by Fender!
Nice stuff. I use to own a old twin reverb back in the 70's and yes they were heavy.
Love listening to this man market his products.
"Spill something on it, you'l never know..."
American treasure, this man. As important and influential as any artist.
He definitely is. I've been a customer of a guitar shop in Winston-Salem for years, the B-String on 6th Street. George came into the shop one day before a show that evening and played a Yamaha nylon string guitar for about an hour with just the owner there. He said he was the nicest guy you could imagine and such a talent on guitar. I've been a fan of GB since the 70s, he's right up there with Wes and Joe Pass in my book - just criminally underrated as a jazz guitarist...
"Where's the wheels?" lolol I'm a witness Mr. Benson!! For years, I carried a tube twin reverb around for years in my 20's and those wheels made a HUGE difference!
I love this guy!!! The world loves GB
Absolutely Fantastic!!!
I saw GB in Johannesburg South Africa a few years back. He had the most kick-ass band I've ever heard live. It wasn't a Jazz tour, but more a greatest hits show- but they took those songs up several notches. The pianist was incredible (after the show he was selling his CDs). Benson's chord work is unbelievable, his voice superb and guitar playing sublime. The only fly in the ointment was the sound man, who should have been hanged, drawn and quartered. The subs were so loud that I couldn't hear what notes the bassist was playing half the time. Also, a hollow body guitar is prone to feedback, as is the mic in front of the speaker. The rest of the band should have been lowered in volume to allow the guitar to dominate. Those issues aside, what a privilege to see this great performer and his band live.
Old George sure can weave stories like his phenomenal playing. undoubtedly one of world's best dressers.
So funny you should mention. I used to date a girl who held high-end sales positions in a couple well-known men's clothing companies. I was never impressed with how much (more) money (than me) she made; but when she told me she visited George Benson at his house with samples of her company's clothing line, I guess to persuade him to be a celebrity endorser... then I was jealous as all hell. For years I thought how unfair life is that a sales-person who never really appreciated the art get's the opportunity to meet such a great artist.
A lot of these videos are crap but this is a delight. Amazing. I bet they had fun.
Two Greats, George Benson and theTwin !!!
Ahh! Finally someone influential gave fender some insight on reinventing a new fender twin reverb line that's a lot lighter than the standard twin. AWSEOME!!
although I don't have a GB vibe twin, I still like to adjust my amp to his tone settings he has on the vid so I can get a liiiittttlleee closer to it lol
Play with thomastik innfeld strings, swing 12. Treble lower...bass lower, middle up....
Hear, hear !!! It's brilliant ! But we really need MORE !!!!
wow he is so down to earth!
Eloquent unassuming genius. I could have listened all day.
Best at this kind of thing. In a league of his own no question.
i´d love to listen to this guy and william shatner chatting for an evening.
Man that's funny, they're both Aries and they always reminded me of each other in a way, if u see them walking especially. Similar physiques and confident strides, so it's funny you mention them together!
+Riquespeaks Hop I just did, because they also remind me of each other, the way the look, talk, etc....i guess we´re onto something.
+Modestoney Classic ... William is into scat (of the poo kind... William Shat on her) and George is into scat of the vocal/instrument kind! Scat Cats!
Thank You George for Preserving The Real Blues So Stone Cold but Smooth Blues. 🕶
Talk about a class act. I'm not a big jazz fan but I am a George Benson fan.
I learned to play the guitar after I heard "This Masquerade " back in the 70's. I've been following and listening to his music for decades but "C'mon Man" at 4:53 when he claims not to know that he has been playing with a certain "vibrato " type setting had me shaking my head sadly..... On my first $10.00 practice amp to my high-end $600.00 amps I knew every setting and knob from day one.....
al black ... LMAO... OMG you're so fast it's not funny...Ow well , it's all marketing strategy of course
What a down to earth guy. I'd listen to a record of him just telling his stories.
This man is a national treasure! Love this man!
dude the action on his guitar... I can't even.
everybodyhasmine * I NOTICED that too, I was like whoa ! He's gotta heave some strong fingers or light guage strings.
everybodyhasmine So you’re saying the strings action is LOW on his guitar?
He plays 14-58 thomstik flats if im correct
Correct.
Freddie Green action
I heard that vibrato years ago I always thought you did that on purpose. I tried to re-create that sound even to this day.
When George exclaims how beautiful his licks are after he plays them for you,you can't help but agree .
Great playing George
Legend, great player!
Send over the Twin, it's gonna howl all night. That is so true. My '71 Twin has 15,000 stage hours on it. The original cabinet got roaded to pieces. I was lucky to find a cabinet in Corpus Christi for $50 at a music store in 1996, and I'm still using it regularly in the studio. You really can't ask for a better sounding, clean, dependable amp, I really enjoy mine.
Wow 5:00 vibrato!! I thought it was lush! Breezed had that grit too
I am running a Twin and a Tele,,plus a 335 copy ,, both sound wonderful at 2.5 and about 3/4 on the guitars ,,don't need any thing else .tone, mids, bass on 10 , verb on 3 .The only thing I would add is a set of casters .
Such a nice guy, great player..
The King is BACK!
Thanks GB....and Fender. When will you come to Korea for a gig? Need your civilizing tones here. Jazz could help with reunification. Cheers.
Mr Benson is a loveable human being.
How beautiful
Gotta love George Benson!
The GB Hot Rod Deluxe has a cool grey tweed. Looks like this has only a solid black.
This dude is a legend.
Seems like a really nice guy. Funny, smart and talented.
Back in the early 90's I wanted a loud amp. Thought Twin. Got a pro tube Twin in 96. Ahh.. Didn't take long to realize that was a mistake. Can't play it over 2 or people cry. It's so LOUD! Yrs later I got a master volume gadget to plug in the pre in pwr out on the back of the amp. Now I can actually use this amp at like 6 on the volume on the p, drive the tubes a little. But I also picked up a Boogie S O B about the same time as getting the M V knob. The Boogie is just so much more usable daily that it basically retired the Twin. Still got it, it looks brand new still and works perfectly...... for knocking down walls and doors and ignorant people. You know all the good things LOUD volume.
the Master speaks.....Thanks George
George is EPIC
I could listen to him talk for hours.
Love the Scotch taped F holes...Genius
Ugh I JUST bought his Hot Rod instead of getting the regular twin because I had no idea this was coming out!!!🙃
such a humble person.
Like all the great ones !
Like all the great ones !
Subtítulos en español por favor un maestro en estos días me compre 2 vinilos de los 80s que nivel!!!
Man just oozes class.
My father introduced me to George Benson in 1980 Give me the Night took me to a whole new level of jazz guitar and singing experience love him better than Prince and Jimmy Hindrex
Would love a deluxe reverb in the GB cabinet. It looks great. The twin is just far to loud for my needs tho. Like to play at home and can’t afford to replace the windows every time I play.
Jake Fowler pull a tube or two
Such a legend!!!!!!
SOUNDS GOOD
I do love me some Blue in Green.
Thx, Fender.
Now that's fender clean
