Got tip about keeping the shims with the bag. Another idea would be to measure the total shim size with a calliper so you can re make it if you need to.
Now it's time to spend another $100 on a QCTP that probably should have come with the lathe in the first place. Pick up some HSS tool blanks while you're at it.
a caliper reading on the nub divided by 2 will give the shim height. saves experimenting...
