This is so wild. You clearly have an obsession with your world building like I have with my cartooning / fine art. CZcams is getting good at recommending. Great channel. 👍

Obsession that doesn't consume you is likely a good thing, haha! My daughter is now old enough I can start to pull her into things. Hopefully I get to go the Tolkien route, and bring my kid into the story, share the world with someone else.
Is your cartooning and fine art up anywhere I can take a look?

Thanks for this amazing episode of the podcast. I've been worldbuilding for more than 20 years and most of this time was spendt in one world in particular. I have already many things about societies, history and countries done, but you brought my attention for other aspects with this podcast, in particular about food and how this can be more different from reality. Thanks for the inspiration

Glad you enjoyed it! Food is huge for me…such a fundamental part of life…but that means we have so many assumptions about it. The second you throw out something different than the reader’s “normal” they stop and take note!

Literally the topic I've been wanting to add to my arsenal. Let's get into this.

Hope you enjoyed it! Not sure one episode will be enough...or if I should expand more.

@@zack_feldman I can only speak for myself, but listening to your podcast snippets reinforces ideas that I've been playing with in my head, so for me personally it's quite enough and I appreciate you for that :)

This video made me realize how much drawing characters and scenes from my D&D campaigns tricked me into getting work done. I love to worldbuild, so this is certainly some great advice. I get easily stuck on what to draw if there's nothing to go off of, the dreaded blank page, and I think grounding it in a world or setting can really help give you that 'push' to get working.

Totally get it! You also feel like coming up with methods to “trick” yourself into working is a helpful endeavor? I seem to try to find them all the time!

@@zack_feldman Yea I basically need to. It's surprising how 'uncreative' I feel a lot of the times, but it's just that I need something to get the ideas flowing.

Fascinating topic Zack! I think children's books is one of the easiest entry points into world building. I've worked on a few educational picture books for some time, and I couldn't help but starting to create my own stories, characters, it's such a bliss! I intend to come back to it once I'm more established in my business. Have you had experience with / thought about picture books? I mean, it's just 32 pages, compared to a full fledged novel! Cheers!

No you are totally right! I am actually working on the planning and scripting and sketching for a children's book right now. I have a tendency to over build projects at first and then strip it back, but its probably more like 30-50 pages planned right now. So I'm fiddling with it, trying to figure out if I push it more and do almost like a picture book/graphic novel like Ben Hatke, or pull it back and strip it down to a 32 page book with maybe 30-40 lines of text.
On the other hand...I have completed my first draft of the big novel...though it is massive, hovering at around 278,000 words (800-1100 pages.) Fun...but a lot of work, I'll dive into editing soon.

You should talk to Odd Job Entertainment. It might just be due to recording equipment and software but you guys are voice twins
