This week’s film breakdown compares and analyzes Minnesota Vikings Wide Receiver Justin Jefferson and Cincinnati Bengals Wide Reciever Ja’Marr Chase. Not only are these two of the best young receivers in the NFL, they’re arguably THE best in the entire league. Both have set records in their rookie seasons, and both attended LSU (even playing there at the same time) so now the only question that remains: which of the two are better? This week’s episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze Minnesota Vikings Wide Receiver Justin Jefferson and Cincinnati Bengals Wide Reciever Ja’Marr Chase.

Let me know below which of these dudes is better
Yes
Also no
lol u spent most of the video on chase so ofc we know yo answer is chase but he’s not Jefferson man.
@@bigherboyt7336 I'm guilty, I had too many cool plays to talk about for Chase
@@AlexRollinsNFL Does today performance by JJ move the needle for you?
2019 LSU had the greatest passing offense of all time.
In fact, you can even argue they had the best team ever.
I could give you passing offense but those old Miami teams had like 6 hall of famers at once
Nah. 95 Nebraska 01 Miami 04 USC are top 3 . Those teams were complete on both sides of the ball LSU was just dominate on offense. Top offense ? You could argue that. Top team? Nope. Definitely top 10 all time though
Prolly not even top 5
They are the best team I've ever watched. Those old teams could never line up against 2019 LSU and I can't stand the SEC.
@@popsmcgee4153 the 19 LSU team is all still young but literally the whole team was drafted and all of the defense is starting and doing well. Maybe they had some great players but LSU had 22 NFL starters off the rip.
If I had to choose, I'd say Jefferson, because he does the same with way less support, but I don't think there's a wrong answer. Both are potential superstars for over a decade, and both are extremely fun to watch.
Agree with this. I like Chase a bit more cuz he’s so explosive
What’s really crazy is they played on the same college team but they are LSU receivers
I see where you are coming from ,but I think the fact that burrow doesn't have to go to chase because of tee Higgins and Boyd is scary
Agreed, also chase has Higgins who can be a considered a WR1 on another team and is putting up the numbers he has, not disagreeing tho
I feel like, if its 4th and 10 and i desperately need a first down i would go Jefferson. If its 4th and 10 and I desperately need a Touchdown, i would go Chase. While Jefferson feels like almost always open, with Chase you get the feeling that he can score anytime from anywhere on the field. Two of the best in the game, no doubt about it 👍
I like that summary.
Man, young explosive WRs are truly one of the most exciting parts of the game. I mean watching them is just soo much fun. Great episode!
Thanks TLC! These guys are really really special, somebody in my startup dynasty league traded up in front of me and nabbed both of them I WAS PISSED. (I got kyle pitts in TE premium at 1.4)
One thing not mentioned:
Chase got 1,455 yards his rookie in a 17 game season.
Jefferson got 1,400 yards his rookie year in a 16 game season playing 2 less games, seeing as he didn’t really take the field until week 3.
They’re both special, just thought I’d point out Jefferson’s stats in comparison
Chase didn’t play the last season of the game
And he broke the record before the last game
@@bd8037 so he did it in 16 games. That’s still a full season. He just had 55 more yards than JJ, and Jefferson did it in 14 games.
Chase - 16 games
Jefferson - 14 games
Soooo yea
@@pastornunja2513 ratio!!!
JJ is so good that he makes Cousins look *elite.*
Only 2 qbs had over 30 passing tds and less then 10 picks rodgers and Kirk. Kirk ain’t elite but he ain’t a bumb
he’s an underrated QB
@@treyboivin5070 hes always been a good facilitator of offense. Allowed his weapons to meet their potential both in WAS and MIN
I'm no Kirk Stan but I'd give him more credit than that, cousins is a real good QB and one of the most accurate he just gets in his own head a lot when he makes a mistake and becomes gun shy to let it fly
Yeah because Justin was was already in the league when Kirk got his bag right?
The play breakdown of Chase in the slot was insane. It’s the little stuff that goes unnoticed to most fans that separates the good from the great
Thanks!
To me Jefferson's achievements are way bigger than chase's so far. Chase has by far the better Qb and has more help around him that can take dbs away from him
Justin just gets targeted way more
@@dyllanmayes9694 with less help. I think you just made another point for Jefferson
@@hejabvbniederlage5952 imagine if jamar chase was the only receiver on the bengals. He has to share targets with another number 1 receiver and Tyler Boyd who would be a number 1 on more teams then you would think
What are his playoff stats? I assume insane since he's played an extra season.
@@chrisb7528 go ahead keep discrediting him
JJs route running is so next level I have to take him
6:43 the breakdown of burrow getting his receivers to change alignment so he could fit the ball into a tight spot sooner is unbelievably nuanced and takes incredible knowledge to even know is an option. my dumb ass had no clue how critically important that was until you explained it
Don't beat yourself up man, it's a crazy complicated sport. Those little nuances are why it's the best
@@AlexRollinsNFL yea, I know some X's and O's but some of the termonology is like gibberish to me
@@rahultalkssports1404 Don't worry, sometimes it is unnecessarily overcomplicated. The more you keep learning the more fun it gets!
I’d love to see a breakdown of how KOC out schemed the packers defense and kept Jaire Alexander off of JJ
so glad my eagles drafted Jefferson over Reagor. Could you imagine if they took Reagor first?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
And now we have Reagor as well. Hopefully our team and staff can work with him to help him reach his potential. If not we at least have a solid punt returner and more depth.
That draft must just hurt the Eagles fan base though. If roles and picks were reversed I would have been pissed off.
@@jeremybruce654 yea well we have Brown and Smith so doesn't hurt so bad anymore
😂😂
Can’t wait to see what JaMarr can do in his second year. So physically gifted.
He’s going to be the first to break 2000 yards in a season and I believe it’s going to happen this year. Burrow with a revamped offensive line and more control over play calling is going to be 🔥.
Hopefully that o line just needs some time to gel. But yeah, they didn’t look good today. Burrow was under pressure all game.
@@derekoverhage9180 doubt it
@@derekoverhage9180 do you still feel this way? I have chase in ff and someone proposed me a Jefferson for chase trade. It’s so freaking close. Bengals o line is Syd but Jefferson qb is sus. In a vacuum I’d say Jefferson right this minute but so close and we aren’t in a vacuum.
You would think Chase is the more physical receiver and win with just straight athleticism but he is a lot more patient for a receiver that fast and strong
GIVE ME JEFFERSON ALL DAY LOVE CHASE THO
Give me Jefferson, but it was a great breakdown Alex. Keep em coming!!
Thank you!
Chase all day. You put both on the bengals and you’ll see. Watched that entire 2019 season start to finish. Chase is a freak athlete. Justin runs great routes.
I think a VERY important thing about both JJettas and Uno is that they both have a GREAT complimenting receiver. Theilen maybe on the tail-end of his career but he's still good. Chase has Higgins who is ascending and is still very young. When Chase had his lull in the middle of the season, Higgins was balling out. Also Boyd is a very good receiver himself.
I love these two so much, they have such different playing styles and it’s just so cool to study them and see how smart and talented they both are.
Sweet video Alex, I love it when you cover receivers
Thanks Paschal! Yes i love them too, awesome players. You can't go wrong either way
I would like a Stefan diggs breakdown. People always speak technical polish but diggs has special herky jerky to him. He dances on the football field doesn’t run routes conventional
All I know is I owe the Bengals- especially Duke Tobin- an apology. When they decided to pass on Penei Sewell for Chase after Burrow spent the prior szn on his back & on IR - I clowned the shitttt out of em lol.
Boy, was I wrong. Jamar Chase is really HIM
Dude right! I mean to be fair they still desperately need offensive lineman so you weren't wrong. Chase is really just THAT good though
@Chandler Russell I mean tbf, a superstar o-line guy can completely change the line.
I think Jefferson is better because he has some Cooper Kupp like shiftiness and can dominate in the slot.
I still can’t believe that Burrow, Jefferson, Chase, and CEH were on the same offense. So unfair lol
Jefferson and Chase are the top 2 wrs in the NFL. Chase is the biggest alpha receiver in the league. No one can stop these dudes
I give the nod to Jefferson because he was playing in a run heavy offense and still put those numbers up I’m curious to see what Jefferson can do in a pass heavy offense.. all though both are incredible talents, no wrong answer
Bengals are a run heavy offense….
@@devinbishop8663 compare there run rate to Minnesota… Minnesota ran the ball almost 2/3 of the time
@@devinbishop8663 how ?
@@haxhilala Kirk cousin threw 50 more times than burrow did.
@@mattreynolds9482 Vikings were always behind so of course there gonna throw more.. that’s why I used run rate instead of total runs
I find it hard to click on videos who have titles like this because in reality neither one is better and they just have different strengths and weaknesses. Comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges. Both good but for different reasons
Sorry to over simplify, but Joe and Chase carried the Bengals to the super bowl, and with Ramsey falling down on the final play, a half decent offensive line would have won those two a ring. I will take Chase, and that is no disrespect to the other.
I have said it many times before, but your intros are always fire! 🔥
Thank you so much Paul! Good to hear from you
Another tremendous episode, Sir Alex! Thank you for the excellent breakdowns that are thoroughly researched and presented so well. I always feel so enlightened and enjoy learning the details that make some players great and the secrets that set them apart. I think the only way to decide this would be to have them switch situations and see how they do, mainly how Chase would do in Minnesota with all that that entails. That won't happen, so I don't want to choose one over the other. Both are world class and have plenty of time to get even better. This is going to be a fun season!
Thank you Noah! I appreciate the kind words, really. Yeah without a doubt, I don't think you can go wrong with either. Both proved that today
It’s a coin toss . I love Jefferson’s smooth route running and separation . I love chases jump ball ability and run after the catch
Justin Jefferson will have the more stable better career. Chase will have an odell type run of an elite 3-4 years then once he’s not as fast/athletic jj will b the obvious pick👍
JJ all day everyday
My opponent last week had J. Jeff and I witnessed the work he gets! Love these videos Alex! It's hard to see real time all the work a receiver does to make a play happen. Thanks for breaking it down!
Thanks Moises! RIP to your team last week bro lmao
I believe the JJ and Kirk connection will ascend to new heights with the regime change
Facts
@@nick5238 Cousins 4000 + yards and 25 touchdowns every season he has played.
Easier to break records when you get an extra hour playtime (17 game seasons as opposed to 16)
He broke the record in the 16th game
Why do so many NOT know ball? The Bengals sat all of their starters the last game. You dont know ball, stop embarrassing yourself.
Very easy to break records when only you can receive the ball and there are no other good wide receivers that can compete with you
These two remind me a lot of the arguments I used to have around Antonio Brown and Julio Jones. I doubt we will have an answer until a few years from now when we can really sit down and look at them through their primes
Been waiting for a vid like this for a long time , blessed up🙏🏾
I got you!
Justin Jefferson is from Destrehan Louisiana and he was a 3 star recruit. And Jamarr Chase is from Metairie Louisiana as a 4 start Recruit. I believe Jamarr Chase is more upside than Jefferson.
They both are great, Jefferson has an Advantage because his coaches actually scheme for him, they just make chase run.
Hard to pick, but depends on my offense & QB. Chase is probably a better YAC & Deep Threat. JJ is more of a intermediate route runner, less speed, but better route runner.
JJ got the quickness ,Jamar got the speed😂 basically
genuinely, what a great video. i think this one is my favorite so far 👏👏
Oh wow man thanks! Which part did you like? I'll try and do it more often 😂
@@AlexRollinsNFL i just think it was super in depth, and since i started high school football it’s honestly made it a lot more interesting (i didn’t know that was possible for your vids). it’s just cool to see how pros do special things and how you break it down

Justin Jefferson plays for the Vikings who wear Purple and Gold.
Jamar Chase plays for the Bengals(Tigers).
If I want to win playoff football games I'm going with Jamarr. He's so physical on the outside and can dominate in any game. If I want to have an elite fantasy football team I'm going with Jefferson.
Good take and a Bengals fan I know what chase can do when they pressure is on.
@@chrisb7528 facts he's just dominant. He showed out in every single playoff game last season, I believe he cracked 100 in all of them.
Chase isn’t nearly as polished as JJ. Can’t rely on athleticism against the best of the best.
@@nick5238 Not yet, he's a year behind. We will see after this season but JJ will get more targets, I'm also adding in the post season because without Chase the Bengals would not make the playoffs.

now imagine jjettas joins the bengals with burrow and chase. league may have to step in.
That ain’t happening
TECHNICALLY Jefferson got 1400 in 16 games than 17. But jamar Chase did it with a QB playing with a trash o-line compared to the Vikings, so it evens out!
Technically he had it in 14 games because Zimmer didn’t play him the first two weeks for whatever fucking reason.
Technically Chase didnt play in the 17th game, EVERYONE who knows ball knows the Bengals sat their starters. It is crazy to think that Charger fans are more informed than Viking fans... unbelievable.
JJ also did it with a QB playing with a trash O-line? Wtf lmao...since when is has the Vikings line been good, especially in 2020...
@@brianpoe1683 Chargers fans don't exist...must be a bot.
@@shiffer1307 Dont talk whine about a bad oline to a Bengals fan.
Jefferson is breathing a new life into cousins career
Both great top 5 receivers I be happy with both it don’t matter 💯😁
I’m taking Jamar just cause he is a better play maker that’s gonna go a long way in this league leading the league in most yards is a accomplishment to so I gotta give jj that and the fact that he such a smooth route runner but that tape and paper are to different things if jj was more explosive and got more yards after the catch and scored more then I would say he’s better but I done seen games were jj don’t even score which is not the case for chase because chase has to score every game in order for the bengals to win and he done a pretty good job at that so far 💯
Jamarr "Go Route" Chase. One play TD.
@Furio Mr. Williams Giunta It's boring. JJ is more entertaining.
Jalen Reagor is the deadliest weapon in football.
"without a top 10 QB" instant sub. Cousins is fool's gold.
Kirk is underrated
@@nick5238 Nah he's properly rated. Thing is QB-WR chemistry is a thing and Chase-Burrows' chemistry is absolutely for real and what allows them to make plays even off script. Cousins and Jefferson aren't exactly tight on things especially deep shots.
@@t4d0W they were college teammates what do u expect. We have never seen that before.
2 of the best in the league right now!
Jefferson reminds me of Jerry Rice. I said that his rookie year as I took him off the bench in fantasy.
Chase reminds me of no specific player from the past but like a combination of Randy Moss and TO.
Cousins is a top 10 quarterback
No chance
In what way ?
How? He's the ultimate frontrunner
@@qtpqtpqtp Makes most of the throws you ask him too, not many turnovers (besides his terrible stretch the first half of 2020 which as a Vikings fan was a nightmare lol) has great arm talent, etc. I think he doesnt get enough credit. He was always playing from behind last year and was not the reason they were losing games, he kept them in every game. And his center is Garrett Bradbury.
I commented above but in no order I got Allen, Rodgers, Brady, Russ, Mahomes, Burrow, Lamar, Dak, Herbert, Stafford
anyone know how to watch NFL all 22 film this year for free or cheap? Thanks
im a Chase guy but JJettas is great too
Justin had 40 more targets... off productivity and numbers it's Jefferson, and efficiency and explosiveness it's Chase for me. Everyone saying Burrow is way better than Kirk is untrue accuracy wise, Kirk is a very accurate pocket passer, while Burrow has more skills. Also look at 5 of Chase's TDs, he got a slot pass and out juked/ran the opposing defense for 50 yards.
Chase elite for real but his qb is nothing with out him
Go do sponsor stuff!
Justin Jefferson just gotta join the ravens so we can see these two against each other twice a year and settle it once and for all
I just feel like their both great. Some people like Ferrari’s and some like Lamborghini’s both great cars. But different.
No to mention they both had great week 1s!
Personally I prefer Jefferson’s quickness/shiftiness. So I pick ✈️. I will say chase has sneaky speed and it looks simple and easy for him. That out he ran to tie the game at 20 was so simple but he was so open! Work of 🖼.
AS a WR It was very refreshing to watch your breakdown! 👏🏽
Kupp taken had to snag Jefferson for fantasy. Fingers crossed baby
2019 lSU vs 2024 Michigan... Who's winning? 🤔
If JJ played with Mahomes, Lamar, or Joe Burrow (especially the last one), it would rival Moss and Brady or Montana and Rice.
well there is a return to the deep ball with some monster WRs and some mobile QB who can beat you with their feet or arms.......should be fun playoffs as always
Chase is very powerful and fast. More powerful than you think.
But I remember seeing both Jefferson and Chase skip during routes. Yes, skipping and toying with defenders in college. It was a video game.
Jefferson is better, he got doubled in College and still made big plays. Chase was singled covered and won most of his 1 on 1's.
THey may be the best 1 2 wide receiver punch in College ever assembled...I mean they were amazing at LSU
They asked Joe burrow who’d he rather have at wide receiver this off season. With Chase sitting next to him he said, “no comment” and laughed. It was obvious he thinks Jefferson is better
I think maybe only 3 DBs can shut down these speedy Gonzales receivers. Ward, Terrell, and Horn. And yes I know the last one is a stretch because he hasn't played but I think Horn is the future.
Ward is so underrated man
Is this about using screens and using WR in the backfield? If true then why didn’t guys like Jerry rice and sterling sharpe do that in the past?
What do you mean?
@@AlexRollinsNFL we’ve seen an increase in screens in the modern game as well as offenses using the speed of WR in the backfield with guys like Cordelle Paterson and deebo Samuel how come Jerry rice or another west coast receiver wasn’t used in the backfield
Jefferson by far
Randy moss rookie year was better than both of theirs.
It’s like Jarvis & Odell again. Go tigers
I watched them all season at LSU. There is no "better." I prefer JJs style bc I think its more versatile. He will be "open" so more QBs will be comfortable. Chase having Burrow is broken though bc Burrow just knows when a "covered" Chase has his man beat. And he is strong enough to break a tackle and house it after.
Definitely Chase cuz of the YAC
Just make JJ to Cincinnati happen so they can play together with Joe and win every Super Bowl for the rest of their careers.
I hate to say it but give me JJ any day of the week he is the best WR in the NFL today as far as chase goes he could be just as good
Jefferson is clearly better. I think people put chase over Jefferson just because he’s more explosive and looks good while doing it. Jefferson is the most complete receiver in the NFL right now.
I’m a Vikings fan so i don’t want this but would it be crazy if JJ found his way on to the Bengals.
The griddy😳
Jefferson actually has time to get down the feild lol
Answer: The griddy
It’s weird, but I love and hate your intro at the same time. Never felt like that before
Jefferson falls into the trap of not only is Cousins his QB, but Theilen has fallen off a cliff. But he is containable. Just look how Philly did it. Dude got shut down, and the whole second half was 1 on 1 vs Slay. Chase imo has more value because simply there are less corners who are elite like Slay, but have the speed to keep from blowing by him.
In my opinion jefferson is the better wr at this point..consistent..chase does tho have even more monster potential...he goes stupid some games like against the cheifs where he shows how explosive he can be...still have my money on jefferson and his game.
I would give anything to get Jefferson on the Bengals….I’d give up 3 first round picks….those two & Burrow would terrorize the league!
That would be super scary! But I don’t want my Vikes to lose JJ
How is the Justin Jefferson cut into the lane of the defender not pass interference ?
I believe its the whole receiver and DB have a right to the same spot kinda thing.. not 100 on that
JJ is the better route runner, but Chase is the better big play guy.
WRU!!!! Really hope Terrance Marshall can be next
Officials robbed us of 2019 LSU V 2019 Ohio state. NFL studs all over the field for both teams on Both sides. Woulda been a top 5 all time natty
If Cincy can't resign Higgins and Jefferson's contract should be up around the same time can we get an LSU reunion in Cincy?
@The Redleg Not to save money, like let's say Jefferson really wanted to be reunited so took a little less than market and maybe Burrow took a small pay cut. Not thinking it will ever happen and I think Tee is going to have a breakout season with Chase being doubled.
I think Chase is a more physically gifted athlete but he's not messing with JJ. You think Chase is make that catch on 4th and 18 in Buffalo? You guys got Jefferson messed up
I still feel like jamarr chase can potentially be better than JJ, and I’m a Vikings fan
Jefferson is a versatile weapon who watches who guard him every week to gameplay a different way to destroy them. Chase is just a physical deep threat who can run routes decent but not like Jetta
Again, the stupidity, who knew Vikings fans didnt know ball? So many ignorant takes. If you dont know about Chase dont comment and embarrass yourself, your fanbase and your mom.
Both great but gonna go Chase I think!
Lol, "we've literally never seen this before" I love both these kids, but if you'd take them over Randy Moss, you're on the drugs
In terms of what both did their rookie seasons, they both topped Randy
They literally broke Randys record. Hows he on crack for stating a literal fact
I have one of them in each of my fantasy leagues so I’m cool either way
How did you pull that off?
@@AlexRollinsNFL I had the third and fourth pick and I took chase fourth and jj third. I know it’s high but I like them there
