Major respect to the first ref, handled that situation like a champ. Rule no°1 is that yu let the f go when someone taps, and anything to do with a choke hold is genuinely life threatening so to not let go immediately is a sign that they are a serious risk to others and should be penalised severely. Immediate dq or banning should be commonplace for such moments.

I believe chokes aren’t life threatening when done properly. A professional choke targets the blood circulation when the choke is released the blood flows again without any problems

My point is that if the move has the potential to kill or inflict serious lasting damage there should be absolutely 0 leeway given to those who demonstrate a lack of restraint.

Restrict that pressure enough, damage or abrade the interior of those veins, and you are basically playing with cotton candy for a circulation system. Aneurysms, strokes, brain degradation due to insufficient oxygen over a long, undiagnosed period of time: all are options for a blood choke by an idiot who forgets this isn't a street fight, but a match with RULES and what's supposed to be RESPECT for your opponent.

One of the most robbed and underrated fighters ever seen, all because he could dance and kick ass at the same time (drunken master), seriously, I fell out of love with boxing for a decade or so because he is legit one of the most versatile and entertaining fighters to ever grace the sport but the purists held him back (a real case of cancel culture), he would take any fight at short notice and often hand the established fighter a beating, the battle of their career and even retirement, leaving nearly eveyone he fought saying he was their toughest ever opponent (see Floyd Mayweather & Mickey Ward for example). The difference is, he was not an arrogant man and was actually a very graceful and respectful fighter. The 'bob & weave' was not part of boxing initially and the same criticisms could have been levelled at that, avoiding punches is as important as throwing them. if not moreso.

I remember seeing that last dude get a well deserved ass woopin in another fight.
It wasn't really an ass whooping.. he was pretty much winning the fight until he danced right into a head kick knockout.
His name's Michael "Venom" Paige, he's 20 - 1 due to an accidental slip up causing his 1st knockout ever.
He also beat the guy he lost to in a later fight but lost again to another fighter to a split decision making him like 21-2 ATM.
Oooh no he didn't slip. Douglas Lima caught him with a perfectly timed leg kick causing him to fall to one knee. Before he could gather himself he caught an uppercut and two nasty hammerfists from hell. It was satisfying and karma. Michael venom page is super disrespectful. Damn good fighter but his antics make him super cringy.

I was always taught that the referee is the sensei of the ring. You bow to him, you show him the respect and you always show respect to your opponent.

There's this state where you're not sure where you are or what's going on but you're still acting around in some sort of confused survival mode, with muscle memory as you don't even think your moves but still, not truly senseless and out.

And that wasn't a lock with force, just enough to stop him
Chokehold isn't going to do anything to him but make him pass out, which is what was best for the guy in the moment anyways.
