I'm pretty hyped for Godzilla Vs Kong, I absolutely love the MonsterVerse. After watching the trailer, I just had to make a mashup with it's song "Here We Go" by Chris Classic.
A small digression from my mashup album project, but I wanted to get thi out so badly. Hope you guys like this!

The lyrics work perfectly with the rhythm of Crisis City.
I think there could've been more, like a callback to one of your previous Linkin Park mashups that had Crisis City in them or something.
Also, the use of SMBZ Fire Sonic's fight scenes and Ready Player One was an astounding touch! I was not expecting that!
(P.S. I'm considering following in your footsteps in terms of mashups and videos like this, can you please tell me what stuff you use to create things like this and something like a summary of how? You're an iconic mashup idol to me, and it mean so much to learn this "power" to create my own stuff.)
Thanks, it really means a lot to me! I wanted to keep this one simple so I kept it short & stuck to just one vocal track.
I’m flattered you think of me as an idol, lol. For me, the ones I look up to, or are huge inspirations to me, are the users Yuzoboy & Murphy341 (the latter being inactive for almost 10 years now).

When it comes to making mashups, it’s a lot of fun & all you really need is just 2 programs for basic stuff (based on what I use):
- Audacity [for audio mixing]
- Windows Movie Maker [for video editing]
Audacity:
A free to use audio mixing software. Comes with a lot of editing tools stuff you can experiment with & is easy to use. It’s very user friendly, I recommend starting with that.
Windows Movie Maker:
I currently use Movie Maker (Windows 7 variety) since it’s easier to make videos with, though it can freeze/crash if you make a lot of cuts/splices (this video alone has 50 cuts, images including (end card)). That’s if you’re going for all out with presentation. Most would just have a single image or opt for gameplay footage, but it can be whatever you want it to be - I started my channel with AMVs so I care a lot about my video presentation.
Mind you, if you have Windows 10, then you probably don’t have Movie Maker (unless it’s a PC that was upgraded from Windows 7). It’s not available at the Microsoft store either. When I got my tablet (W10), I had to google installation files for WMM. It’s risky though since because the Microsoft websites don’t give them out, there is a chance it could be bugged with a virus.
Of course, if you prefer other video editors, then go for them instead - I’d recommend Filmora 9, it’s user friendly & has a lot more neat effects (a decent substitute to After Effects), but it will cost you. The trial version has watermarks when published, so be aware of that.
That’s the basics with mashup & video making, & that’s how I’ve been mixing for some time. But of course not every song you want to mix has an instrumental or acapella available online. With that I would suggest the website: phonicmind.com
This site allows anyone to extract vocals & instrumentals from any songs file with varying results (mostly in my favour, I’ve been using this for over 2 years now). Granted it costs money to do so & you need to make an account (& again, the quality of the results may vary).
I also use Photoshop to make my thumbnails, but that’s pretty obvious.
Ok, so this part here is where you get into advanced stuff:
- Ableton Live [for correcting vocal pitches]
- Adobe After Effects [for extra video effects & layering]
Ableton Live 10:
Before my trial ran out weeks ago, I used Ableton Live 10 Trial for pitch shifting acapella tracks. This is where you’re getting into slightly advanced territories since Audacity vocal pitch shifts doesn’t keep the vocals tone consistent. In my last video (Somewhere My Teardrops Belong), I used Ableton to make the vocals the same key as the instrumental without making Chester sound like a chipmunk. Before I discovered Ableton, I usually pitch shift the instrumentals instead in Audacity since they usually turn out great (I still do it now).
Adobe After Effects:
I use this to make my title & end transitions. I started doing this later on with my videos & was inspired by the Zone cards & transitions from most Sonic games (the ones that inspired me the most are Sonic 2, S3&K, & Advance 2). Aside from that, I use this software mainly to make all my 4:3 video footages look great on a 16:9 format, as well as some other visual effects that you can’t do on Movie Maker alone (I make the base video with Movie Maker & make the final touches & title/end transitions on After Effects).

Right now, that’s pretty much it. Breaking it down, I use all these:
Basic stuff needed
- Audacity
- Windows Movie Maker
Optional Extras
- phonicmind.com
- Photoshop [for thumbnails]
Advanced software:
- After Effects
- Ableton Live 10 [just for pitch shifting]
To clarify again - You don’t need to use all these to make great mashups, all you need right now is Audacity & any simple (& free) video editing software you can get. But most importantly, just experiment & have fun. You’ll figure it out as you go along - when relying on Audacity alone, I managed to work around limitations of unclean acapellas & clashing pitches through various effects & fades.
Again, make sure to enjoy what you do, & soon enough you’ll be pumping out mixes.
