That's actually what a lot of action scenes are missing today. The pauses here helped to pace the fight better and as a result, the scene was much easier to follow.
Story and beat structure are outlined first, then the rest of the fight is choreographed on the fly, shot by shot. We rehearse a shot of choreography 10 to 20 times, shoot 5-10 takes until we get it, then move on.
Eric, as someone who has only recently started to get into the stunt world, I have to say that you are a huge inspiration. Every time I see one of your videos, I re-play them over and over just to study your choreographies, movements, reactions...it's a gold mine. Thank you for such high quality material, and also thank you for your tutorials! It's interesting to me how you choreograph the fight on the fly....this whole time I thought the whole thing had to be ready before you started rehearsing. Huh...

hey we tried!
Wooo the way this fight ended felt so raw and real. Even though no words were exchanged there was communication in the body language. BRAVO to your art!
Die Hard 5 knife fight did not make it into the film. This is why I like doing indie stuff.
Thumbs up if you rewatched this over and over again
This is hands down my favorite Stunt People short
I actually got to do that after doing this vid! Got to choreograph and pre-viz a fight for Die Hard 5. When it comes out we'll see if my choreography got used. Keep an eye out for a knife fight.
Only choreographed one fight and no I didn't get to meet him. But it was fun nonetheless. Hope the fight makes it in, there's a knife involved.
This only has 14k subs? Wait PewdiePie, has 24 MILLION.....and this only has 14k? This world confuses me, anyway, subbed.
There just aren't many people in the world with good taste.
***** Well you guys just keep doing what you do, I look forward to seeing more of this grade A stuff from you, keep on keepin on. You are awesome.
*****
i love pewds. but i just didnt know about ur channel :)
I love pewds too, guilty pleasure ;)
***** I don't like him personally, but you can't argue against his success, he is apparently doing something right, but the stuff you and all these guys do is even more awesome, and I don't understand how you don't have a larger audience.......thus is the internet I suppose.....
And it just ends like that? Brilliant! That was amazing!
I like how he counter that throw using the wall.
Hey that was way better than most real fights even alot of the mma fights and alot more exciting lol.
It better make it in! You can't deny the Stunt people's work! Can't wait! thanks for replying so quickly! More Hollywood movies should hire you!
Very good gentlemen. good power in the movements hard solid blocks.. looks real and I like the arm locks escapes..
I love you Eric!!!
BEST FIGHT EVER ERIC
OMG! I thought it was a fight scene with Colin Farrell In it! Good job guys!
Like the way he just walks away.......
Damn good. Better than any fight seen in a US movie in a decade
Gentlemen, this is one of the best things you' ve done by far, and i watch you for five years. Absolutely stunning,
Excellent. There is no doubt the people who watched this video rewinded a few times at some really great parts. Very good work ! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Excellent fight! Loved the kicks!
Go fast
the handwork is incredible
If they gave out Oscars for kickass fights this would win by a landslide.
It is amazing that stunt-people and Shawn Bernal's group aren't doing more choreography for Hollywood. Great work.
@MarioXavie thanks, though comparing ourselves to Jackie Chan gets views, and if we were to translate 10,000 views into dollars, I think that's around twelve cents or something.
This is amazing, damn.
That was....AAAWESOOOME!!!!GREAT!!GREAT!!GREAT!!!
Completely awesome in every way
This is better than any "hollywood" fight scene i've ever seen! keep up the great work guys!!! hope to see more!
impressive really very complicated choregraphy
I know you posted this content 8 years ago and probably you wont see this comment but I gotta tell you I just discovered your channel and I'm addicted to it Eric! Keep them coming bro! Love from Malaysia ✌
Damn Hiroshi that fall at the end looked painful. great work
plus, the ending credits was creative :DD
amazing. just amazing
awsome fight scene
That was awesome!
Astonishing as always. As expected from the stunt people.
Bourne music~ ~Awesome!!
It's true Chan's style has evolved over the years, but have you seen Wheels on Meals? It's one of my fave Chan films, directed by the masterful Sammo Hung co-staring Yuen Biao. Anyway, this short imitates that style of fighting flawlessly so the title of the vid is entirely accurate
Awesome.
wow wow wow wow wow wow incredible incredible
Oh my goodness. This is good stuff!!! Amazing choreography and certainly some of the best hand to hand exchanges i've seen in a while!
Even the hair is on point! gj
Wow amazing choreography!!!
Yet another top class performance buy the team!! Well done guys!
How in the heck do you come up with all these intros, outros, and the placing of each planned attack almost so perfectly? Your choreography is mad amazing!!! I know this was posted like 8 years ago but I wanna see something like this again!
Jackie Chan style, no hitting, just touching and dancing
Wow, wow, wow! Guys this was just fantastic! Great job!!
That's how it is in Wheels on Meals. That's what they were replicating.
That Bourne theme lol but great fight scene though
Very nice. Loved the hand movements.
Really good fight. Well done.
awesome
this choreo is epic.
bravo!
This is the best CZcams Kungfu scene I've seen so far! Excellent! the action editing seemed smooth to me, the music added to the suspence, great facial expressions during the fight!
I subscribed after watching this. A brilliant, technically choreographed fight scene. Only fight scenes better are the ones in The Raid Redemption.
haha amazing choreography though! really good!!
Love your stuff, talk about a hidden gem of a channel
@wolf22 Not usually, though we'll sometimes come back to fill spots in. Much easier to go linearly.
0:30 Bourne theme song xD , awesome
cool!
sick fight... cool speed and tempo.
Awesome punch and blocks at 2:05
Subbed, you guys are incredible!
Наконец-то я посмотрел это видео я очень долго ждал пока у нас его разблокируют и вот я посмотрел спасибо тебе Eric Jacobus и вся съёмочная группа работавшая над этим роликом
haha he even has Jackie Chan's hair.
I love these videos. The fights are great and the stories are better than most fill length movies these days.
You guys are beast. I´ve been watching your shortfilms for years (I love Undercut, poor ninja dog) and it keeps better and better. Wish you have a leader role on a important movie
@wolf22: continuity and logic is incredibly important in crafting a fight like this - there is a definite progression, or a "story" in our choreography that begins somewhere and takes the characters on a quick little journey where there has to be some sort of transformation. We each came to the fight with certain ideas, and try our best to string them together in a narrative fashion, throwing away the ideas that didn't fit the tone or the "story".
-Pete Lee, shooter co-director
Beautiful fight scene. You guys always do great work
IS THIS LIKE THE FIRST EPISODE FOR A SERIES OR SOMETHING?! OMGAWD IM SO PUMPED UP NOW AWESOME..... Okay.... Sorry. Ah-hem*........ That was good.
1:17 bullet holes missing haha
@crichtonIASA Thanks man. This vid is in our channel. No news on BDB, but I'm currently working on my personal project Death Grip. Moving nicely and if all goes as planned Death Grip will smash Contour.
Do you still work with Hiroshi Adachi?
Waw !
You guys are awesome I love watching your stuff.
Pauses can be well implemented that's for sure. But here it's just eye staring.
I can't wait for Die Hard 5 now even more! Always looking forward to that! Is there another fight in that movie that you choreographed? And any other movies coming out that you choreographed? You got to meet Bruce Willis?! This is stellar news!!!! I think this is the wisest choice Hollywood has made since Jack Foley made sound! You guys are awesome!
bourne series music? Nice!
better than any fight seen in the US movie ever
Liked the ending long shot. It kinda reminded me of the ending to Michael Clayton (George Clooney movie)
Great scene! Eric looked like Jesus Christ doing martial arts. cool!
This is my dream, to be an awesome stuntman ^_^
Dear friends, tell where to take please library of sounds of blows, such as in this video? Well you understand, pleasant on sounding)
@Muscle9teen actually, you can
LOL Colin Farrell at 1:50
@wolf22 Hey Wolf, we devise a structure with key ideas that accent the narrative with a strong bond between the ideas holding them together. I tend to be the guy who 'glues' the ideas together, throwing in the hand- and footwork or 'notes' as I see em. It's typical for someone else to propose a brilliant idea and for me to say, "Okay, but we have to get there first." Then I close my eyes and get frustrated at myself until it comes to me, angles and all.
-Eric Jacobus, bearded dude
Супер!
How do you block like that
I'm so surprised you haven't had a copy-right claim on the Bourne music...but this is really good, guys!
So Eric can kick ya head in AND twist ya arm off like it's the leg off a well cooked turkey..........AWESOME!!!!
Where those the actual sounds? I'm just asking because I can hear the echo of each punch bounce off the hallway walls.
One of the best martial arts scenes I've seen.
What style practiced each?
I was very disappointed with that movie. They only had gunfights and they could've had a great fight with that muscular guy with CCQP tattooed on his back. WHY IN THE WORLD WOULDN"T they use your work? I hope you get another chance. Maybe you can make a video with the same choreography you had and title it,"Missing Die Hard 5 knife fight." Show the world what they could've gotten in DH5. Keep up the good work, you are one of the best screen fighting team's out there in my opinion.
You’re only allowed to say it’s inspired by Wheels on Meals if somebody does that epic low-down flip that Jackie did
