So ig you want to save you consistently get your food at say 11am during slow times vs at 1pm at surge times.

I think a happy hour type system would be better. I used to work at McDonald’s too, they had a sheet with how much product we were expected to use each day, this means they know peak hours and all that.
I assume Wendy’s has something similar, so why don’t they use their known biggest selling times to set higher fixed prices as opposed to dynamically changing the price? It would be significantly easier on the customer.
My biggest fear is having my card declined so I always check the prices before I go (99% of the time I order online). I would be terrified to go if the prices just kept changing while I’m in line.

They claim that despite their hours of operations, 'its jobs meant for teenagers to have spending cash' and the mentality that if you are a fast food worker or unskilled labor, that you messed up your life and I guess should just be poor forever.
So since there is no union for them, any worker than complains will be fired, and the remaining staff will be expected to cover. If they manage to to do it without too many eff-ups, the owner will just leave the position open and use it to deny workers any extra days offer or sick days claiming 'we're already short staffed, we can't afford for you to be out'.

F-ck Wendy's Dynamic pricing and "Suggestive Selling." The mere suggestion by their CEO is enough for me to never go to a Wendy's, one of the only 2 fast companies that I still visit, while that CEO holds his position. I'm disgusted by it. Every single restaurant has a lunch and dinner rush. It is the expectation most people eat during the same 2 1/2 hour windows surrounding traditional meal times. Management can save labor by scheduling and staffing around those rushes. There is 0 reason to adjust the pricing. That is the problem. If it was necessary, no one would care. Instead, it's just another greedy company trying to gouge you.

    • @turinturambar347
      @turinturambar347 Před 2 měsíci +2

      For many reasons.
      1) We have many expenses now that we did not have in the past. Whether it be internet, cable, or cell phones. But we also make bad decisions in this. Nobody needs a smart phone, but we all seem to think it's a requirement that we spend $1,000 on a new phone every year or every other year. We don't NEED it, but we do it anyway. We don't need several different streaming apps, but we tend to get them anyway. We're being nickeled and dimed over small subscriptions, whether it be cloud storage a new streaming service, etc. $4.99 here and $7.99 there, adds up. But none of it is truly necessary. You don't need a databank in the cloud to hold your 50,000 photos and videos. Our parents or grandparents got by with a polaroid and photo album, where they kept the 10 photos they took every year. But we FEEL like these things are necessary, because everybody else has them and we have to fit in to society.
      2) Nobody cooks anymore. So many of us order out multiple times per week. Most of us would save several hundred dollars per month if we simply prepared our own food. When we were younger, our parents and before them our grandparents, mostly had homecooked meals where they were efficient with their ingredients. We've become frivolous with food, due to expediency and nobody learning the skills to properly cook. We've also built social expectations around "dining out".
      3) And this last one is probably the biggest. But of course real estate has skyrocketed. Investment firms like Blackrock, as well as private investors who own 4 or 5 houses to "get rich", have priced ordinary people out of the market. If you didn't inherit money, you had to work hard to save money over time so you could eventually buy a house. But those who did inherit money, started getting into real estate 20+ years ago, and the internet really kicked off this trend, as did reality TV shows that glorified it, flooding the market with investors. These investors who are already rich and want to get richer, buy houses and want to turn the other 97% of the population into renters. They can afford to buy a house and wait 20 years before it turns a profit, because they already own so many properties that they're receiving income on. Something should have been done about this a long time ago, but it's too late now. You can't let the cat out of the bag. To overturn the real estate business now would require a power move like none other, and would get no support, because these huge firms own 80% of the politicians. It's too late, much like it's too late to fix the gun problem in America, because there's already like 500 million guns and getting one off the street would be easy as hell even if they were all outlawed tomorrow.

Dynamic pricing works great for travel & hospitality because the purpose is to spread out crowds, encourage off-season travel, and generally make it more cost efficient to run in normally low-volume times by making every time and season busier, but that doesn’t translate to retail and fast food. People can’t and won’t just change their whole schedule for lunch. I don’t think their CEO understands the purpose behind surge or dynamic pricing at all.

I live 1/4 mile from the train derailment. I actually film much of the drone footage of the accident from that night and days after. I never thought I would be so close to a tragic event that would be in such a national spotlight.
I worry all the time about what kind of side effect we could experience in the years to come. They had opened the town back up too early while chemicals were still in the air just so that they could run trains through town. They could not run trains until the evacuation order was lifted and they did just that only 15 minutes after we were allowed back into town.

    • @dieselbaby

It's really quite alarming how quickly the media and our government worked to silence any coverage and discussion of the derailment. It was in the news for a very brief amount of time, nationally, given the scale of such an incident. Of course, because it's in "flyover country", as the elites derisively refer to the region, they don't really care. If it happened in DC it'd be a much different story. I'm absolutely positive that in 5-10 years' time, if not sooner, the magnitude of their incompetence (if not outright malicious intent) regarding all aspects of the disaster will become widely known, from how the whole thing could've been prevented to how they covered up the looming health problems that will impact generations. One of the more shameful events in our country in recent memory, and that's saying something considering how corrupt our govt is.

As a LGBT+ Australian, my first thoughts on the disappearance was "Oh look, another hate crime" - Im glad that in this circumstance some closure for their friends and families is within reach.
As for the commissioner - in my experience (and i will probably get backlash on this) Australian women in these types of positions have to work ten times harder to not step on public landmines than their male counterparts do. We've had Australian politicians, who first denied and then admitted to, SNIFF FEMALE COLLEAGUES CHAIRS IN PARLIAMENT, but it was mostly laughed off at the time. More recently the mayor of Perth made an unknowingly on camera remark about how the womens Wimbledon finals was on, he referred to them as "reserves" and had to remember he "used to work in media" i haven't seen much scrutiny over those comparisons.
I am happy for a police commissioner to take the time to collect facts, and give the news to the families of the affected FIRST. We didnt have a manhunt on our hands, so the public wasnt in any danger.

I'd disagree. At least when it comes to something sexual, female politicians have much more leeway than male politicians. At least recently. Maybe not in the past, but since metoo, if you're male and you make any kind of crude sexual remark or have any allegations remotely aimed at a female, then you're going to catch hell and probably forced to resign. Female politicians though can say the most crude things about men, make dirty jokes, and get away with practically anything and will not be called to resign or anything similar. Hell, in the states, one of the women who originally came forth during metoo to write much of the pro-women legislation, was caught grabbing the crotches of male colleagues. It was barely talked about other than locally, and she absolutely was not forced to resign. At least in the states, we have seemed to have overcorrected.
I can't speak to Australia though.

On Wendy's: That used to be our go-to stop in 2021. We'd go every other day, spend like 15 to 19 bucks for 2 full meals that were filling. Our house in Houston didn't have a reliable fridge, so we ate out most days. But by 2022, our meals started to INDIVIDUALLY be 15 bucks. So we switched to the 4 for 4. Less filling but doable. Then it wasn't a 4 for 4; it was the biggie bag for like 7 bucks for the same amount of stuff but a bit smaller... and the last time we went to Wendy's was August 2023, and the food wasn't even that good, and we dropped like 30 bucks for what used to be only 10 bucks. Do I like Wendy's? Sure. Do I like it enough to spend more on it? No. Even my cheapest McDonald's order has gone up 5 dollars in a year (it used to be about 5 bucks after tax for me to get a double cheeseburger, a small fry, and a small drink. That's a solid 5 bucks in my mind. Now, BEFORE TAX, it's like 7 bucks. Getting a fast food burger, fry, and small drink shouldn't cost almost double. I know for a fact that the manufacturing of frozen fries, frozen meat, and soda syrup hasn't gone up...)

Oh man, really? Last time we went to McDonald's for breakfast, just for a sandwich and a hashbrown it was like $12-15 where we are. Carls is like $14-18 for a meal, burger King is similar. Counting tax, it's hard to leave any chain for less than $35-40 for two people. In restaurants, even as low end as Dennys and IHOP, meals more or less start at $18. Sides are now, on the low end start at $12ish. If you go to a mid level restaurant, for two people, you're not leaving there paying under $55-60 for bare bones meal.
My partner and I stopped eating out and managed to cut our grocery budget to $80 per week, not counting a monthly costco visit (about $150). I'm WFH and aside from picking up groceries. I don't leave the house anymore. Too expensive.

@@juchiha9566 I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you are too young to remember DARE (or maybe it wasn't offered to you). Kids, while mainly stupid, are not entirely stupid. They know when they're being pandered to and will just mock it. It ends up being a many billions of dollar joke. Some top down project will spend billions on planning and input from child psychologists and committees, and everything else and then come up with some stupid focus group designed mascot like Charlie the cat, who always ask for consent! And it'll get unilaterally mocked and shit on by kids and have 0 effect. The idea that you can have some massive PRE-PLANNED program to try and reprogram the youth (which is brain washing, in some form), that'll be effective AND get approved at a governmental level by all the people who need to approve some of this size? Not gonna happen. Every politician is going to be fighting to get their messaging in there. Every minority group is gonna be fighting to get their group's message in there, and in the end you'll get an ugly mis-match of messaging that has no consistency, is likely ridiculously corny, and is extremely over-the-head so kids don't want to listen.
Tate didn't become popular because he normalized misogyny, you're not understanding why kids turn to him. Tate fills a gap. There are very few manly men in the public eye - it's all about "feelings" and "being heard" and all these other soft concepts that have developed and grown over the past 30 years and now DOMINATE the social discourse in schools and what-not. Tate arose out of a lack of good male role models. In a world where people babble constantly about "mansplaining" and 'toxic masculinity" and "the patriarchy", he comes along ripped, with women, and expensive cars, and tells boys they're fuckin awesome just the way they are, and that their generic behavior isn't toxic, it's normal, and so on and so forth, which validates the feelings they have but are written off by society. ......and then he goes on to talk about how it's all women's fault, and that you need to better yourself to become awesome, etc. etc. It's GOOD messaging *mixed* with TOXIC messaging. His access to them is the good messaging, the media only focuses on the toxic messaging. If he was ONLY about misogyny he'd have no audience except some incels. But he validates normal thoughts boys have in that phase where they're turning into men. He also talks about getting money, and becoming successful, and a master of themselves. Tate is the result of a society that pushes boys hard to the left. In the same way rock & roll was a liberal counter-response of the youth to the conservative moral panic, Tate's ideas that men are awesome is a push-back to the 4th wave feminism that has been shoved down the thoughts of kids in the past 10 or whatever years.
And that's exactly why a massive government program will fail. It'll be as obvious to them that it's pandering as a DEI hammer to the forehead, and it won't validate ANY of their internal struggles. It won't tell them anything good about themselves, it'll just be "the message" - the same message that drove them into Tate's arms, shoved down their throats by somebody else. And similarly, the message won't take hold then either.
I probably didn't explain this in the best wording, but IMO you're not understanding at all why Tate exists if you think this will combat people like him. He's the expected outcome in a society that thinks boys and girls are interested in the same things.

I'm an Aussie and I can't explain how much that double homicide story has rippled across the entire country. Something like this is so incredibly rare here. And with one of the victims being a TV personality, it's been especially huge.
The police have undeniably handled it terribly. I understand it's one of their own, but that is all the more reason to treat it carefully, not make flippant and cringey Taylor Swift references. Although, for context, Taylor is currently touring Aus, so it's not out of nowhere. But it's not a case of "haters gonna hate", but that people want transparency and consequences for these innocent lives being taken. In today's society especially, police should be seen holding one of their own accountable, like that chief that was drunk. Only this was a senseless murder, not a drunk nuisance. There's no excuse for treating it like a joke.

Social Media companies want to stand behind Section 230, calling themselves a utility, when it benefits them while at the same time claiming to be news media with editorial control in this case. Can't have it both ways.

My thoughts on surge pricing are that it can really matter on two factors: how apparent it is to the buyer and buyer choice.
For the first point, will you be told upfront that all prices are increased by a certain amount (in a very visible manner) or will it just be a slight change to prices. I can imagine folks only noticing the difference once they get the total and being told to go to the next window. What do you do then? Just abandon your order?
As for the second point, if you don’t have a ton of options, what do you do when you roll up to the order board and see that the prices are higher? Do you have other options? Do you have the time to potentially wait again?

ok but actually that cop slamming his chief was the coolest thing I've seen a cop do in ages. his boss, who is off duty, shows up drunk and starts interfering with the guys job and then tries to man handle him out of doing his job? yeah dude, tell your boss to go home before he does something stupid.

Fast food is already far too expensive for what you get. This just reinforces the reason to stay away from fast food restaurants, and instead put that cash into a local place. That's when it's "affordable" to buy take out.

If social media companies get to dictate what does and doesn't get posted on their site, they should be held liable for the misinformation. After all they have control over what gets posted don't they?

All the lies and misinformation that the news on both sides perpetuate everyday is astounding. This world is not moral anymore. The ones running the shows only pretend to be moral. And even the pretending is starting to go out the window.

I've been living in South Korea for the last two years and they REALLY try to do their best to keep everything "in house". Want to use Google maps? Too bad, gotta use kakao or naver. Uber? Nope kakao T. Want to order delivery? Well unless you're ordering directly from the restaurant, apps like coupang only work for korean bank accounts.
I don't hate Korea, and how far it's come in the last 10 years, let alone since the Korea war, is nothing short of a Miracle. But the culture is extremely stubborn and resistant to change. As much as I've enjoyed my time here I can't wait to come back to the u.s.

We have a sort of dynamic pricing in Italy. Restaurant use different price points on different days (the weekend vs Mon to Fri for example). Prices are still fixed and you can check them out beforehand, but depending on when you go, you might pay more than other times. Some restaurants don't use this but they're rare, and people barely notice, let alone complain.

To give Wendy's credit, what they were planning on was using AI and dynamic pricing schedules to lower the prices of goods during slower times of the day to try to bring people in. Kind of like how Taco Bell did their "Happy Hour" drinks bit, but more fluid.

For the dynamic pricing, here in the UK the largest pub company here does this, they up their prices by minimum 50p and upto £2 depending on whats going on, working during the last world cup the price of every drink went up by £1.50 they were raking in cash while not giving us their staff any bonus for smashing sales targets so it’s just a way for them to get more profit and expolite the working class even more

McDonald's already has adaptive pricing outside of the US; I'm currently in Malaysia. The way they're implementing it is through the digital ordering kiosks and online orders; drive-thru menus have been digital for some time now. You can't order from the counter anymore.
From what I've noticed, it's only during peak lunch and dinner times. It's about a 10% increase.
Another insane thing they have implemented here is the McDonald's drive-thru annual pass. If you don't have it, your order will have a surcharge on it for using the drive-thru. Some locations even charge people to park, if they don't have the McDonald's annual pass.
The main difference between McDonald's and Wendy's is that McDonald's is everywhere. The takeaway, with how globalized everything is, companies slowly roll out and test these different changes in smaller regions, where they won't be as negatively impacted. Then they make adjustments and bring it back home to the US market. Just like Netflix with subscriptions + adds.
