    Aren't you overlooking the line that after Nb4 white can play Bd3? That stops the queen check on e4. Black may get the advantage of trading knight for bishop but that is not quite the same disaster as outlined here

      I'm glad somebody else noticed this, I was going to comment on it if no one else had. The line I'm looking at goes
      7. Bd3, Bf5
      8. o-o, Nxd3
      9. cxd3, e6
      White is definitely behind, with doubled pawns on the D file, and black has a better start on development, but it's a playable position, even if it's ugly. But please let me know if I missed something.

    • @SevenTheJester
      @SevenTheJester Před rokem

      There's also a variation where black plays 7. ..., e6 to try to develop the dark square bishop, but in that line white actually comes out ahead. After:
      7. Bd3, e6
      8. o-o, Nxd3
      9. Qxd3
      Then
      9. ..., Bd6 makes it +1.3 for white or
      9. ..., Bb4 gives us +1.8 for white.

      @SevenTheJester Před rokem

      Don't get me wrong, though...I don't want to seem like I'm criticizing. Bd3 is a relatively hard move to find, and according to Lichess, only around 450 people have ever played it, out of more than two million games.
      So, yeah...this trap is definitely going to work way more often than not, and it's definitely worth knowing...I was just saying that it's not irrefutable. Still a great video, and I wasn't trying to imply otherwise. ✌️

    What if they play Be3 instead of attacking the knight? That blocks the check before it even happens.

    So I ran this trap and the opponent took a suspiciously long time to make a move (~2 minutes of the 5 minute timer) after I delivered the check with the Queen. Then they found Kb2. I suspect they ran it through Stockfish. I still won though.
