    Picking my ten favorite Tull songs would, frankly, be impossible. The sheer volume of amazing music is incomprehensible. I mean , seriously, I know the R&R HOF is a joke, but jiminy frickin christmas, how stupid can the election committee be to NOT have Jethro Tull inducted? We had the pleasure of Martin Barre's current band playing twice at the 400 seat Strand Theater in little Hudson Falls, NY. The 1st time in September 2018 was mind-blowing and the band loved the theater so much they came back in April 2019 to rehearse for a week and then open their 50 Years Of Jethro Tull US tour here. Clive was on drums for that along with band drummer Darby Todd. Fantastic 2 long sets spanning the band's career. Great meet n greet after, they're so nice with the fans. Plans to return this year were scrapped for now.

    Thank you guys for showing the best box sets on the market. Full marks and kudos to Jethro Tull, Parlaphone and Chrysalis for giving the record buying public all they want and more
    at affordable prices as opposed to some millionaires putting out reissues and needing you to sell the farm. Marillion is the other band that is doing great sets. Steven Wilson is the best producer and a genius. Love all the JT sets and I have grown very fond of Minstrel in the Gallery and War Child. I hope that they will reissue Broadsword and Crest of a Knave.

    I had been meaning to upgrade/expand my Jethro Tull collection for years, then Pardo springs these Steve Wilson 40th Anniversary editions on me a few months back.
    They looked killer, so I went and bought three right away. When they arrived I was blown away. They are so friggin' cool. Excellently done, excellently mixed, tons of rare stuff, live stuff, etc. I don't know why more bands haven't adopted this book-style presentation. I love it. Needless to say I have now bought ten of the twelve, still needing Thick As a Brick and Songs From the Wood. Those are still quite pricey, as are some of the others, but I've scored some really good deals considering.
    Buyer's warning, as I'm sure they'll mention in the video, Benefit, while a Steven Wilson remix, is not in the book-style format. And guess what? I actually bought that one twice. I got a little tipsy one night and forgot I bought it and then purchased it again a few days later. For $25 more than I bought the first one! Demon alcohol.

    • @henrikv3199
      @henrikv3199 Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, the book-style presentation of the Tull remixes done by WIlson is rather unique. I can only think of a Marillion box set of Misplaced Childhood (that also included remixing done by Steven Wilson) and box set of prog rock band Yes from 2008 being in a very similar format. But the latter one is a career-spanning compilation, and not album-based like the tull-series.

    Still crossing my fingers that we'll get a 50th Anniversary Edition of Benefit in book format, which would be this year too. Live at Carnegie Hall oughta included too which would be a bonus even if it were to be remixed by either Wilson or Jakko Jakszyk.
    I've also begun compiling remixed versions that would have ended up on the Living in the Past album, however, some of those tracks like the last 3 songs from the Life Is a Long Song EP and The Witch's Promise for example - their multi-track tapes are currently unavailable therefore cannot currently be remixed. Also, the live tracks from Carnegie Hall are the only tracks needed to complete my compilation. And I decided to leave Wond'ring Aloud, Again as is. :D
    And while I do own the Thick as a Brick book, I do hope we'll get a reissue as the unmastered version of the stereo remix which is currently available as a digital download only, needs to be included in a physical format.

    Thanks for all of this guys. Tull's legacy cannot be denied. I am a huge Tull appreciator; have all the box sets, in fact I have multiples (3-4 copies) of all of them...just in case I want to sell a couple in the future! TAAB is the really scarce one...the 5.1 of TAAB has to heard to be believed.....go on, spend that $500 on it, if it comes up on eBay.
    I understand that the 50th Anniversary Benefit book box (like the others) will be coming out...so be prepared.
    The one track from the vaults that really is an absolute ear worm and classic is "Tomorrow Was Today" from the War Child box......how that track wasn't released originally back in 1974 I have no idea....it took 40 years i.e. 2014 to actually be released. As Pete said; Anderson sat on so many of these, yet the majority of the ones that didn't quite "cut the mustard" to be included on Tull albums are brilliant.
    Jack you pronounce Martin's second name as "Bear".....100% sure it's pronounced "Bar".

    Being a big Tull fan I was fortunate to meet Ian Anderson a few times and on three different occasions he signed my original vinyl newspaper copy of 'Thick As A Brick', the '20 Years of Jethro Tull' box set and 'A Passion Play'. The Passion Play' was amusing as I attended a small intimate gathering of fans in London, England where Ian introduced a screening of a documentary on the band made by a Polish filmaker. Afterwards, we were able to ask Ian many questions about music, the band, songwriting etc. When it came to 'A Passion Play' Ian was not overly favourable on the record and I eventually gave him a copy to sign, which made him smile and I suggested that perhaps, in time, he would be a little kinder to the album. I have to admit that the only Tull album in my collection that was remixed by Steven Wilson is Aqualung, and he did a damn fine job, I must say. I don't know if this was the case with all pressings, but the remaster (from the '90s with an interview with Anderson at the end) that was out prior to it was an absolute atrocity. Couldn't hear shit without turning the volume all the way to the top.
    I guess you can call me a purist, in general. For example, I can't stand the 2007 Genesis remixes (I'm a detail guy, and details and nuances that I love about Genesis' songs got completely buried), so I sold them eventually. I own the Steven Wilson ELP 2CD+DVD-audio remix packages. I prefer the original mixes on all of those, but at least in those packages, you have the option to choose which mix you prefer to listen to.
    By the way, my favorite Tull album is Minstrel In The Gallery.

    Take care guys and thanks for the overview of the series.

    Luckily I managed to get all the Tull 40th book/box sets at retail as they were released, with the notable exception of TAAB, which was the first one and is just too obscenely priced for my wallet !! All are exceptional value for money and appear to be great investments. I've heard varying reports that they may end the series with Stormwatch, and other reports that they may continue up through Broadsword, although I am almost certain Steven Wilson's involvement ended with Stormwatch. Guess we shall see... I can't see Ian passing up a possible revenue stream, but those 80's Tull albums were hit and miss.

Not got Aqualung though because I've got it in the edition including the vinyl, can't bring myself to change it as Aqualung was the first record I brought with my own money age 11, haven't got the original vinyl anymore but the box set was a wonderful replacement with the surround sound and full size cover. Shame the original lyric insert wasn't done but you can't have everything. These box sets are the way to do it. There's currently no Wilson remix of Carnegie Hall. Reason it wasn't included on the Benefit "Remix" was mainly due to the fact that they hadn't considered live performances in the earlier sets. There needs to be a 50th Anniversary of Benefit which would also have to include Carnegie Hall too. 😊

    • @rabarebra
      @rabarebra Před 2 lety

      Universal tried that over 10 years ago with the Pure Audio-line of Blu-rays. Faded out in oblivion because people did not understand high resolution audio and 5.1 mixes or didn't care about it, and the majority of people stream music these days.
      A blu-ray is approx 50GB, and your wish to have all albums on one disc is not possible. What you can do is to stream high resolution 5.1 mixes from Apple Music.

The reason Senjutsu by Iron Maiden is the #1 selling release in American music history, physical media! sales! When you compress music is sounds terrible. Saw Tull first time on the Stormwatch Tour in New Haven Ct New Haven Coliseum ( which is no more a train station parking lot)
    Stormwatch S.W box set besides Songs From The Wood is the best box set of the bunch great live cd disc. Stormwatch is Tulls heaviest an most underrated album IT IS GREAT North Sea Oil, Orion(DARK AGES one of Tulls best songs Could be Martins heaviest guitar,) Somethings on the Move, Dun Ringill, King Henrys Madrigal ,Elegy a great instrumental of of only 3 songs John Glasscock plays on ,Orion, and the other escapes me right now???
    The last time I saw Ian a couple of years ago very disappointed great to see Ian but without Martin just doesn't do it for me , plus a few of the songs there was a backdrop screen with some girl an guy singing part of Heavy Horses an Songs from the Wood I mean terrible but good to see Ian anyways even though he's lost his voice a bit understandable for his age still a great performer.
