I hate this trend. Very similar to the fake vents and fake exhaust tips.
I don’t understand why you think this is fake though lol this is quite literally an aerodynamic device, that actually provides something to the car
Were going backwards, bringing back hubcaps and plastic bumpers etc.
"It's ze not plaztic it's ze polymer"- Mercedes probably
Or a high-tech ultra-lightweight polycarbonate.
throw in the term "cutting edge" as well
Not cheap, but necessary IMO..once the design was finalized plastic or similar may be the better option for the material 🤔:
1. Safety - while the vehicle is stationary, they look like a child safety hazard; for eg. If they were based on sharper, thinner, metal-based or similarly rigid material.
2. Damage - damage from road debris or curbs would leave dents/bends in the structure, requiring repair.
3. Noise - once (2.) above occurs, it may defeat the purpose as well as introduce additional noise to the experience.
4. Weight - goes without saying.
They took a leaf out of Tesla’s book. Tesla uses plastics to cover the alloys to get a better coefficient of drag.
I think they take the look away from the wheels and the car, seen them on a few of the AMG’s now and the wheels design would look far better without the extra bit.
Can you remove them like in a Tesla? They look hideous in all Mercedes models.
If they make them of anything else it's going to add weight to the wrong place. Cheap it's hard to find a intake manifold that's not made of plastic that is way worse if you ask me.
makes sense why they do it as weight saving. However question is how will the plastic fair after a few years with the constant heat cycle of heaving braking and cold..
If it works… fine with me. If u damage it then u don’t have to replace the wheel just the plastic
It depends... Does it really works?
Why couldn't they make the entire wheels alloy
@@giuscillig4273 Weight. All cars are getting heavier and heavier but rotational mass in particular will impact the performance significantly.
You want your wheel to be as light as possible. Also it's much easier to repair(replace) when you, or your SO, curbs the wheel.
of coruse alot of people want a full alloy wheel, but if you need a replacement you will be happy about the lower price you have to pay
If the plastic in question gets damaged the alloy will also be damaged
This is still unknown material for us . . . 😁
I buy alot of vehicles and with confidence tell you don't bother with anything newer than 2010. Mercedes has gone downhill BIG TIME. Way to much plastic and way to much technology that 90% of owners/ drivers never use or even want on their vehicles.
2000 - 2010 was peak car before emissions and pointless technology took over (stop start - keyless go - speed warnings - electric steering - etc - etc) … I have a 2009 3 series convertible and it feels solid compared to newer cars
@@JIMMYHIBBS1Couldn't have said it better. After 2010 they've run out of actually useful innovations. So they just stuff in stupid gimmicks and pretend it's "progress"
I have no idea but it maybe they cant use to metal there for saftey reasona but I could also be totally wrong
They’re appearing on a few cars now. I’d need to be convinced about the efficiency gains as they look bloody awful to me.
Can you do versus with 911 turbo s which the best please...
A Bit Cheap??!! It’s a frickin dealbreaker!!!
Huh. Interesting. I see the concept. Makes sense to me.
It's plastic so that the carbon fibre ones are optional add ons
Weight savings and appeal to wider consumers (accessibility) that’s the game I guess
How can you say aerodynamic efficiency when this AMG GT gains 600lbs over the previous generation? 🤔
It's just plain cheap until you have to replace them.
If they covered the edge of the rim as a protection against kerbing, then yeah, great. As they don't, then get rid
Manufacturing that with alloy would hv been so much expensive, complicated and unnecessary.
For Aerodynamics, yet saving on weight as well…? Not the aesthetic Merc, not the aesthetic.
So if it is plaßticit shouldbe cheaper?🤔
Ha! Premium cheapness.
But what is wrong with plastic? You'd prefer silicone yea?
Just waiting for Hasbro to come to the market
They are very cheap looking need to consider something different and when speccing the car from new many owners no doubt will opt for the alternative which I guess will cost a lot more than the standard wheel
Rory … did Mercedes stop and Halfords or Poundland for those??’
Some agressive wheel cleaner and that plastic is gone 😅
Weight savings for unsprung mass. It's fine.
Looks good, weight saving I’m guessing
Someday they will make a "polymer" bonnet 😅
It means they're removable in a sense
You did not just reference Barbie Girl 😔
For the tag price cheep
After learning a "quality" lesson from owning a GLC43 for a very short and horrid time, I don't really care what Merc does as I won't be buying another one! Very expensive, cheap rubbish, in my opinion. Admittedly the engine was a peach though.
That’s an AMG GT *63*, the fat relative of the GT family
They couldn't be bothered to make this out of carbon?
They will snap eventually and be a grand for a set plus fitting £1500 job and people will pay it
Horrible, makes the wheels look smaller!
Mercedes definitely guilty of using cheap plastics and cheap materials. Even in the interiors, it’s shocking.
Looks horrible, I have a model 3 LG with 18 but the car costs 3 times less and has full plastic.
Cheap is the new normal.
It’s not surprising…
Weight saving?
Cheap outro. Summed up it. Cheap. Sadly. And why ...
If the car was electric, I would kind of expect it, but why aren't Mercedes using Carbon Fibre? 🤷🏼♂️
Shame on these companies
Don't care. Overrated brand.
🙄 plastic in cars = cheap 🤔
HELL YEAH 😂😂 CHEAP AS F@&$ !!! Spend that much on a car just to have plastic bits 👎🏻👎🏻
They look like cheap wolfrace wheels from Halfords.
What the?
I can only assume it’s for Weight saving especially in the unsprung mass this bad boy weighs more than a Tesla model Y! LOL.
If they provide arrow, why make it heavier than it should be?
And then again: I think the manufacturers of non-racetrack performance cars highly overestimate what their showboating drivers will do with their cars...
Mercedes is in an epic battle for the ugliest rim on the market.....so far they have a very large gap over their opponents
Uhhhh... brother..Uhhhh... what's that brother🤢
I would rather save weight
Awfully cheap. Frightful , would make me turn my back on this car and consider an alternative among the competitors 😅
My neighbour has an A45 AMG with these wheels - they do look good 👍
Light and cheap. Perfect.
Cheap.
And breakable
The plastic will break… cheapskate merc, overprice n lousy quality
I think they are great... Petrol price is sky rocketing
Cheap
Bruuuh
Cheap!
Cheapppp
#cheap
Cheap 😅
Cheap lol
Cheap .
cheap...cheap
couldn't care less
🫣😂💩
Cheap 😂😂😂😂😂
😂 cheap
Mercedes isnt the same anymore. Its complete BS. Only Maybach version is the only good one
CHEAP
It is cheap. But they are also LIGHTWEIGHT.
People dont remember stuff like that often but yeah its still cheap to fit plastic instead of carbon, but at the end of the day that car costs about 35k to make, anything after that is pure profit and if you buy a car like that or similar value to it youre literally a complete idiot
So cheap cheap 😳Mind blowing thing from merc 🤯🫣
Cheap!
Cheap
Cheap!
Cheap!
Cheap
Cheap
