    Most commenters are misreading this lady. She regurgitates info well but for someone who spent as much time and research as she did on CIA and military issues she doesn't give any criticisms of it. Her outlook towards the institutions flies much closer to admiration rather than questioning them. See the title of this video here, "do we need the military industrial complex" to which she offers an incredibly simplistic answer that doesn't acknowledge any of the major problems we as a country face due to our massive spending and military overreaches.

      @biggeneral1628 Před 5 lety

      For someone who has written six books that is an incredibly simplistic answer.
      One can be a critic and a journalist without an ideological bent. This lady has all this knowledge on the topic at hand yet offers very little information of substance. She was given the chance to access all her sources because she made it clear to the powers that be that nothing in her book would be critical or negative to them. For an agency as maligned as the CIA it is not coincidental that she has very little negative things to say

    • @coltonwhite2518
      @coltonwhite2518 Před rokem +1

      The military industrial complex is a lot older than people think. It's concept predates most modern countries, even the US. A good example would be during the age of exploration when Empire's would use privateers to "confiscate" goods and materials from merchant vessels to which a percentage was given to them and the rest would cover the cost of their services, basically a government license to get rich off of plundering and capturing ships regardless if they were civilian or not. Or the Italian city states using rival mercenaries to cut down the cost of fielding armies while enriching their economy with the spoils, only to have those same mercenaries inevitably hire out to the enemy and repeat the cycle in order to keep the war going. Even Sun Tzu briefly alludes to it in the Art of War when he claims prolonged conflicts should be avoided unless the Sovereign firmly knows how the state can financially benefit from drawn out periods of conflict. As the previous comment pointed out, the Roman Empire practically was the military industrial complex, considering they were at war most of the time with either themselves or another nation and always managed to profit from it.

      Despite keeping this comment short, I am so guilty of cranking it out on social media comments but couldn’t stand the idea of writing an essay in a high school classroom... great observation, great comment.

    Missions are exciting until you have to write the report. That’s the part they leave out of the James Bond type movies. Or you come home & a day later they come at you & say, you gotta go to another spot. You say, I just got back yesterday. They say, I know. Then they say, I still need that report.

      Fun & games until you see the REAL impact of 🇺🇸 SOF; 90% divorce rate(first marriage) 30% chance you will be dead by 30 years old. 😬. A 1 in 10 chance you will die in a training accident or be killed due to a error every FY. 🙄. Approx 47% of all SpecWar SOF; SWCC, SEALs EOD get medical retired or are "unfit" for sea duty prior to a 20yr enlistment. Also by USAF own records; STS, CSAR, Pararescue 🚑🚒🏥 has approx 90% failure rate. In the 1980s, Pararescue units had NO ONE pass all sections of mandated training for several years.
