The US is building 5 new bases in Somalia. The bases will house the elite US-trained "Lightening" Brigade. Somalia's lightening brigade has been leading the fight against the terror group Al-Shabaab. But is that their only target? The military build-up comes as tensions are rising between Somalia, Ethiopia and the disputed region of Somaliland. Should Ethiopia and Somaliland be worried? Somalia for the key strategic strait of Aden and red sea. Alernatives to Djbouti which exists and runs its economy hosting everyone's military bases. Afghanistan is not as strategically important as Somalia to counter China, Iran and get quick access to protect allies in the Middle East. Can also, address the nuisance from houthis and Somali pirates. Yes, it all about the oil. America can get access to minerals from south america than from far to Afghanistan, where China and India will counter and compete - which is good for Afghanistan. All these are beneficial for the under developed countries, as their economies will overall grow.
So, while the US is busy building military bases in Africa and looking for countries to ship weapons to, China is building hospitals, schools, housing, road and rail networks, airports and also giving monetary loans. Just tell me, who is really your friend and who will you rather have as ally?

The founder of Al-Shabab terrorists and the majority of the fighters hail from this clan (Isaaq). Somali today was the Kingdom of Punt 3000 years ago, then the AJURAN Empire (Ajuran Empire was the one who liberated the Sawahili world from the Portuguese) up to 17 century and then ADAL Empire. If you look at the Ajuran and Adal Empire territorial map, what was Ethiopia, you will see a big difference. The reason is that the Western colonisers annexed 2 regions of Somalia to Ethiopia (the Ogaden region and the reserve area, where some 15 million somalis and their land is located) So, Ethiopian people ancestors never had or reached a coastal land like the Congolese, Switzerland, Niger, ...ect. What you suggest is why an African nation can not take another african people land like the western colonisers.

After that MOU with Somaliland, Somalia started talking about sovereignty and all, but come on. Foreign military bases, including Turkey's & USA's, have been in Somalia for ages. The UAE was already in Somaliland for years yet we heard no opposition. We made that deal with Somaliland fair and square, looking out for our interests there. We were hoping for a better offer but threats, Rly? These moves harm Somalia way more than us because I don't think the Somaliland deal will go through ( just because of the internal opposition in Ethiopia), but these hyenas you've invited won't leave your country easily.
I gotta say, Ethiopia's only interest in Somalia and Somaliland is for security and to do business. Remember when we had to deal with the Islamic Courts (which Alshabab was a member of) and Siad Barre? That was all about defending ourselves. We've been working hard to stabilize the region, partnering up with other African countries through AMISOM, and fighting Al-Shabaab. We've been the ones putting in the most effort to keep things together. We are the ones who protected the government and most of the country.
It's frustrating how the West uses your hostility towards us to cozy up, even though they're the ones who funded and backed us with the Islamic Courts dismantling in the first place. They're getting rewarded with bases, and we're getting Threats.
I'm telling you, it's a risky move to push us away and buddy up with countries that are just gonna use and dump Somalia. Look at Ukraine, man. We need to be smart about foreign influence and exploitation. Africa needs to stick together and watch out for each other. They will leave after they suck you dry but we will always be here. Remember when Siad was so confident in the Russians and invaded us just for them to flip sides.

Those trained troops are going to be used to enforce Somalia's interests by the leadership which is currently planning an attack on somaliland as well as Ethiopia. The timing of this expansion is very conspicuous. Egypt, Turkey and USA have said that they will support this move to take back Somaliland as soon as we signed the MOU with them.
