Broke my femur playing ice hockey in March, walking with a limp and working hard at the gym, pool, and rehab--go a nice message from Taylor: "stick with it! It's the days you don't want to rehab but battle thru that make the biggest difference 👊🏻" Thanks for the inspirational story and support. For all the other broken legs out there--never give up, put in the work, fight for it!

Wow, I broke my left Femur in March this year too while playing ice hockey in school. I collided to the boards when I was going to get the puck exactly like Taylor. The bone came right trough the skin and my buddies told me not to look, but of fucking course I looked :D I was laying on the ice for 15 minutes so my body temperature dropped so much that I started to shake and It hurt so bad. I've started to go to gym now with light weights and I am allowed to start training on Full weights in 15 days. That's so cool that we are soulmates :)

Broke mine in 5 spots and it took 11 months to walk again. It's a life long injury, had a full revision 2 years later because it was a non union. Shitty part is about a month ago I lifted something wrong and snap! Now I cracked the cadaver graph and broke the rod. Full revision once again this Monday ... It's been a lifelong injury but gotta keep your head up and keep moving forward.

I remember watching this when I broke my left femur in 2013. Brings back a lot of memories to say the least. It was very inspiring, helpful, and made me feel not so alone. Someone else said it in the comments, but the people you know will not understand the pain and degree of difficulty that comes with this injury. And that makes sense, right? You can't expect people to know what they don't know or have never experienced. At any rate, it is a life changing injury, for me it was at least. I will forever never have full leg/knee flexion, have arthritis now at 37, and vastis lateralis atrophy. BUT - life changing does not have to mean living a life without being physically active and getting better and stronger. I get myself in the gym, lift, stretch, and work on stabilizing my knee joint and strengthening all parts of my body responsible for balance. Don't sit still. Don't accept complacency. Don't give in.
TL;DR - If you have this kind of injury - WORK HARD. YOU CAN DO IT.

I broke my femur skim boarding in 2015 and the surgery caused nerve damage in my leg from the knee down. I don’t want this to be a pain competition, but the nerve damage was absolutely terrible. Nerve damage was far worse than the break. My foot and leg felt like someone was taking little pins and pricking my skin. I couldn’t even move my foot for over half a year. I never thought I was going to move my foot completely again. I have fully recovered from the break after 3 surgeries and my nerve damage has gone away. The only thing that bothers me is I don’t have 100% feeling in my foot and my foot and extra sensitive to pain. But I am back to exercising and doing what I love.

Broke my left femur at the shaft and neck points 3 months ago. I was admitted in hospital for 6 days. On the first day, I underwent a nail fixation surgery. I was discharged when on two crutches and advised to go back for first review after a month. Three months after the surgery, the pain in the upper femur had eased considerably. X- ray images showed that the fracture at the neck of the femur had healed completely but the fracture in the shaft was still not intact though there were indications of formation of new bone tissues around it. The doctor then advised me to start using only one crutch (the right one). So this is the fourth month since the surgery was done.and am waiting for another 3 months before I go for the next review. I look forward to walking again without any walking aid.....

Hi Arjun, It totally depends on the level of injury and your body metabolism. If one has multiple fracture then it will heal really very slow.I underwent surgery last year in May still I am recovering .In my case there is a slight fragment of Bone which is still about to get stick(Last Xray done 2 months back ).Well docs can only give you medicine and advise .But it takes it own sweet time .But if you are young and doing physio religiously it will heal fast .Now I am able to walk without any support .Wish you a speedy recovery.
