Great job. this build is coming out really nice.
Thanks Mike! I appreciate all the help! =)
CT, what I admire is your willingness to try new things. You just jump in and figure it out on the way. 👍👍
Thanks Mike! Overcoming the fear is the hardest part. 👍
Very cool that some fabricators took time to make parts for loved vehicles. Thank you to all Fabricators.
Hey Bryan, I agree. It's really amazing how the can make this repair sections.
@@CTmoog Sure is
Before you work on the passenger side, weld you a new cross brace in higher up before you cut out your cross brace you have in now. That way you have something to hold it in place before you cut out the A pillar to weld in the new one.
Brother that is very nice job fitting that new metal. The door can be tricky but first you should complete the metal work
Keep in mind you're learning as you move thru these metal fabrication videos, and doing very well as you continue in your pursuit to bring these projects back to being solid pieces, tanks for sharing...you're awesome / fearless...KEEP IT UP, "TEXAS"
What type of welding is best for these jobs?
Great job, make sure the lower door hinge is straight up and down. Use the Jack to hold the door up. Loosen the door screws some and do top or bottom first not both at same time. I know from my own experience with my old car.
What a thrill that must have been when that door just closed perfectly. Great job.
That is the last thing you do on a restration . Adjust the doors . Even when you put the egine in the whole thing can change because of the wheight.
@@patshes1951 and if it has the engine before it would not change the weight
Amazing progress keep up 🤩👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Well done got into the welding. Try and stay on this job and you got it.
It takes real knowledge and experience to know where the rust spots congregate, certain areas seem to be water traps on most models, and selling just section pieces to preserve original metal.all the additives to paint to protect from salt on the air and land, precious treasures the air cools
Good quality repair panels by the look of them. Makes your job easier and better. Keep going and I'll keep following.
Compared to how it was, it's amazing to see so much done already. Your welding is getting better and better. It's a big learning curve, especially getting everything to line up right, so hard with all those curves. Nice job!!
Thank you!!! =) 😎
That’s looking awesome! Great job! That’s a load of metal work to be done right! And your getting there!👌😎👍
It’s 1,000% better than it was before the repair. On to the next repair challenge!
great job and your video is well done.
Awesome Work CT !!! Your getting better all the time ! One step at a time ! Live Life ! Straight Ahead ✌😎
Thanks Mike! 😎😎😎
So far I've been pleased with what seen now you can come help me with mine, and I'll be your favorite deputy!! I got a 68 beetle myself and been catching hell with the past couple of years so many set backs!!
So nice to see you are braver, and crossing your earlier borders. Well done!
Just finished watching your latest video. You are a natural with the body work. Keep up the great work 👍 I truly enjoy your videos and look forward to watching them. Thanks.
Seen that video too. Have two beetles myself. Bought a new superbeetle in 73 why I’m so interested. I’ll keep looking
Hey CT. I've been following this build closely because I have 7'1 Super Beetle project car that has some rust which will require new metal. Watching you patiently work through your metal work is inspiring to me, to the point I feel I can attempt to do the metal work on my bug. (Fortunately, my rust is not as bad as yours.) Your videos show the real-world DIY process and spirit one will can expect in doing roadstoration work. Thanks so much. And best of luck in your continuing rebuild oh your '65.
Way to go CT, your kickin it. Love the patina!
I have a 1966 beetle and you're making me really want to start restoring mine.
Fantastic work. Very methodical and well done; one bite at a time. At this pace the outcome will be optimal. Don’t get discouraged by the door not aligning perfectly at first; remember everything is not fully welded and you are missing additional panels. That will give the body a lot more rigidity. You got the pillar where you want it.
I'd like to see this car completely repainted. I get the whole patina thing but since you are already cutting into the body, it almost makes sense to do the whole thing now.
Yeah I with you on the paint topic but CT is the creator. I would do the bug in white paint on white interior. For those hot days in Florida.
Thats what they said about the 55 panel I just did, but it still worked😉
Sorry, I don't get the patina thing. For me it just looks like someone did not have enough money or motivation to do a decent paint job.
One thing I like about vintage glass is the frosted edges that the windshields get
But that might get you in trouble with the police…..
Nice job... You have a way about working things out that I admire very much. Keep up the great work. I am enjoying watching the progress on this project.
Ct when you fit the doors ,its better to remove the lock ,so you can see how the seems and the lines of the bodywork run without the doorlock mechanisme screwing things up ,your doing a great job on it ,👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Charles! I will try that this week.
Hi CT,
The Beetle is good on to way to hav a strong body so go on the way you’re doing
friend, you do a magnificent job in this emblematic car in the world, your workshop has all the adjustments to work in the best way, and your workmanship is great, you do an excellent job, big hug from the Southeast of Mexico. Blessings.
Nice work, I was trying to repair some bad areas on my heater duct, but after been watching your videos, I believe that I will take your courage and replace the heaters as you did. Look awesome and I need it if I want my 68 looks awesome as yours.
Awesome seeing your video updates, I was about to have withdrawals! 😂🤣 Beautiful work, I like the way you snuck up on the figment.
'SHOW" - BRAZIL ! Congratulations.
Awesome job on the heater channels, this pillar came out well can't wait for the rest man keep it up!!
Great job CT !
Thanks Michael! 😎
Excellent job and video. Congratulations!!!
that was hard going but you stuck with it..well done! patience pays off!
Looking good, nice work CT!
You do nice work! I got the impression that you aren’t going to paint this thing when you’re done, in the name of patina? Why would you go to all of this trouble and not paint it too? I do not understand.
You are killing it CT.
Great job! Such a cool car! //Peter
Great job. Restoring the Beetle wouldn't do for me as it has too much rust for me. But you'll make it look really good again. You have my respect for that.
i admire your courage to just start restaurating/welding
Great stuff ct, you needed a hookys hinge jig for that!!!!!
Hey Dave, is that a thing?
@@CTmoog most definitely, I have one, bought from hookypanels in the UK, spaces the hinge centres perfectly
when you go to paint it. Lay down white. And then your rust brown. 😉 sand most of the brown away and "blend" the rust paint with rust. And it should turn out good (giving a tip just incase 😅)
great progress keep going buddy
Awesome Video CT it is really coming on now
great job. you are very good at what you do. a hug from Brazil.
Un gran trabajo, veo que tu gran paciencia y dedicación ya está dando sus frutos. Felicitaciones 🙂👍👍
you are getting better with every video, you are great to watch and I believe you are doing a great job thanks for the video , by the way you could have used the jack under the door with a 2x4 in between to hold the door up while you screwed the door in the pillar
And to adjust up and down of rear of door use the bolts that bolt body to chassis, the 2 big ones under your fuel tank
nice progress. I'm no expert but if you have got that much drop/sag/movement in your door the problem is more than likely your hinges. you can't adjust that out with the screws on the a-pillar. you'll need new hinges or new pins for the hinges. a little bit of play in the hinges equals a lot of play when you get all the way out to the other end of the door. I'd look there first.
Thanks Annie! That is great advice. You look pro to me. Keep up the good work! =)
Great job CT!!
In for the journey with you man! Looking forward to the next vid.
Yup... My first car was a 65 Beetle...tons of fun.... we used to drive into snow drifts at 20 mph... there was Snow Everywhere!!
Looking good CT👍💯
Very impressive CT!
Thanks Graem! =)
REBUILD THE HINGES!
oh yeah...replace all rubber.
Rides very nice, looks like a sleeper.
👍
Nice work CT!! You nailed it!!!
Thanks brother! =)
Excellent video CT :) also doing in steps great heard and shown to in video! Happy seeing come in place on measurements during planning and very good too! Keep up excellent work to and like help on ideas too! One step small and get to medium
also bigger steps later too!
FYI I tack the piece in then cut right on top of the new piece. This gives the proper spacing for the butt weld and holds a true line.
Hey CT, if the body isn't completely bolted and torqued it will mess with the doors too, the service manual shows shimming the rear body mount to get the doors adjusted.
Thanks man! I need to get one of those service manuals.
Com certeza você está me encorajando a mexer no meu velho volkswagen , seus vídeos são ótimos , você entrega praticamente tudo mastigado, thank you !!!!!!!!!!
Outro br tbm acompanha a reforma dele
This is looking great.
Nice job man.
Great work. I definitely can't see myself doing this to my 1960 way too much work for me.
Mighty impressive work. The Raven will need the same, eventually…
I think part of your problem with the hinge is that the tack welds are only on the outer skin of the pillar.
The inner part will flex as this is where the door actually fasteners to.
Great work though it's great to see the progress.
If you get stuck at any point I have the VW workshop manual with all the measurements.
that work is going very well, we are still pending!!!
Hi CT, If you want to take your channel to the next level you should add a louvelere microphone to your shirt so we can hear you better when you are a distance from the camera. You are doing great wiith the build.
Good idea Don. I will look for one.
Great series, been here since you drug that heap from the dirt. Keep going!
Good work......👍
Hi,CT nice progress.greetings.Hubertus
Oh my gosh... you have some work ahead of you. At this rate this will be a multi-year series if you're planning on doing the entire car. Now I know why cars are generally totaled after what seems the smallest of fender benders... l
You are doing well good Job and luck 🤞
Tá ficando top trabalhar no fusca. Parabéns pelo serviço.
Good job. CT : -)
Boa tarde! Perfeito os reparos na estrutura. Parabéns. Silvio Bauru -sp 🇧🇷🇧🇷
You really are doing a great job buddy. It’s gonna be a nice little bug. Hey, I noticed it looked like the door jam striker is a little high. Have fun this week! Looking forward to watching your next video 😁🫵🏻👊🏻👍🏻
Thanks Stew! =) 👍 I'll take a look at the striker this week.
Well done great job
Excelente trabalho. Da gosto de ver o resultado de cada parte que você mexe. Também estou restaurando um fusca em casa e sei o quanto é trabalhoso, mas gratificante cada etapa vencida.
You will have to do some layer staggering there, because the vertical "tube" structure is made of 2 layers and you need to weld both. It's better to stagger joints, so it's not everything cut and welded in the same place, which reduces deformations and gives you a little extra holding power if some welds end up crooked, usually because unreachable.
Don't forget a pencil and paper to get exact shape allocation. Other than that, spare parts look quite nice, your work is also improving.. The important thing is that we learn every single day.
For door alignment, check if there was some gap between the heater channel upper edge and the pillar mount you tacked on the original, since it's quite rotten, the pillar base might be moved slightly backwards. Check twice, adjust once. 😉Also check for play in the hinges.. Those oldies many times have some play which messes up everything you do. Don't throw away originals untill you finish repairs. Cheers, Mr. CT, keep the flow going.👍
Also, the pillar is flexing when you open and close the door with it only being tacked on the top and bottom.
Good job! To adjust the door place ur jack under door lift slightly then make final adjustments. Also my wife likes the green on heater channels says ur should paint the whole car that color!
I got someone to do my a pillar, was too scared to tackle that job lol. Just like with the wiring.
Work fantastic
On the next Unsolved Mysteries- have you seen the missing Ghia? 😳
Can’t wait for the repaint
Já fiz muito este serviço! Sou funileiro aqui em Sergipe.👏👏
Desde México Puebla .....q bonito trabajo le estás haciendo a ese vocho así le llamamos aqui en mex ok .....mucha suerte
Doing a good job 😃
Bien hecho mucho trabajo , muy bien .
*Congratulation 😎👍.*
After having watched several videos about how to rebuild a rust - eaten VW Beetle, it has become quite clear to me that this is no DIY work, but has to be done by someone who has a lot of experience in a) autobody repair , b) preparing metal and paintwork, c) restoration of aircooled VW engines. Btw.: Did you know that Volkswagen also made a station wagon version of the Type 1302 / 1303 called the "VW Variant"? I saw these myself sometime in the late 1970s when I was a kid.
Not bad? Fantastic . . .
After watching Fitzee fabs and Mike FN videos are you gonna put weld through primer on the new steels and weld the backside of all the joints where possible. Cos this new content is absolutely brilliant, soon you gonna be doing rusty lols😂🎉😂
That's the plan! Thanks Jamie! Rusty is on the waiting list! =)
