Just bought mine in light blue. I haven’t ridden a bike in 45 years. Now I am retired and 69. After hip surgery 4 years ago, I still wanted to try riding a bike again. It’s just what I need. Great product!
In order to get something you have to give something up. So if you want comfort and an easy ride, you must give up a little speed. I hated my Townie when I first purchased it used. I didn't particularly appreciate losing momentum. Now I love it. You have to adapt to a laid back relaxed ride.
Lovely review. It makes no sense that the “his” frame is the only where you can hit your family jewels on. We should really stop tying step thru frames to gender
Wow! Just wow! 60 trails?! Great testimony for quality and comfort. Hope you have many more happy miles on it. Thanks so much for sharing and for watching!
Great video review! I just bought this for my wife two days ago and I got the EQ model with lights and fenders in curry with all the bells and whistles! Thanks y'all!
I’ve had back surgery. I used to be able to ride 30 miles every single time. Now, I deal with a lot of pain and burning pain in my legs. I have a Trek Verve 2, but have found it’s not comfortable enough for my condition. I’m thinking of getting one of these as a last resort before I have get a different style bike altogether.
So sorry to hear about your pain, friend. Not being able to do the things you’d like to do is heartbreaking. I hope the Electra works for you and brings you some joy. Thank you for watching.
I used to ride events including 2 day 150s and centuries then had major Back and Shoulders injuries and switched to the the Townie 9D during recovery. It let me stay on the road, once I checked my ego a little. But my joy of riding with the family has been restored
I love mine... got it about 8 years ago, however.. the seat is so painful... after about an hour on the bike... recommend this bike, but i would purchase a noseless seat, like VSeat.
I'm afraid this video didn't help me. I bought my Townie 7D Stepover 16 months ago when I decided to start riding after decades of being away from the pedals. It may be the best bicycle related decision I have ever made. It actually feels like a cross between a beach cruiser and a hybrid bicycle. The bike's inherent stability and low riding position made it easy to get back into things and the shifter and brakes are very easy to understand and use. The E-6 Hardcase tires are puncture resistant, and the bike feels pretty rugged. On the other hand, it comes with an aluminum frame, V-brakes and 7 gears so it does have the ability to get up and go when I feel the need for speed. I have since bought a Trek Verve 2 as a second bike and while it is entertaining, I was surprised to find that it isn't that much faster than the Townie. It is also a bit more fragile. I am a big guy and am not as light as I would like to be and I have had to replace quite a few parts on the Trek including the suspension seat post, the seat, and the rear wheel (which was breaking spokes) while the only thing I'd broken on the Townie was a rear axle from riding on a sidewalk that had a 2-3 inch drop. Other than that the Townie just keeps on trucking. It is still my favorite bike, and the one I use for my longer rides.
This is a dumb question I know but is it typical to always start off in 1st gear and shift up as you get going, or would it be more correct to start off in say 2nd or 3rd gear on a flat or downhill position when you might bot really need a super low gear?
Not a dumb question at all. If you’re on a downhill or anyplace where you will quickly pick up speed, starting off in a higher gear usually works well. Thanks for watching.
On my bikes I usually start off in an intermediate gear. On my 7 speed Townie I usually start off in 3rd or 4th gear and shift up to 5th to 7th when on the move. The lower gears are for hill climbing. On the Trek (which has 3 sprockets on the crank and 8 on the rear wheel) I use 2-5 or 2-6 to start off and try to shift up to 3-6 on level ground. I usually use 2-3, 2-4, and 2-5 for climbing and reserve the smallest front sprocket for serious climbing, like trying to ride up a pedestrian bridge.
How heavy is the step thru bike? I’m considering this or the Townie Path and maybe even the Trek Verve 2….This a very stable bike…I like that you can raise the seat post so easily.
Hi! Sorry, but we didn't weigh the bike - I can tell you that it wasn't bad at all, because I lifted it multiple times to put on our bike rack, no problem. Thanks for watching!
I have a townie. I'm a small woman but I can lift it into my car but it's not the easiest. I think my last trek was it a little later so I wouldn't say this is the lightest bike but it's manageable. And the heaviness maybe I kind of like because it makes it feel super solid especially at high speeds I never feel i/unsteady!
I own both the Townie and a Verve 2 XL and they both seem about the same weight wise. I keep them in my house and have to carry my bikes down the steps when I ride and neither is that hard to lift, and I'm anything but a bar bell boy.
Hello...I currently have a townie and want to get the trek verve . I was searching for reviews and saw your video reviewing your trek. How do they compare? I love my townie so much. Would you say the trek is an upgrade for longer rides?
Funny you ask because I keep thinking, “I really want a Townie!” Lol. I absolutely love my Trek and with the longer rides, variety of surfaces we encounter, as well as elevation changes, the Trek is most definitely the better bike for those rides. I wouldn’t be able to do the kind of rides I do with only 7 gears. I also specifically wanted hydraulic brakes when I was considering the Trek. The Townie is an awesome bike, but in my opinion, more suited for leisure rides. I hope to get one, but the Trek will probably be my primary bike. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
@@TroyandAndrea yes, thank you! The Townie is the most comfortable bike. I love it for riding the beach trails or my local trails. I want to step up my riding bUt just can't do a road bike or mountain bike. Hoping to add the trek soon.
You’re welcome! Maybe with Trek owning Electra now, they can pull off a new bike with the comfort and geometry of the Townie, but with the handling and versatility of the Verve! 🤞😆
It depends on two things, what you're looking for and how much you weigh. The Verve shouldn't have many problems if you weigh 250 pounds or less. Going from my Townie 7D, I found that the Verve 2 is a more intimidating bike to ride. I keep keep the seat a lot higher to get proper leg extension when riding so when my butt is in the saddle I have to reach down with tippy toes to stabilize the bike when stopped. I keep tire pressure on both bikes at 50 psi and the Verve rides a lot harder than the Townie. Both bikes have fairly upright riding positions but in the Verve I am leaning forward a bit so that some of my weight is supported by my hands which leads to them feeling numb during longer rides. On the other hand it is a much more sporting ride it feels more agile and the extra gears allow me to go faster. My Townie 7D is limited by its highest gear, the Trek Verve is limited by the rider. Its also nice to be able to stand on the pedals when you need a little extra torque. If you weigh more than 250 pounds, you face the possibility that things might start breaking on the Verve. I am 6 ft 4 in and 270 pounds and I have had to replace the suspension seat post with a stronger rigid one, I then replaced the seat after it broke at the beginning of what would have been a 20 mile ride. The original rear wheels started snapping spokes until I replaced it with a loaded touring wheel, which seems to have ended the parts breakage. I suspect that most people, even aggressive riders, won't have these kind of problems but if you are heavy this is something you will need to think about. My Townie has had only one problem and that was because I did something stupid.
The Townie Path is a new bike that has a cassette with 9 gears and hydraulic disc brakes. That may be what I would have gotten if it was available when I got my 7D.
Just tried them both - and at least with the stock tires and seats - for some reason the 7D felt more comfortable - it seemed there was an unexpected, slightly different riding angle on the 9 - maybe if you tweaked the seat type and height just a bit you could eliminate that - but I just went with the 7. We'll see if I miss those gears. :) @@darwinskeeper421

I’ve been riding my Townie for Six years. I have a Raspberry color bike which I love. I get a lot of compliments on my pretty bike.
That’s great! Thanks for watching!

Good point! Thanks for watching!
I have never understood that.
I love a girl's bike for the family jewels reason ..lol. Way more forgiving and easier mounting. Especially with back problems
The flat foot technology is a must have for me.
@@bobstranzenbach4700 It certainly makes it more comfortable! Thanks for watching.
Bought one in Spring 2021. Love it. I’ve taken it to 60+ trails. Solid, well-built, durable, good-looking, comfortable. What’s not to like?!
Wow! Just wow! 60 trails?! Great testimony for quality and comfort. Hope you have many more happy miles on it. Thanks so much for sharing and for watching!
Townies - best bikes! You can even swap out tires when riding unpaved trails. Love your trail adventures. Happy riding!
Thank you! That’s good to know! Thanks for watching!
That’s my Bike!!! 😊 Purple was the one I was with in the photo I sent. Though Blue is my color I really loved the flat Purple!
There was a coral one in the shop with the fenders, a bell, and a basket. ❤️ I love the aqua one too.
Indeed, very comfortable bike for all ages, though expensive yet great value for the spend.
Totally agree! Thanks so much for watching!
seems like mens version has too small clearance between pedals and front wheel, so the shoes can touch front wheel sometimes, isn't it?
Yes, sometimes, in some turns, but I never had much issue with that while riding. Thank you for watching!
I got a 9D townie last summer in some kind of green to purple scarab color almost. She's a heavy beast but I love her
Awesome! I don’t think I’ve seen that color, but it sounds beautiful. Thanks for watching!

I have the purple one and I love it!!!
Great! Thanks for watching!
how do the bikes handle hills ?
Not the greatest hill climber gearing. But it's made primarily for just casual cruising. Thanks for watching!
why can they not make this bike with higher gears like a three by front crank for hills
That would be useful!

would this bike be good to bike to and from school? if not, is there any other model you can recommend?
Depending on the distance, I think it could be a great bike for biking to school. And there are matching baskets available!
