if you have time, would you post a schedule? If it's low on the list, I get it. Thanks. 🤓 ❤️ 🌟 I appreciate that you posted your upcoming videos. Thanks. ☺️ ❤️🌟
can't even use the link you posted. it's blocked too. weird.
Fil, man, the way you talk about Beck's ability to go from a teeny tiny little place all the way up to the tip top of a mountain and melt your face off with his bizarre abilities with subtleties of dynamics and techniques, etc, parallels your analysis skills and articulation. I know you're a great musician, (and I love that you contribute demonstrations to some of your analysis'), but certainly not all, or hardly any, musician, or artist for that matter, has your level of acuteness in verbal picture painting about these musicians we all love so much. You, my friend, are super duper awesome? Thanks for all your efforts!
Jeff Beck is like the Star Trek of guitar players...to boldly go where no guitarist has gone before. I have not seen any guitar player as versatile and who has mastered so many genres. He has spent a lifetime dedicated to getting the absolute maximum sound out of a guitar. He is totally fearless. Thank you for featuring him again.
Becks "Wired" had us scratching our heads. Playing through "Blown Speakers" was common reasoning at the time. It was one of those rare "perfect" albums. Everything good, a side/ b side.
Lots of people get tagged for their technique, tone (Billy Gibbons) but Beck blew everyone's minds.
Thanks Fil!
Fil, what makes your music analysis videos so special and informative is because you never overlook anything in anyone’s performance, you have a thorough and detailed approach regarding the performer’s musical abilities. I appreciated the way you analyzed Jeff Beck’s myriad of technique in his guitar playing abilities. From listening to the performance, I was reminded of the Hans Christian Andersen phrase “Where words fail, music speaks.” To borrow a bit of what you’ve said, I think it’s safe to say that Jeff told stories in his musicianship; he certainly didn’t fail. Thanks for keeping me musically absorbed. 🎶
Jeff Beck is a true genius. I really enjoyed watching this and listening to you point out his techniques. Thanks Fil.
We saw Jeff Beck in the early 70's after he'd had his car accident, and he would not face the audience due to the injuries to his face. His playing was more hard rocking then and not as subtle, but still totally unique. He's absolutely on another planet now. Thanks, Fil!
Lucky enough to see him twice in the last decade or so. One of my all time favorites hands down. Along with Gary Moore(whom I never got to see live).
Always loved Jeff's Masterful playing! Brilliant. Great stuff! Enough said! ♥️🎼🎶🇨🇦
Thanks Fil.
You have certainly described Jeff Beck's abilities to the scrutiny it deserves. Jeff's DVD of Live at Ronnie Scots performance is a must have. I believe that Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and Brian May were but a few of noted musicians attended this gig and I think that the rest of the audience were blown out of their minds by his and the bands skills!
I am always speechless watching him perform. I could go on forever and I thank God he still performs.
Great analyses Fil, have always been a Jeff Beck fan, just an amazing player, Jeff in LA USA
FIL, This was at Ronnie Scott;s, Tal Wilkenfeld on Bass, is such a plus Here, she is Awesome, in her own Rite, I have been a Jeff Beck fan ever since the album Truth, where Jeff Gave Rod Stewart his start, if you look out in the Audience, you will see, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, came to see him, Jeff is My Hero, Rock on, I was fortunate to see Jeff and SRV Tour, just months before the SRV Helicopter Crash, Cousin Figel
A masterclass. Thanks for the analysis
I was there! Can't believe it was twelve years ago....
Like the “back to future “ t- shirt Fil, Beck doesn’t get the recognition he deserves class player☮️😎👊
Hypnotic...not a wasted note. Thanks for detailing all the precision that went into it so well!
Jeff is a master. Works with the best to push himself. Thanks.
the one above which there is no other.
the other masters of the electric guitar from the sixties, seventies, eighties and beyond all got, more or less, tired of their instrument. jeff beck has never tired of exploring and finding.
a giant.
a great one, Fil.
Jeff has a command of his guitar like no other! Dynamically blessed with so much attitude and feel! Incredible is really an understatement! Brilliant Fil! Cheers Mario! 😀👌👍
@ M O. G. Watch Jimmy Page's speech during Jeff's induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009: "There's us mere mortals and then there's Jeff." Truer words were never spoken.
Ok man, you definitely passed my personal test. great analysis of my favorite musician, you nailed all the subtleties.diggin your channel!
Thanks!
Jeff Beck is simply a creative genius who uses his instrument to make art. One of my all time favorites! 🎸🎶✌🏻
Beck is one of those players you just can't try to emulate, it's better just to appreciate a master of his craft. By the way, yes that was Robert Plant, later on in the performance you also see Jimmy Page was sitting there with Plant, I'm sure not the only rock royalty there to see a maestro.
and there's Kirk Hammet if I remember well. Seen that performance a hundred times, top notch
and Brian May & Jon Bonjovi.
It would take a great player taking thousands of hours to learn to copy him. Obviously someone considered great would have his own technique and would not want to copy someone else.
I remember reading an interview with the drummer Terry Bozzio, who stated that he never saw Jeff Beck tuning his guitar, but that he somehow wrung the strings to get the right pitch. This video explains that statement. :)
Wow !!!!..."The king teacher" no more words 👏👏👏👏👌👌👌👌🎸🎸🎸🎸💯✔👊🤘
Wow, wish I had been there.. loving those blues
Great analysis of a great musician Fil! Many years ago I read that Jeff's Stratocaster is "very finely tuned" (that's set-up to his liking). If another competent guitarist tried to play it, the instrument would just defeat their ability. The analogy used was like "trying to drive a Formula 1 racing car along a busy high street"! Jeff has exceptional control of the guitar and always seems to use that same Strat' whenever I've seen him play in recent times. Well worth a look are the TV shows "Jeff Beck Talks Music" and "Still On The Run". Both programmes give an insight into Jeff and his music. Thanks again Fil, stay safe.
Thanks for the analysis, Fil. You're a great teacher!👍😎🎸🎶
Thanks!
@@wingsofpegasus yep!🙂
Saw him in concert about twenty years ago. Took my daughter and her friend, and they were amazed. His opening act was Jonny Lang, a guitar whiz himself.
(I had a headache for a week from the second hand "smoke" at that one!)
Great description of his style and talent. I believe he is the best. Wish Truth could be remade today
It was great. Unusual ideas, but all very good!. Thanks Fil. My thoughts are that no one else would play the guitar like that because that's just him! We need to put our own musical personality into our own playing.
I played part of the Jeff Beck video twice to watch the techniques that he uses. I missed them before you pointed them out. Another great analysis!
Great review. In addition to great control of whammy bar, volume, tone etc it seems like he's got total control over the left hand attack on the strings. Micro tones, like he's just massaging or stroking or plucking the strings with his left hand. But then he can be so rock and roll, so rude, so fun. I saw him slide his guitar face down across the stage in Detroit, when he was touring w/ Stevie Ray Vaughn. Quite a noise, but he can be the most articulate, singing kind of guitarist too. Really amazing. Goin' Down or Cause We've Ended as Lovers. The Ronnie Scott concert was really nice.
The technique is so nuanced... _impeccable._ I'm not sure I liked the distorted tone, but his absolute mastery of the instrument
is beyond question. Which of The Yardbirds' three guitar giants is greatest? That's probably an impossible question to answer, as each is amazing in his own right. That group had an embarrassment of riches.
Who is the better artist: Monet, Chagall, or Van Gogh?
@@JTLaser1 God is better than Monet, Chagall or Van Gogh combined.
@@BarbarraBay said Mr Obvious every time. 😉
When you say distorted, do you mean the high speed modulation he applies by flicking the whammy bar and letting it vibrate?
@@donepearce Yeah, I think that's it, but you know what? I went back and listened a second time, and wasn't put off by it, so thanks. And this reminds me of the value of a second listen. So often, people hear some music, and immediately form a negative opinion of it, but give up on it too soon.
Granted, some of it just isn't going to do it for them, even if they listen a thousand times, but I'm talking about something that maybe doesn't resonate at first, but there's something about it that draws one back, and the listener ends up being rewarded. Moral: First impressions aren't always the correct ones when it comes to music, so keep an open mind and open ears.
Of all the guitar greats from his generation Jeff has probably not only retained the greatest technical ability but also advanced his playing beyond what he has done in the past. Jeff also disappeared from the limelight for a time and resurrected his career to achieve renewed commercial success. He’s been able to transcend the stereotypical blues guitarist mold and defined his own unique style and sound. The only other major artist I can think of with a similar vibe is Eric Johnson. I think by virtue of just his mastery of the whammy bar he would be legendary. Virtually every other guitarist’s use of the whammy bar is simplistic and one dimensional in comparison.
There were many parts of that piece where Jeff’s playing evoked, for me, memories of Roy Buchanan, especially (but not only) Jeff’s active use of his guitar’s volume control.
Once again, a great breakdown of a performance. I never realise how much I’m missed until I listen to your analysis and then the song once again. Always appreciated. Many thanks! 😎🎶🎶
I noticed Robert Plant at beginning of video in audience smiling , Beck-Ola,,,, The Jeff Beck Group, still one of my favorite albums from this master Jeff Beck,
Aha!! Fil, yr hugely complementary analysis of "the most dynamic player" n one of the most unique, was a Bulls Eye, Jeff Beck is in a league of his own, it's Jeff Beck ,1st n. Daylight 2,nd 3rd?🤔 doesn't really matter, as Eric Clapton said,"you have to watch very closely" paying attention to appreciate what the "most dynamic player" is doing, that wuz beautiful to hear from you, would love to see you do BB n Beck showing how much BB King R I P appreciates Beck's style n Beck showing how much respect for BB he has.🌴🌺🌹🇫🇯😎👊
Great artist.
enormous Jeff Beck`s artistic richness
Brilliant! 👏👏
I saw him with Rod Stewart last year at the Hollywood Bowl... AWESOME!!!
My favorite since 1971. Just luv him.
From 1965. He's fantastic.
@@mrgordons Rough and Ready is still my favorite album.
I'm 71 years old, gone to hundreds of concerts starting in 1966. I've seen them all. JB was the most inventive, fearless
guitar player I've ever seen. Jeff Beck took chances eg:. You can ALWAYS tell it's Clapton....never with Beck.
Perhaps a video about Tal Wilkenfeld in the future?
Saw Jeff in 2010 and she was equally incredible on bass as he was on guitar. Wicked good🎸Tal
the way jeff looks at her in this video... he's in awe...
czcams.com/video/VC02wGj5gPw/video.html
That would be a good one! I got to see her with full band October 2019 in a small pub in Brighton, and She was fantastic. Shame I can’t say the same for the idiotic audience who didn’t seem to know why Tal was there, and talked / shouted through the whole set. Even told her guitarist to Eff Off at one point when he asked them to pipe down!!!
I saw Jeff Beck with Jan Hammer at Madison Square Garden . I think it physically rearranged my mind . Darkness, Earth in Search of a Sun
Great choice!! Jeff Beck is Not your average guitar player. It’s just a shame that CZcams can’t work out a copyright provision for analysis videos like yours. Solid commentary on this one. Thanks Fil.
I've been a fan since the BBA days. 🙂
I love jeff. ,, and you to fil
Any time you fancy analysing Thunder and Love Walked In, knock yourself out with it. It's a great track and Danny Bowes has a really distinctive voice, in the same vein as a Paul Rogers. Luke Morley's work on guitar is really cool too. At the start of the 1990's Thunder were heading for big things, but then Grunge arrived and stadium rock took a hit. Even so... \m/
With it being Christmas time, I would love to see you analyze Gary Hoey
Master of the Guitar.
Another quality video, Fil!
I ran into a musician you should hear imho. I never liked the kind of metal this norwegian dude plays. Screamo like vocal is not my style, but this guy is worth clicking. Not only he's covering tons of famous songs, he plays most instruments, records in his own studio and his videos are really funny. His name is Leo Moracchioli his label is Frog Leap, just search for it, it's worth it i promise. AND i would like to hear what you think about the stuff Leo's playing
Fucking awesome the master just blows us away, and with his fave girl Tal on bass - .can't' ask for anything greater. And I see Mr Plant is in attendance at 0:45
Thanks Fil, for fun, 1966 scene from movie Blow Up with The Yardbirds- Blow Up with Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page - . Love Jeff, love Robert Plant, love Fil's analysis. I miss going to concerts, and shows!
czcams.com/video/jSJGEn4FDys/video.html
A wealthy friend of mine offered to take me anywhere on the planet for my 50th birthday. Anywhere! I said "We are going to Austin, TX to see Jeff Beck at Austin City". He was annoyed and a drummer, so even though he was 100% in, he wasn't expecting to be BLOWN AWAY by Jeff's performance.
jeff beck is a genius he’s was a guitar virtuoso and started the career of another great (jimmy page)
The Guv’nor, the guitarist’s guitarist - the word ‘genius’ is sometimes misapplied but not when it comes to Jeff Beck playing the guitar!
Well, wrong pictures selection. In 2008, Jeff played with Tal Wilkenfeld on bass and Vinnie Colaiuta on drums. The photos are Rhonda Smith (since 2010) and Narada Michael Walden on drums.
I saw Jeff at Massey Hall in Toronto in 2011. Not a bad seat in the house. Life would never be the same. God, it could only been topped if Jeff had of played Water Down The Drain!
@Bike Cycle it's weird the feeling of being far away and close at the same time at Massey.
Loved him since Wired ❤️
I love how much space he leaves.
R.I.P. :(
There is never any doubt as to who is in command of the stage when a guitar is in the hands of Jeff back.
I always like your analysis. Just hope you do a analysis on favorite artists Fefe Dobson. There's some live performances on my channel you can look at. Take a look around thanks.
Guys like Beck (and Fil, that bastard) who are just born to play guitar, make my jolly guitar collection look like unburned firewood. "Me no wanna play no mo', me wanna watch Fil's super-highway-channel all day...", or as Monty Phyton once put it, "it's just a flesh wound, said the Black Knight, who had just had his arm chopped off.
Beck is one of the few musicians that makes me smile, he comes up with such brilliant riffs. One of my favorites is at about 3:10 on Ice cream cakes: czcams.com/video/N74N-JmjBo8/video.html Muffled sweeping of strings ascending and he then abruptly does the technique in reverse. Just superb!
Fil, please analyze Rick Derringer playing 'Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo.' Thanks, Jack
Fil, one more little ditty, the song after this little brown Jug, Features Eric Clapton, 3 yardbirds in the same Club, Beck, Clapton and Page, that is historic in it;s own There, Cousin Figel
Fil, off topic for the video, but have you seen any of Leroy Troy's performances? He's a phenomenal banjo player and thoroughly hilarious. You might be impressed!
Not yet!
Funny, you replied to this as I was watching your analysis of Junior Brown from 2 years ago! Anyway, Leroy Troy's performances of Grandfather's Clock are quite interesting!
I believe Chet Atkins used wire fence for a string or two in his early days and maybe boiled old strings to get more life out if them.
I recently read that Paul McCartney was influenced for his solo on "Taxman" by Beck's on the studio recording of "Shapes of Things". I don't know about anyone else, but I definitely can hear it.
Here you can compare (let the Beck solo play all of the way through, because it's a ways in before he starts doing the oriental-sounding noodling that's most similar to "Taxman"):
Beck (at one minute 34 seconds) tinyurl.com/y6yb3rpf
McCartney (at one minute ten seconds) tinyurl.com/y4ckgcyn
That Jeff guy is pretty good for a British fella. :-)
😂
You should analyze Colour My World by Chicago and or Take It Easy by The Eagles; any song by The Eagles, really (Joe Walsh😁). A few others would be Mellow Down Easy, live, by ZZ TOP(Billy Gibbons is the most underrated guitar player ever, and Dusty Hill is the most brilliant bass player and can make it sound like anything. One last suggestion is any Bread song... If, Aubry, they're all great. Oh! And Taxi by Harry Chapin.
Been lissenin a Beck with Rod... and Faces a Rod and with Steve M.... speaking of great guitarists, and then Rod solo with a lot of other great guitarists :-). Both Rons, OMG
The Blues as a style is not my cup of tea (too formulaic) but this is hands down the best blues track ever recorded because of Jeff's playing. The only blues track I listen to over and over and over and over......
As much as I appreciate his pickless technique, sometimes I wish he'd incorporate some of his older techniques, just to mix it up a bit. I'm thinking of the very quick pulloffs to open strings he used to do with the Yardbirds and first Jeff Beck Group, and the finesse of some of his picking with the second Jeff Beck group. I guess he just got tired of those things. One post "Where Were You" example of his playing melodies by bending harmonics that I like is his work on Roger Waters' "Amused to Death" album. His 1992 soundtrack album "Frankie's House" is a lesser known treasure of Jeff Beck guitar work, as is his playing on Jon Bon Jovi's Blaze of Glory, and the Paul Rogers album Muddy Water Blues.
😻😻😻😻😻
Saw him @ RONNIE LANE BENEFIT
He BLEW EVERYONE ELSE AWAY
He had a whammy that connect to his BELT 🤯
I think that's a string bending device called a "Hipshot".
I dont see how CZcams is helping itself with all this copyright. Its getting ridiculous.
I see what you mean about all the subtle effects. The melody itself is quite spare.
Did you get your hair cut?
No but this video was recorded 19 months ago but was blocked on copyrights so I've uploaded it again!
@@wingsofpegasus Oh ok. Thank you for the videos Fil. You are awesome.
I saw Jeff play in 1980, and it was like my ears and mind were having an orgasm the entire show.
Fil doesn't miss a "trick".
Can you analyze Speedy Haworth?
RIP JEFF BECK - 1/10/2023 - 78 - BACTERIAL MENINGITIS
The Ballad of Bill Hubbard
Yeah yardbirds to wired and blow by blow is awesome
Ian Moore might be a good person to analyze. He was an amazing guitarist in the 90's
My analysis. Based on my 2nd hand $150 acoustic guitar tuned in E flat, Jeff is playing in G flat or F sharp minor or whatever it is, i.e., maybe A major. 😂😆🤦♂️
Let's rock fil
I have a feeling that if JB didn’t have a whammy bar, he would find another way to play what he wants. I used to go to the Fillmore East all the time. Unfortunately I never saw a band with JB.
What ethnicity of guitarist are you again? I cant remember.
Some fiery blues to check out. Two videos, parts 1 & 2, of Tom Principato and Danny Gatton from 1988. czcams.com/video/d0vDkv3g7JM/video.html and czcams.com/video/gpa3CyPuaxA/video.html. Wear a seatbelt.
Plus, if you have not heard of Dave Hole, you will be amazed at his playing and intensity: czcams.com/video/SThSL3OJ1Eo/video.html
Okay after ur analysis im sorry bout my comment :) Jeffffff

Copywrite blocked. Wow. I would sue my publisher and label and move to another if they ever blocked you or Rick B. Damn
JEFF BECK

Vinnie on drums exhibits the same level of skill Jeff does on guitar. They are both as good as anyone on the planet. Tal is no slouch either.
Jason Rebello is pretty good as well -- and by "pretty good" I mean "fantasiic".

Too bad youtube seems to be the only game in town.
