Bounty Doubles For Central Texas Feral Hogs

Hunters get your guns -- Hays and Caldwell counties are more than doubling the bounty on feral hogs. There are more than 2.6 million feral hogs in Texas, and hog hunter Bubba Ortiz says the issue is getting out of control.Last year, Ortiz removed 469 hogs from within the city of San Antonio. He says, They're in neighborhoods now, Georgetown has a problem, Round Rock has a problem, Austin's outer areas have a problem, San Antonio has an inner city problem now and if nothing is done about it, it's going to grow and get worse.Ortiz says they reproduce at a rapid rate and they have no real predator since they're not native to this area. They destroy everything, they destroy plants, they'll destroy animals, they'll destroy crops. They'll destroy water, says Ortiz. This year, the Caldwell County Feral Hog task force is stepping up efforts to cut down the feral hog population.Nick Dornak, the Plum Creek Watershed Coordinator, says, You can start holding on to those pig tails now and you can start to collect up to $5 per tail this year or we take receipts from a certified holding facility, those are the hogs that are captured live and sold for slaughter.Along with a bounty, this year, the task force is also going to use wireless traps and aerial control. Aerial control actually involves trained marksmen shooting feral hogs from helicopters. While Ortiz is a supporter of the hog tail bounty program, he would rather see them put to good use.He says, There's nothing wrong with it as long as its USDA inspected and you sell it to the public and make hamburgers and bratwurst and breakfast sausage and tacos -- like I said, its free range organic pork. The Hog Bounty program begins September 1.For more information on programs, including aerial control from Texas Wildlife Services scheduled for early 2014, or to sign up for the use of a wireless trap on your property, contact the Task Force at ccfhtf@gmail.com.By Lydia Pantazes

They reproduce so rapidly that even if you increased the bounty to $100 a hog, it would not make a difference. Once an invasive species becomes established, it is here for good. Some invasive species likes mice and rats have been eliminated from small islands, but trying to eliminate an invasive species from a large country is impossible. They can already be hunted with no bag limit, and the population is still increasing. Any hogs captured will be replaced by others. So, it's really just window dressing at this point. Best thing to do, is prevent new ones from being established.

      Exactly. casiewhey.
With all due respect. With the proof of statement.
The Texas Provincial/Stare Government is more concerned about the welfare of wild pig hunters than that of nature conservation or the farmers.
      Because.
I have written to. Confirmed by courier delivery. And emailed. Most senior members of the mentioned entity. Also to the people directly concerned with this pandemic. In Canada. And the USA.
Informing. That there is known to me. A dirt cheap. Low-labour input methodology. To lower numbers of this pest.
No trapping. No fire arm or air gun shooting. Raptor friendly. No collaring. No stupid birth control measures. No expensive and/or sophisticated feeding hatches. I don’t give viruses even a milli second’s thought. (Because only a REAL EFFECTIVE virus might do real harm. And what about the after effects. Such as wiping out commercial pig farmers as well?)
Processes are cost-effective. As stated. Hugely so in relation to magnitude. Which will stretch any given budget by a considerable length.
And for this I offered consultancy.
I must. In hindsight mention that there were replies from Saskatchewan and Alberta.
But from the US. Not a murmer. And. Of all the propaganda fanfare about the hog this. And hog that. That the unhindered population growth can be a figure of three. During and with severe number curtailing. Which is just not practically possible in view of the present population/numbers. The lowest available forecast. Optimistically low. Is 0,32. In actual fact confirming that the 3,6M estimated in only Texas. WILL become. At the very least 7,2M during/in 2026. Which perfectly ties in with your statement that there were only two sows in this very parcel of twenty three pigs. Grade three arithmetic.
So. The proof of this pudding. Must I regretfully state. There is no feral hog problem in Texas. And if so then. Do Provincial/State leaders and people should be concerned. All on permanent holiday. In a peaceful gondola. In Venice. They don’t give a first. Nineteenth. Or forty second ……… about the issue.
Many thanks for what you. And I imagine many other are doing to attempt to sort out the problem. Governmentless.
      God bless!

$5??? That won't cover the cost of going out after em...that paltry sum sure as hell isn't gonna increase participation. They gotta make it "attractive" enough to drive up interest...and five dollars per is ridiculous (especially, when not long ago the state I live in had a bounty of $60 per coyote tail).
