      The difference between a conservative law enforcement is that they will fire the gun, now, if you want protection what would you want to protect you a cop who will fire a gun without hesitation if situation demands it, or a cop who will want to talk while 5 or 6 gang members is shooting at him

    Whether you think what he is saying is conservative or liberal is fine but I think the greater point here is to be an individual and make your up your own mind on issues. I mostly have liberal views but am conservative on some matters. You aren't supposed to be someone who follows blindly with one or the other. Life isn't black or white. It's grey. When making decisions make the right decision by investigation and conscience. You can decide later whether you are more conservative or liberal.

      Liberalism and conservatism are actually very similar ideologies. Both believe in the market, both support some level of "small government", both believe in taxation, both believe in representative democracy, both believe in private property rights, and both will say they support freedom of speech. There are many positions which can't be considered liberal or conservative, for example the death penalty for homophobic people, or alcohol prohibition.

    • @TubeEamo
      @TubeEamo Před 5 lety +3

      Precisely. Approach every new idea and topic with as little prejudgement as possible.
      Most of us tend to lean one way or another but equally we seldom see every issue as black and white.
      If you're going in with the mindset, "I have to see this a certain way" you're letting someone else form your opinions.

    • @venusianblivet9518
      @venusianblivet9518 Před 5 lety +9

      A Time For Wolves You're letting someone else from your opinions if you only think there are two options (liberal or conservative) for each issue. Most people have some sort of framework or values which they apply to each issue, for example conservatives tend to value tradition, liberals tend to value personal freedom, libertarians tend to view government intervention as inherently bad, communists tend to view issues in terms of class struggle etc. These values and assumptions lead to ideologies forming.

    • @jessejive117
      @jessejive117 Před 5 lety +1

      Correct. I do think that tends to people leaning to almost all on one side. I don’t understand why so many people who are pro-choice or anti-death penalty and for heavy gun regulation because none of those are related that seems like groupthink. But I think your worldview makes you go left or right if you usually worship God you go to the right for freedom and if you worship the government you go to the left.

Everyone once in a while it’s good to have someone in a position of power come in with new ideas and shake things up, but for the most part, I prefer leaders who stick to the job, govern firmly but fairly, and not get embroiled in scandals and schemes that seem to happen to so many politicians now.
    Up here in Toronto we had Rob Ford as mayor for a number of years. Say whatever you will about his politics, the man was a walking circus and so much time and resources of his office was used to put out all the little fires he would start. Now we have John Tory as mayor - and man who even he agreed was boring and bland, and the city is back on track as an economic and cultural powerhouse with no distractions.

      @@Nathan-hs2ut Yes, all of these are right-wing characteristics. And right-wingers here are made up mostly of conservatives, and to a lesser degree of libertarians.
      Definitions have changed over time. Today in America, what we generally mean by "liberal" is just someone on the left, i.e. someone who favors greater wealth redistribution through public programs, greater government regulation of the economy, greater tolerance towards racial/religious/sexual/etc minorities, greater concern for the environment, and an overall less hierarchical, patriarchal and a more egalitarian society.
      It seems that in Europe you still call the opposite of that "liberal". In the US, the closest thing to a classical liberal (i.e. someone who favors both free markets and social freedom) is a libertarian.
      I appreciate your sentiments for the channel ;)

    • @nonmagicmike723
      @nonmagicmike723 Před 5 lety +14

      Conservatives are about continuity, liberals about humanity. And here I'm using "liberal" in the modern sense, as in, left-wing.
      Now the problem is that continuity has some humanity costs, and vice-versa. "No such a thing as a free meal" and all that. And it's not always easy to strike the right balance. Which is why liberals will always push for a more "humane" system (caring, inclusive, fair, etc.) than the one that already exists, and conservatives will pull back towards a more continuity- and survival-oriented one.
      Liberals want to spread the wealth around and give people equal access to things because it's the kind thing to do. But conservatives understand that if you spread too much wealth, then you're gonna end up killing the very incentives that make people get out of bed, hustle through years of engineering or learning surgery, or bust their behinds off building a business, to create the wealth you want to redistribute to begin with. because why bother work and sweat for something if you can get it by just having the government redistribute it to you for "free"? It breaks the very engine that produces the wealth and everyone loses in the end. See also: Laffer curve.
      Liberals want to lessen immigration restrictions because it's the kind thing to do towards the poor people of the world who want to come to America. But if there are no restrictions, then we'll end up overwhelmed with too many to handle in too short a period, and everyone will lose in the end.
      Liberals want workers to have more protections because it's the kind thing to do. But too much unionization and regulation ends up protecting and perpetuating mediocrity, decreasing quality, increasing labor cost, slowing down productivity, making the business less competitive, and hurting the very thing that provide jobs for those workers and wealth to the treasury to begin with. Why do you think European unemployment is almost always in the double digits? France has a much bigger welfare state, yet has a higher poverty rate than we do.
      Pampering the kids is nice. But pamper them too much and they'll end up too soft and crippled to take care of themselves or anyone else. And everyone loses in the end.
      Same for too much wealth redistribution from healthy to sick. While the sickest shouldn't be allowed to die, they also shouldn't have the cost of maintaining their health so lowered as to be able to have as many if not more children than the healthier. Because in the long run, it just spreads the least adaptable traits in the population, making its health costlier and costlier to maintain with time. Same for making it easier for the most reckless and least productive to procreate.
      Liberals want women to do the same jobs and tasks as men, and in equal representation, and to be just as societally powerful as men are, because it's the nice thing to do. But conservatives see that when it comes to the heterosexual mating dynamic, men look down, and women look up. Which means that the higher your raise women, the smaller the pool of attractive mates there will be for them. And you end up with a larger number of disgruntled and unhappy lower-status men and higher-status women. Likewise, while it's nice and all for the genders to be more similar, it should not be forgotten that the sexual spark comes from gender differenciation, not similarity. It comes from the masculine contrasting with the feminine. And that physical electricity from gender roles and power imbalance make for more pleasurable and tolerable, and thus durable relationships with the opposite sex. None of this necessitates government coercion, by the way. Just get the artificial barriers and leg-ups out of the way.
      And while authority does entail some repression and use of force, it is necessary for the maintainance of order and to prevent anarchy, and thus for the continuity of any institution, and of civilization as a whole. Same for pacifism vs. necessity of strong defense.

      And mobilising people to construct something like the pyramids for example has an incredible spin-off effect in terms of the skills it teaches people are cooperation they learn, the infrastructure that gets put in place, the trade that grows around the area in the time it’s being built et cetera et cetera.

    My Grandfather is a perfect example of the old man still collecting social security, despite being absurdly wealthy.
    He worked for UPS for 33 years. During that time part of his pension included stock in the company. Over the next 3 decades it just sat collecting dust until 1999 when UPS gave its IPO on the stock market. So all that stock which was minimal in value, suddenly skyrocketed in value and he then dumped it all off for a cool $750,000 dollars which he then diversified into other blue chip stocks.
    Now, he collects interest from his investments and just travels the US with my grandmother in an absurdly massive RV.
    All that being said, he still cashes in that SSI check every month, sitting up high in the driver seat of his Winnebago, judging everyone else he deems to be "lazy" because they didn't find the same opportunity in life that he was given.
    Don't get me wrong, I have huge respect for my papa. He got up each morning. He went to work and drove triple trailers up and down I-5 FOR 33 YEARS. No easy feat. Yes, he earned his social security. But the life he lives now is not exactly financially "insecure".

    Okay, this is one of those videos where I'll probably try to break everything down, so here goes:
    0:00 How does wanting police around make you conservative? Liberals don't want the police abolished, they want them regulated and responsible. Cops need leeway to do their job, what they don't need is carte blanche on excessive force.
    1:08 Spending, especially on the military, spikes when the Republicans are in charge. That's why the deficit goes up when the GOP's in charge and down when the Democrats are in charge. Even the Pentagon has told the GOP that they're wasting money on them.
    2:59 Considering how much teachers have to spend out of their own pockets, can you imagine how much harm it would do if the unions WEREN'T there?
    5:05 Can't be that conservative a view: Obama gave the order to kill bin Laden and Republicans whined about it.
    6:12 I'm not normally a "b-b-BUT BOTH SIDES" guy, but doesn't this sound exactly like Alex Jones and other conservative pundits?
    6:53 "Getting shit for free"? It's not like the government put them on their parents' cell phone plan. And the reason they're still living at home is because the economy makes it more and more difficult to move out. Lower the wage gap and you'll find millennials moving out more.
    7:19 Blaming immigrants for your problems has been a conservative talking point for centuries.

  • @psychoticentertainment7526

    As I get older, only 24 but still compared to when I was 15 I'm a lot different but I find myself more and more in the center between liberal and conservative and it's ironic to me the way things have changed looking at politics throughout history. I say this as if I'm being honest old school liberals, not necessarily democrats, are overall considered center now whereas if you get called straight up republican or democrat the general image for either tends to be to an extent a political extremist. Now while a big part of that is due in part to the excessive proliferation of what these crazies are saying is the big reason for that. However that doesn't change the fact that at this point we're not really a bipartisan country, and yes I know we technically haven't been for a long time due groups like the green party, in truth we have four, technically five, main groups. There are the republicans and the democrats who again overall when each term is used it tends to often be about the crazy fringe groups. Then you have the liberals and the conservatives who are either side of the political spectrum but have the ability to use reason. For example a very liberal trans woman saying you shouldn't trans kids or a conservative pastor actually following the bible and loving his "enemy" by making sure he church is safe place for anyone irrelevant of their sexuality, gender, race whatever the bias may be. I find it incredibly ironic that I've often heard Bill Maher called hateful when in truth he's just a reasonable, albeit sarcastic, person who honestly isn't afraid to voice his opinion based on what I've seen

Or getting everything at insane overinflated prices, and having no wage jobs to pay for it, with no benefits. He lives in an LA media bubble that he thinks by staying at 5 star hotels across the US while “touring” he sees “regular millennial problems”. The real problem is that he sees rich entitled millennials in LA and extrapolates that to the rest of the country. The boomer generation has left a disastrous situation.
