This is so helpful I’ve been keeping every single baby spiderplant my main one has birthed, and I’m building an empire
I laughed so hard at your comment. Yes it's exactly like an empire!!! I can't bear to give any away amd when I do everyone already has a spider plant lollll😂😂
I removed most my leafs off my spider plant today and changed the soil because it was wayy too moist at all times and my plant was dying. We'll see how it recovers. The roots were mostly fine.
Update: It's thriving! All the stems I cut started producing many new small plants! There's many of them and they keep growing!
I am a new subscriber & new to the plant community. I've always loved plants but couldn't keep them healthy. Slowly I am learning so thank you so much for all your tips.
Thanks Claire for such great videos ❤
Informative and delightful presentation! Thanks so much from your new subscriber in Canada!
I bought this spider plant in 2020 still amazing green and it produces many new plant for me it makes so much green
Great video! I recently bought an established spider plant from the local garden market - it had babies and everything. I repotted it into a larger hanging pot and placed it on the balcony, but it started looking rather haggard after a week. Its leaf tips were turning brown, and the babies' root tips were also turning brown! I've since repotted it into a smaller pot and have placed it indoors, suspecting that exposure to wind was beating my poor plant up. Was looking everywhere for confirmation that spider plants don't like draughts, and finally found it here - thank you!
Thank you! Yes they can be really sensitive to this. I'm not sure where abouts you live, but too much direct sun and lack of humidity can also be a major cause of browning. Hope it's doing better now and bounces back soon! 💚
@@TheJungleHaven I'm in Sydney which has mild winters, and summers that range from extreme humidity to extreme dryness. My balcony gets a LOT of wind, so I think if I was to place it outdoors, it would need a more sheltered environment. Anyway, fingers crossed that it likes its new spot indoors, and thanks for responding to my comment! :)
I’m a new subscriber to your channel. Just wanted you to know your info is great and you’re really easy to listen to! I like that you get right to the point!!! So many drag on like they just want to fill in words! Keep up the good work! Looking forward to watching some of your older videos I missed 😍
That's really kind of you to say, thank you so much 💚
I love how spider plants look and I plan on investing in one. Meaning propagating more spider plants to sell so thanks to the creator of the video!
Thank you! Love my spider plants!
I want to thank you for all your information. I lived in another state. It was New Jersey and I grew all types of plants moved to Florida. I can’t add. I can’t keep a plan but I’m taking your tips. Appreciate you very much. Thanks for sharing.
I’m in Arizona in the USA. My spider plant took a bit to take root. But it finally did and is going absolutely bananas! Just about a year old and I have two stalks with more babies than I have pots for!! I keep near a sunny window during the day. I’m a polar bear at night though.
Needed this video. Fantastic information.
Love yr accent and yr little tips esp about humidity
Thank you so much very informative👍
Love this!! My friend brought me a little propagation from her spider plant a couple weeks ago and this is so helpful! As per usual 🤗
Oooh yay plant friends are the best! I hope your little spider plant is doing well so far 🙃
@@TheJungleHaven it’s actually perked up quite a bit since I got it! I must be doing something right 😜
Thank you so much for helpful helpful tips 🤗🦋🦋🦋🌹🦋🦋🦋🌹🦋🦋🦋🌹
Thank you this was helpful.
Wink wink right back at ya. Great informational video.
Great infor.
Love your videos
Thank you for information
Little information bomb, brilliant.
Thank you so much Claire, I really really enjoyed watching you take us through the care of spider plants. I have one spider plant with dozens of babies and what is your favourite way of propagating them please. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks ❤
nice video. can the long tubers (for mother plants only) be used for propagation?
Hello! Congratulations, your videos are amazing! ☺️ Question: if I buy a "tropical plant" specific soil, should I still add perlite? What about peat moss? 🤔
And genius ideas.
I have to get new Tropical soil for my Spider Plant, as well as other types of pots. My big Spider Plant needs to be transplanted due to my having to cut off bent leaves. I’ve had it hanging in the front window, but I think I’d like to try a glass cabinet like you have just to see how good my plants can grow.
Ohh thank you for this. I was walking in the woods and found a bunch of spider plants at the base of a tree. So I went back and brought them home.
Oh wow you luckily thing! I wish I could pop out for a walk and find them (mind you, that might be slightly dangerous - my house would be FILLED with them) 😂💚
@@TheJungleHaven yeah my husband was like ohh my. I have been letting them soak in water. I am going to pot them here in a couple days. It was amazing I ended up finding over 10 babies. They just kept separating.
Hiya! I was wondering how you keep your spider plant clean.. I've heard they really don't like wet leaves, as it gives them crown rot. Any tips?
Thank you!
I know you do spider plants.Do you have anything on how to do poppy plants,
Im just starting to get into plants as I get older and I have my Spider plant out side hanging under my front porch , day time temps have been 80s & 90s & night time lows in the 60s also pretty high humidity , is this too much for it , should it be inside I keep my house around 70 - 75 degrees . Also theres looks like five plants in the one pot should I split them up into like two smaller pots ? Also just found your channel and subscribed .
Can cactus soil be used for these too?
Hello I have a fully mature spider plant with approx 10 legs full of plantlettes. Can I trim these all the way back to the mature plant? I am not planning on making any additional plants from the plantlettes. The babies are getting massive and some of the bases are turning a brownish/black.
Thanks for a great channel Claire, should I snip the brown bits on the end of my spider plant leaves?
Thank you! Yes, I'll personally always cut off any browning tips 💚
I need to know what the best plants are for all the rooms in my house. What are the best plants for the Bedroom, Bathroom & Kitchen. My Mother used to do this sort of thing and I think it’s a rather “Healthy” thing to do, Please Advisee me on this. Thank You.
would it be oki yp hang the planit like in a kitchen invorpment?
What a good soil mix ??
Im trying to save my spider plant! When I first got her she was full and had a troth of babies. Now all the babies have dies and the leaves are beginning to turn brown and die off. I used to water her once a week but I think that may be too much idk..I just want to have a healthy plant. I will try and follow the tips in this video. Thank yoiu
Hello, tell me please what is that plant that's up on the wall behind you? Thank You!
I have a question - I recently adopted a spider plant from a friend, just slightly bigger to yours. She's kept it in water, and suggested I do the same. But I've noticed the leaves are pale and droopy and there's brown tips. Looking online it seems too much water can cause this. Would you recommend I put them in soil? And if so which soil is good?
How do you fertilize the pot?
If my spider plant has little brown bumps (bugs?) on stems and some leaves making the plant sticky... what can I spray on it? Diluted vinegar? Soapy water?
Should I just wait and buy a Snake and Spider plant around April/May? I'm In the UK (iv got good window ledge space). Thanks in advance.
What's the best fertiliser for spider plants?
Do you plant one spider plant baby per pot? I have some babies growing off of my large one.
One of my spider plants is getting heavy and droopy on one side. It’s pretty healthy but can I prop it up somehow?
You have a very interesting hair style
Wonderful video. Do you have any advice for a mature spider plant that is leaning over to one side?
Rotate your spider plant every time you water. Repot deeper.
Hey do they die after a while. Like they just don’t grow anymore .?
Hi thanks for your video ! I am now subscribed to your channel ! I am from Alberta Canada I have had a very large veriegated spider plant. We moved 2 years ago from a house to a condo. I didn’t have room for the big mama so 😢 I had to give her away to a family member. I did however keep a baby. So far she has not produced any babies. Is there a certain time frame , or age that they start to produce babies?
My big plant i bought a couple months ago only has a couple shoots/stems for babies to grow on. Why are there only a couple of those shoots/stems growing amongst the many leaves?
I'm glad to get those tips. Just bought a spider plant on sale from big box store; it had brown spots on some of the leaves not just the tips; What can i do about it?
Could be down to lack of humidity or a watering imbalance... I'd check the roots first of all to make sure they look healthy 💚
Hey just found you. Was wondering if you could talk about spider plant flowers? If you’ve covered it in a different video my apologies and I hope I find it lol.
I inherited an old Spider Plant and I don’t know its history. The leaves are very floppy, with the area where the leaves and roots meet being the pivot point. I think the leaves could easily break off as one unit. What do you suggest I do?
For a balanced fertilizer would you recommend 1/4 strength or 1/2 strength when fertilizing for the first time? Thanks😊
I'd say half strength would be absolutely fine. It's just a precaution, but always better safe than sorry ☺️
I was given a yellowish-looking spider plant. After about a week it started turning black on me. I repotted it and realized it was 3 large plants in one pot so now I have 3 spider plants. Two have babies attempting to grow. What caused the blackening? This is my first time with a spider plant.
My spider plant has one stem of babies but they aren't getting any bigger. What can I do to help them mature so I can snip them off?
Omg.. I moved a couple of months ago and where I lived was on the 8th floor. I had an enclosed ledge outside my windows and my spider plants thrive out there year round. Even the baby clippings all grew like crazy. Well since I moved into my new place I can’t keep them outside although I do sit them out on my porch daily. But out of 7 beautiful plants , I’m down to only two. All the others died. Any reason why?
My friend gave me one of her babies so thank you. I know nothing about plants.
How long do they take to grow babies please?
Can you put more than one baby spider in one pot
I’m good with most plants but for some reason can’t keep a spider plant alive, hopefully this video helps thanks for uploading
I've heard a few people say this about spider plants. I really hope this helps - it's what I've done for all of mine and (touch wood) they're all doing well 💚
It hapens the same to me!! It helps to know that I am nota the only one that can't keep a spider plant!!🕷️🌱
I bought one dragon plant from asda on a whim a few weeks back. Now my house looks like the bloody Amazon. The spider plant in the bathroom is the best though. Just pure green..not variegated. Its gone mad in a few weeks 😂
We recently was gifted a healthy spider plant and ive been trying so hard to keep it just as healthy, but its looking more wilty and ive had to remove cream pebble looking substance that started growing on the dirt near the baseof the plant. I water it once a week, about a cup of water. Maybe thats too much water?
Question - when the plant has its babies, do you leave the long stem on the mother plant, or do you chop it off for a fresh one to grow?
It's really up to you, but often once you've harvested the babies it will naturally die back 💚
My spider plant that I have had for six years is dying 😭. I recently moved and there is only a small window in my bedroom with no window sill. I have her on the refrigerator but initially when I was moving in I had her. On the floor need the heater which I think started to have her take a turn for the worst along with no sunlight. I want to try to get her a grow light can you tell me which one would work best? Red and blue or full spectrum? Do you think the grow light can save her. 💔
When you say let the top soil dry out, do you mean the top inch or so?
Depending on the size of the pot, yes. Mine's now potted up in a 12cm pot and I usually let the top inch completely dry out (obviously if it's a much smaller/bigger pot then that will vary slightly) 💚
I split my spider in the spring and put it on my deck. It thrived
Since bringing it inside, the leaves are browning in the white center. ??
Can you just leave the pups on? Mine have like 60 or so. I don’t know if that’s good or not lol
I have 4curlys and 4 reg spiderplants babies ((they're taking over)
As soon as I put mine inside they turn yellow. When I put it back outside they turn green.
Do they like bulb light xx
Yes they can absolutely be grown under grow lights 💚
Great video. When I got my curly spider plant it had a few spider babies which I cut to create more plants and it’s never given me any more babies. How do I get it to create more baby spiders?
Pushing out babies requires quite a lot of energy from your plant, and they can go for months on end without doing it (even if the plant is healthy and mature). Making sure it's got all the right nutrients, particularly over growing season, and the warmth/light/humidity are all good is the best way to help encourage it to produce more little babies 💚
I had a mature spider plant that I divided into many small plants. Many of the divided plants are producing babies.
Hi Claire I have had a spider plant cutting in water since last November. It really needs to find a pot. I am concerned at this point that if I pot it up it will die. Do you think it's OK to transfer it to a pot with dirt or leave it alone?
You could maybe do a transfer to semi-hydro to start it off as it adjusts (such as leca, pon or even sphagnum moss)? That's what I tend to do for plants that have been in water for a reeeeeally long time that I want to pot. On the other hand, if it seems happy and it's got a good root system, you could just leave it in it's water and invest in a hydroponic fertiliser... I propagated some pothos cuttings in water a few years ago that are all now hapily growing 100% hydroponic cause I never potted them up 😂💚
@@TheJungleHaven thanks so much I think I may leave it fully hydro and go to my local garden center for some hydro fertilizer
Does anyone know why spider plant leaves would get really soft and limp and Not springy?
Why dose my plante bend and almost breaks thx
Thank you for the video. My plant attracted so many ants and someone told me to put the plant in the garden for a day so the ants run away as they don’t like heat and sunlight. But unfortunately my spider plant after being left in the garden for one day is now drooping. I’m not sure what to do. Could you please help me?
my spider was doing great in bathroom when summer started i brought it put into the porch indirect sun, is dying now, any suggestions?
Hi Claire - thanks for these individual plant tips! I really appreciate them and find them so helpful! Spider plants are one plant that i CANNOT keep alive. Give me a hard plant, fine...an "easy" one.. no chance 🤦♀️🤷♀️🪴 - i will deffinitely be taking notes!
Hey Talya, no worries at all! I honestly feel like people really overthink these plants - they are super easy once you almost stop caring for them so much 😂 Super low-maintenance; just decent filtered light, lots of humidity and warmth, and soil-monitored watering 💚
@@TheJungleHaven thank you! I'm going to try less watering & some better lighting. Also - just a side note, I think it's so cool & nice that you take the time to interact with your community in the comments. Keep doing you! 🌵🪴 see you next video!

Hi Claire. My varigated spider plants bloomed last autumn. Little white flowers a bit like elderflowers. You didn't touch on that, have yours ever bloomed?
Also a future video idea, you're always talking about cuttings you took from your mum's plants. Could you share her collection please if that's not intrusive? Did your love of plants come from her?
I realise I totally forgot to mention blooming in these plants (I must have been on autopilot)! My bigger spider plants have bloomed, but for one this size and still relatively young it's very rare - it usually comes with maturity.
That's a great video idea - her collection isn't huge (her outdoor plant collection is pretty insane though)... Perhaps I'll ask her to get involved with a video at some point 💚
Hi Claire Where did you buy cabinet and grow tent?
Hiya - I actually just found it on Ebay (and it was dead cheap) 💚
@@TheJungleHaven Thanks Claire I was hoping to order. Yes you got a great deal :D I'm a Brit myself but living in the US
@@Englandmw Have a look at the glass Ikea cabinets - a lot of people have turned them into beautiful grow cabinets! The model called "milsbo" is my personal favourite!

Great video. Very ussefull actyally but... I don´t know why, but every time I propagate any spider plant by tacking of the litle plants they push out, I put it in water and it pushes out ruttes perfectly, but every time I place it in to soil when the roots are developed it starts drying out and after a few days it passes out😱😭😓. Any tips???????
It was great to see you. Bye.
😜🤪😝😍😘
Hiya! When you first pot cuttings up it's important to keep them hydrated as their roots adjust and not allow the soil to dry out. I also always use the water I propagated them in to water them once they're potted up so they have a little bit of their old environment 🙃
@@TheJungleHaven Thanks soooo much!!! Hi from Spain ❤️❤️😘
My plant 🪴 is dying after I put in a pot. I will check the water drainage. Thanks! (PS: You talk a bit fast for me, that ESL). :)
It's summer, My spider plant leaves turned brown and weak, then started to drop off. so i watered it more and put in balcony where afternoon sun will come but the condition didn't improve and all the leaves are lost now and I don't know if the root is good or not anymore. Is there any way I can save it? Someone please reply
Definitely check the roots (your plant may still be saveable even with no leaves), but it could also be down to heat/lack of humidity or too much direct sunlight. If you suspect root rot, I made a video on how to use Hydrogen Peroxide to fix this 💚
@@TheJungleHaven It died. I think it's because of the heat. haha. got a new one tho! thanks for replying!
Spider plants are not easy to keep at all. Mine was fine when I first got it, but it's been a fight to keep it healthy since. Hardly any leaves left and all of them brown/yellow. Finally given up and slung it in the bin this morning. Not one to do again.
I am facing the same problem

One of your videos said we could eat spider plants and then another said we couldn't?
a lot of good info
May I suggest speaking a bit slower :)
Good info but……you talk too fast
Slow playback speed , see if that helps.
Wonderful video.. just a wee question. I heard that spider plants are fussy with the type of water and with the UK tap water being rather hash would you recommend using rain water? 🪴 ❤️
I read online that rain water is best. But u can use distilled water. Tap water may contain chlorine or fluoride which spider plants don’t like.
I dm you on Instagram
