100% MTB VIrgin here... just getting into it due to Midlife Crisis. Just purchased the 2023 Stumpy EVO Expert. Not going to change a single thing other than going tubeless cause i have NO IDEA what i'm doing anyways. Can't believe i spent that much money on a bike. Hope i don't kill myself on it.
Hey again. If you remember me I have the same bike except in the matte carbon. I had some fun with a few mods since I’ve had it but I am with you about not overwhelmingly wanting to upgrade. Here is what I’ve done so far: Ride wrap Roval carbon bars Head tube swat (I hate the tool being exposed on the cage)I didn’t realize this mod will add a small step when adjusting head tube angle. I also just bought Roval control carbon wheels since most of the time I’ll be pedaling when not hitting a park. I decided to go with ground control front and back for more speed and just in case, I bought an eliminator t9 for the front if things get a little hairy. I have to say while holding in hand the stock wheels with tires vs a tubeless carbon control, the weight difference was astounding. I couldn’t believe it. Can’t wait until this cold goes away so I can give the new set up a proper ride. Next will be the 54t and I might be talked into going axs. Some have already told me if I did all of that, I may as well have bought the pro. I hated the color is my best reason lol, but honestly, I am now satisfied. I had carbon wheels on the last two bikes at this price point and lower and simply felt like I was missing out again lol. The aluminum wheels will be used on park/chunky days. Thanks for the video!
Hey Kenny, thanks for checking back in. It sounds like you’re getting a lot out of your bike. It’s definitely fun to tweak/personalize your ride. I haven’t had any issues with the SWAT tool yet - what caused your issues? And how did the Ride Wrap install go? Interesting thoughts on the carbon rims. I’ll be keeping my eyes open for a sale on some carbon rims as I’m sure sooner or later I will need to scratch that itch! I see that Speciailized has gone GX AXS on the 2023 Evo Expert. And there are some very solid sales on AXS upgrade kits at the moment. Must resist! Looking forward to some warmer weather!
@@dizidoesdownhill I haven’t had any issues with swat. Purely cosmetic and I love the idea of the swat tool in the head tube. That is all. And great, now I need to look at these axs upgrades. Yes I am aware of the 2022 models with it for not that much difference in price!
@@dizidoesdownhill also ride wrap was okay. I used the invis before and I liked it better. Ride wrap just proved to be a bit more unforgiving. I have a few bubbles and some edges that wouldn’t seat. Did not have that issue with the other brand. The problem was invis did not have access to an xl frame to scan for fitment.
There’s always something to tempt you to spend money…! I think I’ll wait until i wreck my current derailleur before I go the AXS route. Given the frequency of my rapid unplanned dismounts, it may be sooner rather than later….! And yeah its pretty neat and clean stowing the tool in the head tube.
Thanks for the feedback on the wrap. If I get a cold dull day with no projects to do, i might get around to that. That said, I’m looking to upgrade the NX drive train on my daughter’s Evo Comp Alloy so that may divert my attention for a little while!
Do you know the proper order and orientation for the bottom 3 headset pieces that go between the fork and the bottom of the frame? I'm trying to do it based on 2:53 but can't tell which way the bottom part faces. Thanks for the videos, it's hard to find guides for this bike.
Hey Sam - thanks for checking out the video. Are you referring to the upper headset cup and bearings that you can see in the video or the lower bearings at the bottom of the headtube?
What are you looking to get into Steve Skor? XC, regular trail riding or something more downhill biased? And I’m guessing it needs to pull Milo in his chariot?
@@dizidoesdownhill Thanks. I'm 6'1.2" (186 cm) tall and I have problem which size to choose S4 or S5. What would you recommend? My LBS doesn't have these sizes in stock. 😥
At 186cm you’re close to the top of the recommended range of the S4 and in the middle of the S5. I think you’d be happy with either but you should choose based on whether you want to size up for stability or size down for responsiveness. I’m definitely at the top end of the range for an S5 but it doesnt feel cramped. I like to be be a little more upright due to lower back and shoulder issues. You might like to be a little more stretched out.
Great looking bike 😊
Thanks brother! How is the weather down in Oz?!

It’s an amazing bike - you’ll have a blast! Just start slowly and have fun!
@@dizidoesdownhill i think "Start Slowly" is excellent advice.
