Nobody seems to have identified everything in the video, so here goes:
0:39. This is a Matchbox Scott Bernard from their Robotech line. Scott is the protagonist of Robotech: The New Generation, which is the last 25 episodes of Robotech. It's based on the anime Genesis Climber MOSPEDA, where his name is Stick. While the toy is of Scott wearing the armour that would let him use a Cyclone bike as a power suit, the bike scaled to him didn't transform. There was a separate toy of bike and rider which could. This Scott came with a gun and a helmet as accessories.
1:00 I'm not sure who made the blind-boxed PVC figures, though I do have a few. they're all Macross merch. From left to right, these are:
Hikaru Ichijyo's VF-1A from Do You Remember Love (the movie retelling of the Macross TV show) with FAST Packs in Battroid mode. Do You Remember Love was never used as part of Robotech, but was available in the US in the 80s (in a heavuly cut version) and the UK in the 90s (uncut) under the name Clash of the Bionoids. Hikaru was renamed Rick Hunter for Robotech
Millia Falyna Jenius' VF-1J from the TV show in GERWALK mode with FAST Packs. Milia became Miria Parino Sterling for Robotech.
    A Zentraedi Glaug Officer's Battlepod
Roy Fokker's VF-1S from Do You Remember Love in Battroid mode with FAST Packs (including the strike cannon in place of one back-mounted missile launcher). Roy kept his name in Robotech but they pronounced it more like Foh-ker so it didn't sound like "fucker"
The blue guy on the end is Max Jenius' VF-1J from the TV show in GERWALK mode with FAST Packs. He became Max Sterline in Robotech.
2:08 The fighter mode toy in between Roy and Max's figures is a Banpresto 1/100 scale VF-1 with FAST Packs transformed into fighter mode. There would have been spare heads in the box to let you turn it into a VF-1A (single head laser), VF-1J (2 head lasers) or VF-1S (4 head lasers). The black and red stripes and red skulls on the back FAST Packs are Hikaru's Do You Remember Love colours
2:23 This is an ARII 15th Anniversary VF-1D in GERWALK mode with FAST Packs. The VF-1D is the two-seat plane Hikaru/Rick flies in the first 2 episodes of Macross/Robotech, but it never appears with FAST Packs in the show.
3:20 You're correct that they're from the same line. The tan guy is a "cannon fodder" colour scheme 1/100 scale Banpresto VF-1. Like the other one, it would have come with some spare heads to let you switch between types. And yeah, they're flimsy as hell
3:52 "Dark Blue with yellow" is a YF-21 from Macross Plus. A 4-part OVA series, Macross Plus was released in the west in the 90s, with no relation to Robotech. I can't get a good look at it, but I suspect this is the second 1/72 scale version Yamato released of the toy, which has FAST Packs.
3:54 "Blue with gold" is a VF-19 from Macross 7. A 49-episode TV series, Macross 7 has never had an official western release. It's highly divisive amongst fans, being the most cartoony incarnation of the saga. That toy looks to be a bootleg based on the Bandai VF-19 toy that came out when Macross 7 was airing.
4:11 is a 1/72 scale YF-19 from Macross Plus, produced by Yamato. It was one of their first Macross toys, and while it was amazing for the time, they got much, much better at it.
4:38 are super-poseable Robotech Alpha Fighters from Toynami. These were the mechs the main characters piloted in Robotech: The New Generation/MOSPEDA (where they're called Legios). These are US-produced toys rather than the mostly Japanese stuff you've gone through so far. From left to right, they're the ones piloted by Rook Bartley, Scott Bernard, Rand, and then a Shadow Alpha on the end.
5:11 are a pair of Yamato 1/60 VF-1 toys. The Yellow with black stripe is Roy Fokker's VF-1S, and the red with black stripe is Hikaru's DYRL VF-1A. These are not the guys that came in the books, those are the Toynami Masterpiece line. You note there's an era after these which fixed the transform issues - this is correct. Shortly after these figures came out Yamato did larger 1/48 scale toys which didn't need to remove the legs, and then later again did 1/60 scale ones that improved on the 1/48s in many ways. Those last 1/60 scale figures are frequently reissued by Arcadia.
6.19 The blue and white guy is another ARII 15th anniversary figure, and it's a it of a mess in terms of colours. The head is a VF-1A, the body's colour scheme is Max's TV VF-1J, and it's got a Strike cannon on the back, which isn't in the TV show. The Roy VF-1S is a Toynami super-poseable, part of their short-lived DRYL line (they did Roy's 1S with a Strike cannon, and Hikari and Max's 1As)
6.36 as an aside, you asked here if this is Rick's Veritech/Valkyrie. And then later realise it's Roy's. In Robotech and Macross, Rick/Hikaru uses a VF-1S after Roy dies. In the TV show he flies Roy's specific fighter and keeps the paint scheme, in DYRL his VF has the same red and black stripes his 1A had. RE: Veritech vs Valkyrie. In Macross the planes that transform into robots are called Variable Fighters, with the initial version being the VF-1 Valkyrie. But the Valkyrie is so iconic that fans use the term to refer to any Variable Fighter, and this is reflected in the sequels with VFs often being called Valkyrie regardless of the actual model. In Robotech Variable Fighters are renamed Veritechs, and even though ancillary material confirms the VF-1 is also called the Valkyrie, in the show everyone calls them Veritechs for the most part. In the later parts of Robotech Veritech is still used, but more interchangeably. So the Hovertank in Robotech Masters is sometimes called a Veritech or Veritech Hovertank (background material says it's the VHT-1 Spartas), but the Logan and AJACS are only ever called by those names. And in The New Generation, Alphas and Betas are almost always called by those names.
6:54 Are indeed bootleg versions of the Takatoku/Bandai 1/55 VF-1
7:38 This is a Bandai 1/55 VF-1S Hikaru type from DYRL with FAST Packs. Based on the Takatoku mold, but they went out of business between Macross airing and DYRL being produced, their assets being bought up by Bandai.
8:12 The carded figures are all 80's Matchbox Robotech toys
8:20 is Basara's VF-19 from Macross 7, produced by Bandai. the "Blue with gold" VF-19 is a redeco of this toy. Basara was one of the three main characters in Macross 7, and one of the most contentious figures in the franchise. This toy might be a bootleg as well, it was reissued in the early 2000s and there were a lot of knockoffs of that release.
8:28 is, as the box will tell you a 1/72 Yamato YF-21. This one is definitely a first release, it has no FAST Packs
8:36 is all of the initial wave of Toynami 1/100 scale DYRL VF-1 toys. A few more bits of the only US-authorised DYRL merchandise. Toynami would reissue that mold many times in different colour schemes, both as Macross and Robotech characters. They also did accessory sets with FAST and Armoured packs.
Overall, that's a decent haul. A lot more Japanese original stuff in there than you might first think!

Robotech is a classic space soap opera and definitely worth going back and watching. As for what you were asking, the yellow veritech is Skull Leader. It belongs to Roy Fokker, but is then passed down to Rick. The Valkyrie is a series of Veritech fighters, and has the three modes: Battloid, Guardian and Fighter.

  • @eraturbo99999
    @eraturbo99999 Před 6 lety +16

The Valkyrie with the yellow & black markings at 6:23 is Roy's fighter from the Macross Movie "Do You Remember Love." The larger toy with the red & black markings is Rick's (Hikaru) aircraft, from the same movie. The first version of Jetfire was based on this larger toy but, the nose cone was changed to make rounder. The original nose cones came to a sharper point. Be careful with it if you decide to remove the armor parts. That toy is over 30 years old, and those parts are easily broken.
Don't know what you paid for it but, for a collector, that is still a great haul. Congrats!

Toy Galaxy the 3 larger figures in jet mode are NOT robotech.they are strictly macross as robotech ended before they came out in macross...the white one is a vf/yf -19,the blue looks like the vf-21 and the dark blue and yellow is the vf-22.

    • @VFclancy
      @VFclancy Před 4 lety +1

Actually the white one IS the YF 19 Alpha One Prototype from Macross plus (The same or similar design design would be later used for the VF-19A Excalubur Featured in the video game Macross VFX2 and eventually the VF-19 ADVANCE which makes a cameo in Macross Frontier the Wings of Goodbye) The Dark blue one is the YF-21 Omega One Prototype. (The VF-22 Sturmvogel from 7 while similar as a more open cockpit )The light blue one is actually a VF 19F/S Ecalubur from Macross 7 supposedly a simplified and space optimized variant of the VF-19, though Tim Christ's description below also also explains this just without variant numbers

starting from the top row top left..... VF-1s and VF-1a with strike armor packs(macross/Robotech), the taller ones VF-1a, VF-1s (Macross/Robotech), Next Hikaru Ichito's VF-1s from Macross Do you Remember Love, in the boxes. VF-1j's marketed as the japanese macross brand(could be considered robotech). the middle row Fighters starting on the left again, YF-21 Macross Plus, VF-19 Excalibur Macross 7, Yf-19 Macross Plus, (if those are the diecast they are worth $$) the Mars base bots are known in the robotech community as Alpha Fighters but are also known as Legioss in the Mosepeada series. the rest are smaller versions of what i just listed from Macross/Robotech. the important ones if you are looking for $$ value are the large ones, the transforming ones and the boxed ones. they seem to be in high demand as of late because most of the producers of any current lines are making crap quality.

The Valks with detachable leg tranformation are Yamato version 1 1/60 scale. The tan colored valk is from Macross plus, and it is a 1/72 Yamato YF-19. You got some KO valks there too, like the red fire valk. It is a very good KO though, I used to have it myself. This is definitely a mixed bag of goodies.

  • @wills2140

5:11 those are "version 1" Yamato toys, not the bookstyle Toynami Robotech Masterpiece Veritech ( the Macross name is Valkerie ). Some other commenters have mentioned it on here. Dan is correct that they were later improved, to a "version 2" later by Yamato. The mecha from Yamato's later half of the "version 2" run of toys ( or version 2.5, as seen in videos on yt by Scorched Earth Toys ) are among the best of Macross/Robotech toys at around the 1/60 scale ( version 1 and early version 2 toys still had some fragility issues, especially the shoulders and where the tailfins and backpack fold ( an issue for nearly all manufacturers of these toys, it's partly due to the way things have to be designed to transform. Arcadia took over from Yamato, made the exact same version 2.5 toys and raised prices a few years ago ). Thanks for sharing Dan! You definitely picked up some amazing pieces, from what would be a total dream haul for me! (:

in Robotech the mid transformation is called Guurdian while in Macross it was called. Robotic called the robot modes Battleloid and in Macross they were Battroid. Jet Modes were called Veritechs in Robotech and Valkyries in Macross. The Barttleloid with the yellow stripe and skull and crossbones is the Skull Leader Piloted by Roy Fokker in Robotech. The Action figure with the armour is Scott Bernard from Robotech the New Generation, his transforming motorcycle is called a cyclone in robotics. Robotic the new generation is taken from the anime Genesis Climber Mospeada which is one of the three anime that Harmony Gold needed to fit syndication rules of 65 episodes for tv. The Dark Bluish jet with yellow stripe is the YF-21 and the whitish beige with red and black strips is the YF-19 both feature prominently in the anime Macross Plus and have never been ported to Robotech. The Bright Blue jet in the middle could be the YF-11 but the YF-!! should have white striping and no goldfish hue on the boosters. the smaller figures upfront look like Gashapon prizes from coin-operated capsule machines. The two Battleloids that look the same but are in red and green are Alpha Fighters from Robotech the new Generation, they dock and combine with Beta Fighters to make a more powerful Veritech. The Blue Alpjafighter is piloted by Scott Bernard while the Green is piloted by Rand.I believe the Blue and white battled in the back to the right of skull leader is the veritech pioted by Max Sterling. The red Alpha Fighter is also from the new Genration of Robotech, piloted by Rook Bartley. The Grey-Black alpha fighter is known as the SHadowfighter which was used in Robotech the Shadow Chronicles Movie which bridged the gap between the ending of Robotech to the future. Yes Rick Hunter eventually was promoted and piloted the Skull Leader. Rick Hunters Veritech looks like the white one with Red and black striping on the torso but he started out in an orange beige one then was in a white with red striping. The bus in box is Max Sterlings and white with red in box is Rick Hunters. nice you have some of the Matchbox produced action figures. The red one in the box is the VF-19 which was the lead met in Macross 7. Yes Robotech is worth bingeing-all 85 episodes+the Sentinelss and the three movies they made.

Robotech and Macross is definitely worth it. You've got figures there from Robotech: The Macross Saga, and Macross Do You Remember Love. The way to tell the difference between the two is how pointed the nose of the jet is. The more pointed nose is Do You Remember Love, while the rounder one is the original television series. You've also got figures from Robotech: The New Generation aka Genesis Climber Mospeda. Then you've got figures from Macross Plus and Macross 7. Macross Plus is basically about the test pilots that flew the jets featured in Macross 7, but Macross Plus came out after Macross 7. I'm not a huge fan of Macross 7, honestly, but Macross Plus is absolutely worth checking out. If you watch Robotech, watch the Macross Saga and New Generation, the Masters Saga aka Southern Cross, kind of worth skipping.

Also, if you look into the history of Robotech/Macross, you'll find it's riddled with legal issues as complicated as the toys themselves. Probably the reason why it was once so unique and scarce. Toy Galaxy it might not hook you from episode 1. I liked it but I actually think around episode 7 it gets really good and then from there through episode 27 has some great themes and a lot going on with the characters. From there it becomes hit and miss again until episode 35 and 36 which finishes out Macross. The 1st season that adapted the Macross anime is by far the best of the 3 shows put together to make Robotech.

The two smaller transformable Valkyries are from Toynami. They are reasonably modern vintage, being produced within the past 10-12 years. They are an overpriced adult collectible line that is utterly crap. The large dark blue fighter and the matching blue and white one are from the animated movie Macross Plus. The teal and white guy on the right is interesting. He is a rarity. He is a Legios. Which comes from the show a Genesis Climber MOSPEADA, which forms the third chapter of Robotech. In Robotech it is known as an Alpha fighter. Your box might also have a “Tread” or Beta fighter that docks with it.

Great find, the fighter in the background with the fast pack is gold. That was the Jetfire toys that came over here. Good find. Yeah Jetfire was just a repack and recolour then due to Harmony Gold, Fasa, copyrights, trademarks and a shit ton of legalese Sky Fire was changed in the cartoon. I loved the Jetfire toy.
I really like the Green Alpha fighter. I had a big transforming one. I think it was Gakken kinda of a neat toy for a 10 year old in 1987.
I love the YF-19 (the beachmode one), go and watch Macross Plus. It's only 4 eps its a fantastic show....and Richard Fucking Epcar :)
The Maxamilian Jenius in box is a epic find.

Robotech has franchising similarities to transformers. They were remarketed Japanese toys combined into a single entity for foreign markets. Just like voltron. However robotech was focused on assimilating into a more refined singular story with multiple arcs. In addition, robotech kept most of it's life thru comics more than animation. The legs should not be popping off. The original transformers G1 skyfire with a different decals only. There are rare misstep Valkyries that happened to have both Autobot and macross logos on simultaneously. In addition, during the mid to late 90s, they were remanufactured for exosquad. The stories are great both independently and assimilated. One of my first animé, first toys, and among my first comics (along with my watchmen comics). Robotech as a whole has a beautiful history, and was far more elegantly rebranded than either transformers or voltron. In the end, all these listed franchises were inspired by gundam, the original master of robotic franchises.

  • @MrChristopoop

Dan, I think we are not too far off in age, just wondering how you missed this one in the early to mid eighties, especially having spent time in Japan. Robotech was awesome for its time, but essentially three different Japanese cartoons were compiled to to create one series in America. As a kid I would wonder what happened to the Macross characters as it seemed they just skipped over to the middle cartoon series (I did not care for that one much, but watched the whole run as they cycled through anyway,) and then would go to the third portion where those transforming motorcycles were found. Cartoon is a little bit of a soap opera, but animation is worth it, had a different feel than the 5 person combo teams of g force and Voltron.

Bandai held the rights to the Veritech fighter in the US, whereas Hasbro held the rights to it being able to transform, very confusing. The sad thing was the action figure sized Veritech was supposed to be able to transform which would have been the most amazing thing ever but thanks to Hasbro they had to retool it to just be a fighter, that killed it for me as a kid because I couldn't understand why it couldn't transform, all the molding was there. Sadly though it pushed Macross/Robotech out of my Christmas want lists. Also, I never have gotten a Skyfire who feels like the one from the show till this very day. Both companies could have capitalized on this so much such a shame.

Others did a handy job of summarizing Robotech. There are also wiki that can give out details. Robotech like Voltron aired in the mid-80's but toy products were few and far between for a number of distribution reason. A lot of the stuff on display is Japanese or imported.
The short short version of Robotech: Robotech is a space opera encompassing humans first interstellar conflicts with aliens.
Gen 1: Focuses on Rick Hunter, hot shot stunt pilot turned fighter pilot. His jet transforms. The giant space fortress, SDF-1, transforms. Even his sometimes girlfriend transforms though she changes from a whiny, insufferable teen brat to a whiny insufferable teen pop star who's music is the key to defeating the first wave of alien invaders, the Zentradei. (The giant dudes)
Gen 2: Focuses on Dana Sterling. The less said about her the better. She is captain of a squad of hover tanks (they also transform). Her squad finds itself on the front lines of every major conflict with the Robotech Masters. (Way to think of it the Zentradei are like the Roman Legion. The Robotech Masters are like the Roman ruling class) They want protoculture, the fuel the operates Robotech and Earth is the last place in the galaxy to have it. Stuff happens, the Robotech masters lose but not before another alien species, the Invid learn of Earth and protoculture.
Gen 3: Focuses on Scott Bernard. He's part of the space faring Robotech Expeditionary Force. They return to Earth to free it from the Invid and get routed in the first 15 minutes. Bernard survives this slaughter and picks up a ragtag band of misfits to fight the Invid. The Invid (the bug aliens) use protoculture to evolve and the ideal form is human shaped (naturally) so our freedom fighters have to fight and fall in love in equal measure with alien infiltrators and stop the conflict before it destroys the rest of the world.

I am really only familiar with Macross. The 3 jets that you have in diecast I believe are Bandai 1/55 scale. A royal blue VF-22, a brighter blue VF-19 and the sandy coloured VF-19. The 'Masterpiece' Valks look to me to be Yamato 1/60 v1 VF-1A and VF-1S. V1 had the legs detach for transformation. They then produced the 1/48 perfect transformation and brought the engineering into the v2 1/60 line (then Yamato folded and became Arcadia). The 1/60 v1 dont really go for much these days except to die-hard collectors who want them to fill in the chronological display. The Bandai 1/55 are still around on eBay and such but the Yamato 1/60 line replaced them in a lot of collectors hearts.

You have models from multiple different shows there. You have the "Robotech" show models, and then you have several iterations of Macross. Skip Robotech and watch macross with subtitles. The story was butchered when they made Robotech. Macross II is the only one I recommend watching in english as the story remains the same and the voice actors were better suited to their roles than the japanese voice actors.
Last piece of advice. The red and blue Valkyries that match are from a series called Macross 7. Don't bother watching Macross 7.
Edit: Macross 2 comes in two versions. a four episode version and a movie version. Watch the four episode version. The movie version cuts out an epic fight between the two pilots about halfway through, yet alludes to the fight having happened.

As far as the series- it really is the BEST writing exposed to the American market At The Time. But I imagine many of the main male characters would be cancelled by social media due to how they treat the females by today's standards. So on some cultural notes, the series doesn't age well.
