- My book - of the above title - is done, it is published, following 3 years' work. It has been something of a prison sentence, albeit one undertaken voluntarily. Sometimes it has seemed like solitary confinement - all my hopes have been pinned on a sudden break-through, which has failed to materialise: it has seemed disastrous. The parole board has denied me parole - again. I have abandoned all hope of its publication, only to have my hopes renewed, by some small encouragement. A fresh appeal, perhaps. But it is done. It is a sort of end and a new beginning. The great doors of the prison have opened upon the world and I blink in the sunlight of tomorrow. I look in the mirror and find myself a little older - my children are grown. The shed is listing, the garden neglected, and the weeds run rampant on the patio. I need a shave. But it is done: the curious ghosts who have watched me from Plunch Lane, wonder at my purpose still: why am I here? I am here to tell a story... The Murder of a woman one cold night in early February, in 1929...

Mark's sister here. An update: Mark has emailed Amazon.com several times about the "out of stock" situation and has done all he can to try to expedite its availability in the US. Mark has discovered there is someone in France selling the paperback on Amazon for £36.99. They advertise at a higher price then when they sell it, they buy at the regular price and ship it on, pocketing the difference (thank you @MrJones for explaining this) so they are attempting to make £26.98 profit on it. I feel quite disgusted by it.
Please don't encourage this extortion by paying a ridiculous amount of money for the book.

The French seller is selling the book "on spec"--they offer the book at a ridiculous price, and when an order comes in, they buy the book at the regular price and send it on for the elevated price. It happens on so many book listings that it's probably automated by bot.

Yes, Christmas 2020 was a bit of a let down. However, this hilarious episode, featuring some real "They got away with murder" suspects, was the redeeming highlight of the season.

After listening to this one, I let CZcams roll on through another one. Then another one. Then anoth--and I fell asleep. Several hours later, I woke up halfway through "The Suspicious Death of Mrs. Rosse." Had a lovely deep sleep, and no doubt several informative and meticulously researched dreams.

I put your stories on youtube via my roku tv, on sleep at night for an hour, and although I have watched, listened many times before, I can close my eyes and listen to your beautiful, calming voice, and I go to sleep soundly. So I’ve never been a fan of audiobooks having been a bookworm my entire life but your voice is something else 😅 and once your audiobook is ready I’ll be sure to purchase. So happy also to be able to support you practically. Having gone through a series of traumatic events in the last 2 years leading to me having to move out my family home for my own safety I found myself alone and utterly broken and frightened in a new place and I really struggled to keep my anxiety at bay long enough to relax and grab even a little sleep. And then I got recommended your channel and honestly the very first time I listened while in bed I did eventually sleep half decently for the first time in too long a while. Since then if I’m particularly agitated I’ll re-listen to an old video just for your voice. The fact that the tales are so meticulously researched and executed so entertainingly is just the incredible cherry on the cake! I was very curious about this book. When I received it , was so involving, I could not put it down. He, who writes in such a manner, is the most eloquent man, who turns his inspirations into remarkable art pieces, whether they be crafted with words or paint.
I really enjoyed this most interesting story of long ago not remembered murder incident. The story Mark John Maguire has chosen, is a good one with a good plot, with a dramatic appeal, he has its own unique style- to bring history to life, to figure out the best way to structure the story to make the biggest impact and keeps his readers guessing. He also has great observation skills to solve cases. He is a highly intellectual detective, who works hard in finding clues. He works on the principles of science, logic and psychology. He created a credible story, and it not only portrays murder, but also simple human issues. The research undertaken by him on the case, history, including old photos and, also, the post-trial life of the accused and their descendants are excellent. Besides being a great writer, he is a captivating artist. I loved when he conveyed the story using his talented , wonderful illustrations. Maguire's book is engaging, although the talent to do something can be innate in him, but his efforts make it successful. I am sure and also hope, Mark John Maguire's insights and optimism inspire him to persevere and continue his writer’s journey and to start another story.
I would highly recommend this book for those who are looking for true crime books and I am quite sure Mr. Maguire will stun readers with this superb book.

Do the Audible. I love reading books, but I’m binge watching your channel because I’m hopelessly addicted to the sound of your voice. It makes me feel the way I did when I was read to as a child. Except your bedtime stories are insanely titillating and I can’t get enough of them. I can’t be the only one who feels this way. They leave me feeling like “Tell me another story, Daddy!” So by all means, write the books. But I’d much rather hear them (and share them) than read them. I’ve been playing your CZcams vids at work and I’ve got my co-workers hooked on them too!

An engaging and thoroughly-researched book. Although it becomes clear "whodunnit" very early on, the book managed to keep this reader interested and absorbed to the end. In fact the final chapters contain much poignant detail. If you like the TGAWM channel I'd put money on you enjoying The Murder of Madame X. Well done MJM, the book deserves to sell well.

As soon as I saw this, I sent for the book. Although we live in Scotland, my wife is Swansea born and bred. I lived there for a few years back in the 1970s. As we have both children and grandchildren living in the area, we visit Limeslade 3 or 4 times a year. I find it fascinating that 2 mysterious murders were committed some 10 years apart in this rather genteel, quiet part of West Swansea. So looking forward to the book arriving. You present your material so well. Really loved the special Christmas edition!
I have now read the book, in one sitting - what a story! Unexpected twists and turns. A couple of observations. "Madame x" and her neighbour went to Mumbles cinema, apparently via Thistleboon - why? The natural way to go would be down Plunch Lane, past Bracelet Bay, the lifeboat station, and so into Mumbles. The other point concerns her husband, a strong suspect. He had served in the Army, his record indicating that he was 5 Ft 7 1/2 ins. tall, with a 32 inch chest. I doubt such a puny man would be allowed to serve today (I am ex-4th Welsh "Swansea Jacks", the same height as him, but measure 46 ins chest). Could such a weedy man beat up several people, including his wife's ex-husband? If so, what were men like back in 1929?
Thank you very much, Anthony - I too know Limeslade well, having lived in Mumbles as a student, close to the cinema Mrs Jackson and Olive Dimick visited that evening.
Thank you again, Anthony - these are interesting points, and I do not know why they took the Thistleboon Lane route rather than the Mumbles Road... However, other people from Limeslade also visited the cinema that night (Florence Jenkins and Mrs Morgan, for instance) and they also took the Thistleboon route. Others visiting Mumbles that evening for work or some other reason also appeared to favour the Thistleboon route - but those travelling by car, or even by bike, seemed to prefer the Mumbles road... Neither road was lit, it seems, so perhaps the Mumbles Road, through the Cutting etc, lacked pedestrian paths and was therefore dangerous... On your second point, Thomas filled out - I understand his maximum height (from police and prison records) was 5 feet 8 inches, but those who knew him attested to his great strength all his life. Even in his 80s, I am told, he was a strong man, always ready to lash out at someone who gave offence to him. The incident with Grant/Le Grys seems to have been mirrored by other incidents throughout his life. In later life he liked to play patience or do card tricks, and for this he cut a large piece of hardboard with a large circle in the middle, which he fitted about his waist(!), and used it as a kind of card table!
I'm hooked! Can't wait to read it for myself. 😊
